I've been bad about posting lately, but I had a bad cold and I've been working a lot so those are good excuses... right? Right? Anyway, I haven't been as good as I'd hoped to be but where I'm also working way more than I'd ever dreamed I would in September I'm feeling a little more freedom to spend which isn't really good because I won't get paid for most of it till October. But not as bad as spending money I'll never get... right? Right?

I also surpassed my substituting days that I really wanted to get this month and I still have tomorrow and another week left of that pay period. Go me : 5 days left! I have a baby shower to go to on Saturday, have to get a gift, but other than that I'm going to go for 4 more days of no spend.

Does anyone feel that they actually spend more doing this...almost like being on a diet, falling off the wagon, so you then realllllllyyyy fall off the wagon.

i haven't been updating because i actually lost track of how much we spent on seperate days.. but having taken a look at our bank account, i can see that we have spent an average of $26 a day for the past 10 days: that's on groceries, fuel for the car (dh's drive to work is 50 minutes each way) and few packets of chips, chocolate bars and a pizza yesterday + a $20 trip to the book store... so seriously, i have to say, we've done REALLY well. we would usually spend about $35 every day on food ALONE. if we continue with this pattern next month then we will spend about $800 on food and fuel combined instead of the budgeted $1200 for food and fuel (we live in a very high COL area, are GFDF and eat meat everyday).
i am sure i can bring it down a little more too, i just need to cut out the chips and chocolate and come up with a better meal plan. i am going to try and bring it down to a total of $700 for food and fuel the month.

friday 26 september:

no spend day! i have everything i need for dinner and lunch tomorrow! :

I won't be able to reach my no spend goal this month (grrr....) but I'm really hoping to have 4 more no spend days so I can get as close as possible.

This is the first time I have met the no-drive goal in over a year. Wahoo!!!

Part of that is that our brake light is on...we have to get the car repaired on Monday and I'm trying not to drive it much before then. It will be an expensive repair too so that is curbing my spending.

We only have four more days left in this month, Ladies! you can do it!!!!

I think I'm going to jump in and start getting ready for October. I know that I love shopping too much to ever do an actual no spend, but I really need to get a grip on what I spend. I need some accountability on what I'm spending and hopefully reporting here will help with that.

I'm Candy. Right now I'm a SAHM to 6 yo Matt and 1 yo Ethan. Matt is in the 1st grade. I'm waiting to hear about a job that I applied for. I really, really want this job. I love being home for my boys, but this is one of my dream jobs. We don't need the extra income, it would be entirely for "fun" things. But I think we're ready for a little fun. I really want to be able to take fun family vacations. Part of being able to do that will be saving money from my (hopeful) job so we can do that.

So, I'll start reporting today.

9/26 $4.20 Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (So worth it!!)

Candy, Mom to Matthew (5/02) and Ethan (10/07)

Trying for #3 starting 5/13

We are on a 45 day journey of being extremely frugal. We have decided to only spend on things we have already committed to. We have a few over 15 days left in the challenge. (http://www.45dayfinancialfast.blogspot.com/)

Sept 1 - Labor Day - We stayed in and did things around the house, it was really relaxing.

Sept 2 - Back to work, gave my notice that I was quitting :

Sept 3 - : $5.25 on "extra" food for my lunch

Sept 4 - Only groceries.

Sept 5 -

Sept 6 - : $4.19 Trade Joe's snack

Sept 7 - Yay for Sundays!

Sept 8 -

Sept 9 - DH asked me how we were doing with the budget, I love these days!

Sept 10 - Pre-emptive. We will all be home tonite so I think this should be a no spend.

Sept 11 - Yay! Plus DH worked some overtime and we received a refund so we had a small windfall.

**Today (12th) may not be a no spend. We need a few things for our trip. I have a gift card but I don't think it will cover everything but I am going to try!***

Sept 13 - Sept 26 - VACATION - I'm back ladies! We had a great vacation and a wonderful time together.

Sept 27 I am donating a bunch of stuff today which should keep me from shopping/spending.

*****

Total No Spend 9/25
: Total Overspend $9.44

= no unnecessary spending today.
= unnecessary spending today.
: = no-drive day.

September 1: But only a minor faux-pas. I forgot to pack snacks, caved, and bought a 99-cent box of Jelly Bellies!
2nd My, my! We're not off to a good start this month! DD was driving me CRAZY, and I had to get out tonight to work on a speech I'm writing, and only the expensive coffee shops were open. I ended up spending $4.71 at Starsucks.
3rd
4th $110.00 in groceries
5th
6th I'm not sure which face to put up. I needed bras. Did I need the good kind from Victoria's Secret at $132.00 for three of them?
7th $10.00 church collection
8th : Wrote big fat hairy check to mortgage company :
9th $7.00 for weekly lunch date, (feeds three of us!) and nearly $6.00 for a storage caddy for some household clutter.
10th $110 in necessary groceries, $40.00 in necessary gas, $3.00 on an unnecessary latte.
11th : Paid one bill.
12th
13th Sugar-crashed. No food. In car. Needed. Latte. Scone. Now!! $6.33.
14th : $25.00 donation to church building fund, another $25.00 for church raffle. I argue that charity is necessary, but I'm struggling with how to incorporate it into frugal living without seeming like a miserly monster.
15th 11.00 on sink patch kit (needed), and "caulk remover" (maybe I'll return that). 10.00 on a new potty seat for DD, who's about to start learning that fine art . . .
16th $8.00 on budgeted, weekly lunch date with family.
17th but : $20.00 on produce from the farm, $101.00 on groceries (I would have stayed within budget if I didn't live in one of those backward grocery tax states!), $28.00 on DHs meds, and $28.00 for some staining supplies. (Hey! I almost caved in to a $400 bid, so I'm doing pretty well to DIY on my back deck!)
18th
19th
20th $12.00 at Home Depot to sample a paint color. Don't hold your breath; I didn't like it. And then broke no-eat-out fast b/c DH and I forgot to eat before going out. $16.00 at Baja Fresh.
21st $10.00 to church collection.
22nd :
23rd Bought DD first-hand clothes, against my usual "rule." Total came to a little over $12.00. The good news is that I found a headband and tail for her Halloween costume at $3.50.
24th $120.00 in groceries
25th :
26th About 70 cents on library photocopies
27th $25.00 to charity

In God we trust; all others must show data. selectivevax.gifsurf.gifteapot2.GIFintactivist.gif

Goals:
15/20 No Spend Days
9/10 Let the Car Rest Days :

Bought new panties. Threw out the maternity panties. Technically I could have continued to use them, so I'm counting it as non-necessity. But I have to admit it was nice to throw them out and get regular-girl panties again.

I had to take my no-drive from yesterday back because it was raining last night so I drove to a Tupperware party. I didn't buy any Tupperware, which was a victory for me, but I always feel a bit guilty when I go to those parties and DON'T buy anything.

I was planning to buy, but I couldn't justify those Tupperware prices. Maybe at one point in time it was worth it to pay twice as much for that plasticky stuff, but nowadays you can get the same thing at half the cost in regular stores. I digress...

Good luck no-spenders!!! We only have a few days left to go.

Okay, I have had to many spend days, and I am so far behind in posting, so no detail here. The bad news is I have had to many spending/driving days this month.
The good news is I have spent about 30% less this month than in August, so :. I have been much more mindful in my spending this month, I have saved more with grocery shopping, and have shopped around for the best price on items.
We have eaten out (lunch) way to much though, so I still need work!
