We are changing churches today.

This is a big step for us.

We belong to a church in another town, but we are changing to a church in our own town so we can walk to church (and go to church with other friends in THIS community).

Whew! It is tough for me because I love our church, but I know in time we'll come to love this church too and I really do want to not spend money on parking and gas.

Not to mention that the friendships we develop with the people in our old church all mean we drive into that town for all visits, social calls, potlucks etc. It really does add up.

Tough choice but one I think we'll be happy with in the long run.

Yesterday I spent only $4.15 for unplanned on expenses.

I also spent $40 on gas.

So far today it's been a no spend day

I don't have time to total it up now, but I'll be back later...

9/1 - $71.75 cheesemaking supplies (not really necessary for survival, but replaces high cost store-bought dairy, so counting as extra expense). Stayed home all day and ate at home.

9/2 - Extra groceries $10 (OJ & cottage cheese b/c I was sick). Did eat all meals at home. Limited driving (grocery on way home from school.)

9/3 - NO SPEND, ate at home, and limited driving, too!

9/4 - : Budgeted spending on groceries. Had a meal plan, checked the ads for best prices, hit the Farmer's Market for fresh, unsprayed fruits and veggies! Didn't buy anything off the list and stayed waaay w/n my budget for the week!! All meals/snacks from home, too! Searched gasprices.com for cheapest gas along my route and saved almost $.20/gal.

9/5 - No spend, no eating out, no drive!

9/6 - No spend, no eating out... we ended up meeting at my sister's house for a cookout, so we managed to not spend or eat at a restaurant, while still visiting with my brother!

9/7 - No spend, no drive, no eating out!

Meeting my Goals:
4/18 No Spend
7/28 Eating at home
3/5 No drive days
2/15 no drive besides to/from school (and strictly along the way stops)

Hey - I want to know about these cheesmaking supplies. I already make my own yogurt, what do I need for cheese?

Today was very emotional, I got some bad news about my custody issue and I took some time to myself and ended up at Panera b/c I wanted to go there and I also needed to reach out to some online friends for help processing it and needed the wireless. I'm counting my lunch as an ok expense b/c I paid cash and I really needed to take care of myself for a bit.

But then, I stopped in at a clothing store. I bought a skirt and sweater for $15. They were on sale, but I don't need them and that's one of my things to work on - no clothing for anyone all month. They're still in the car tho, so I might take them back.

1. No spend, No drive
2. $1140 Rent (1/2 was mine), $311 daycare (both budgeted for)
3. $13 Boston Mkt (cash), $70 gas (both budgeted)
4. $3.80 Wendy's (gc) $16 market for fresh fruit and tofu
5. No spend! Yay! Well, $6 on MUCH NEEDED ice cream. Cash, so ok.
6. 17.99 on two purses from ebay. , 13 Super Fresh, 81 Trader Joe's.
7. 11 at Panera, cash so ok. But, then $15 on a skirt and sweater I didn't need.

Tally:
109/400 groceries
70 gas
33 on impulse purchases

Money Made:
2. $52 on ebay
3. Return to endless for shoes that fell apart, $31.95
5. Return shirt, $13

Acceptable Spending:
1. Oil Change
2. Dishwasher Soap
3. Keyboard to fix laptop so I can sell it.
4. Two more glass containers for kids' lunches ~$10
5. Postage to send pkgs. - DONE

Then tonight I had to go to Target for contact lens solution, cotton swabs, and cotton balls - paid cash for them out of the money I take out for incidentals. So far this paycheck, we're ahead.

I have officially gone 7 days without thrifting. Y'all, that must be a record. I feel awesome about it!

I got a $20 Amazon gift card yesterday, from a swap. I'm trying to decide what to spend it on...my wish list is long. Maybe I'll let it burn a hole in my pocket awhile. I know if I were truly frugal I'd save it for Christmas presents...

Rachael is right -- you CAN'T fail this challenge. It just goes on and on. Climb back up on here with us. We have ALL fallen off the wagon at some point or another. It is the act of getting back up on it that is WINNING. Climb back on. FIDO -- forget about it and drive on.

Besides, it is only Sept 8th. You still have 22 days to go in this month...you can't fail an entire month this early in the game.

Take them back. Clearly they were bought on impulse and it would be better to spend that $15 on something else...maybe another skirt and blouse but something that you LOVE.

Today I spent $8.34 at the grocery store for food.

So lets see. My total spending since 9/04 is (without taking into considering school expenses that were unreasonably high, but unavoidable and are now over and done with and I don't want to think about them anymore):

31.75 for food :
8.55 in lack of proper planning spending :

2/4 no spend days (4th and 7th)

I guess 2/4 no spend days isn't too bad...

We moved to a small town this summer -- I can walk for groceries, library, parks, post office, etc. But there is a greater variety of cheaper stores in the next town over... about a 5 min drive, which is closer than when I drove for groceries in the city we lived in, so it doesn't seem too far, but it's still driving. And it adds up when we run several short errands a week. I need to be more organized and just tough it out if I forget something.

I had such an amazing day today! I got called really early to work at a school where I haven't worked much before but it was just so great, one of those days why I remember why I chose to be a teacher Then I had to get a cab to tutor, an unfortunate expense, but she paid me for the whole month in advance so I can survive this month ::

09/01 -
09/02 -
09/03 -
09/04 - (half day substitute teaching)
09/05 - $16 on bus tickets. Necessary as I need to bus to schools for work but still broke my no-spending streak
09/06 -
09/07 -
09/08 - Taught and tutored but also spend $12 on a cab getting from work to tutoring. Paid for tutoring for the month!:

My Key
No spend -

Work -
Income -

Goals:

- Spend absolutely NOTHING until I get some income
- Get a full time job : And get some part time teaching work
- Pay off some of CC - Done
- Re-apply for interest relief on student loan Done

A couple of sublime days, from weather and activities to friends and family. DS' 2nd b-day party at the apple orchard was fantastic, and there was no charge for the private tent or private tractor ride; we just paid for kids' (25) apple picking. Today was a fantastic late season beach day with tons of friends; extended into a late evening adventure with the kiddos in a nearby harbor town, only : spending was a parking ticket (whoops!).
