First, a note on thrifting for Grandma's care package: in my family, thrifted stuff is not only expected but preferred. I came by my love of secondhand naturally, and a thrifted gift would NOT be looked down upon. That said, I went to the thrift store and Target to get everything I wanted, and kept things totally w/in budget. So now I am back on hiatus and feel good about my choices!

Sept 1:
Sept 2: $7 lunch
Sept 3: $29 shipping; $7 breakfast/coffee
Sept 4:
Sept 5: $16 shipping
Sept 6:
Sept 7:
Sept 8:
Sept 9: $11 Goodwill

9.1: $20 groceries, $60 gas
9.2: $54 groceries + plus paid many of our Sept bills online, $11 @ Dollar Store on coloring books/paper for girls... unnecessary since they have some already!

9.5: - $22 groceries (before coupons/store sales:65.68!!!)
9.6: - $97 groceries @ Costco, $54-gas, $20-clothes for girls
9.7: ...geez, only 2 no spend days this week. Must do better next week...there will be no need to do big grocery shopping next week.
I would LOVE to have 4 no spend days this next week!
9.8:
9.9: -groceries $16. Plus a sort of - but it was too good of a deal to pass up! Added DH to my gym membership. Paid first and last month dues for him today. $32.00. Not budgeted, but not totally unneccesary either! Will be added into our healthcare budget for next month...

Great! Dollar stores are a slippery slope, lol. It's so easy to go in for one or two things and end up spending $30.

9/1: $55 (approx) on groceries; $35 (approx) on medical supplies (we're all sick)
9/2: $18.90 groceries (for sick people); $15 milk for the week
9/3: $37.85 pharmacy
9/4: : $45 (approx) groceries
9/5: : no spend (finally!)
9/6: : $28 local fair
9/7: : no spend
9/8: $10 milk
9/9: : $4.14 apple juice and : jr mints
TTD: $248.89

Today would have been a no drive day, but my dh was sick at work and his boss sent him home. I picked him up in the city. But I walked to the corner store to get him juice instead of driving to the grocery store, where I would have bought a lot more "extras" than just a pack of jr mints, so that's good.

no spend
budgeted spending
: unnecessary spending
: no drive

We are on a 45 day journey of being extremely frugal. We have decided to only spend on things we have already committed to. We have a few over 15 days left in the challenge. (http://www.45dayfinancialfast.blogspot.com/)

Sept 1 - Labor Day - We stayed in and did things around the house, it was really relaxing.

Sept 2 - Back to work, gave my notice that I was quitting :

Sept 3 - : $5.25 on "extra" food for my lunch

Sept 4 - Only groceries.

Sept 5 -

Sept 6 - : $4.19 Trade Joe's snack

Sept 7 - Yay for Sundays!

Sept 8 -

Sept 9 - DH asked me how we were doing with the budget, I love these days!

Sept 10 - Pre-emptive. We will all be home tonite so I think this should be a no spend.

*****

Total No Spend 8/25
: Total Overspend $9.44

Ok. I have a question. I have a coupon for a free toothbrush that expires tomorrow. No one in our house needs a new toothbrush. Should I just skip it?

-I feel like I am getting it, just to get it because it is free. We don't "need" it.
-I could get it and donate it to a local shelter
-I could just skip it and try not to feel guilty for passing up a "free" item
-I could get it and keep it for the future or for a guest.

What would you do?

I know your feeling. Sometimes I get panicky as a coupon exp. dates comes and I haven't needed to use it. "What if I need it next week?" There will always be more coupons...

Anyways, if I had time, only if it was convenient, I would stop and get it. It's free. Someone will need a new toothbrush at some point. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it though - like spend extra gas $. I tend to buy ours at the Dollar store - sometimes 4/$1.

Yesterday I had to wait about 45 minutes for the bus at a mall. I was so tempted to get a coffee at the coffee shop just so I could sit down. My feet were really sore from standing all day in heels but then I thought about how good it would feel to put up another so I restrained myself. Also walked around the $ store without buying.

Df found out that getting the car fixed is going to cost double what he expected. There are quite a few money surprizes we've had to deal with lately that are starting to get very frustrating. Df is extremely worried we're going to lose the house if this keeps happening. Although I do feel better now I've been getting so much supply teaching work I really hope I get a full time teaching job soon so we can worry less. Send worky vibes my way please!

01/09 -
02/09 -
03/09 -
04/09 - (half day substitute teaching)
05/09 - $16 on bus tickets. Necessary as I need to bus to schools for work but still broke my no-spending streak
06/09 -
07/09 -
08/09 - Taught and tutored but also spend $12 on a cab getting from work to tutoring. Paid for tutoring for the month!:
09/09 -
10/09 -

My Key
No spend -
Spend -
Work -
Income -

Goals:

- Spend absolutely NOTHING until I get some income
- Get a full time job : And get some part time teaching work
- Pay off some of CC - Done
- Re-apply for interest relief on student loan Done

We get paid tomorrow and we have money left and have stuck to our budget! I keep a certain amount out for incidentals, and I had enough left over that I was able to buy a few maternity items. I got four pairs of pants for $15. I'm feeling really good about the last two weeks. Now, I need to make a menu for the next week, so I can grocery shop tomorrow and keep staying on budget! :

9/1 - $71.75 cheesemaking supplies (not really necessary for survival, but replaces high cost store-bought dairy, so counting as extra expense). Stayed home all day and ate at home.

9/2 - Extra groceries $10 (OJ & cottage cheese b/c I was sick). Did eat all meals at home. Limited driving (grocery on way home from school.)

9/3 - NO SPEND, ate at home, and limited driving, too!

9/4 - : Budgeted spending on groceries. Had a meal plan, checked the ads for best prices, hit the Farmer's Market for fresh, unsprayed fruits and veggies! Didn't buy anything off the list and stayed waaay w/n my budget for the week!! All meals/snacks from home, too! Searched gasprices.com for cheapest gas along my route and saved almost $.20/gal.

9/5 - No spend, no eating out, no drive!

9/6 - No spend, no eating out... we ended up meeting at my sister's house for a cookout, so we managed to not spend or eat at a restaurant, while still visiting with my brother!

9/7 - No spend, no drive, no eating out!

9/8 - No spend, ate at home! (well, we did have a peds appt. today, but that was paid by Dh's prepaid health card, so I'm not counting it, since it didn't come out of "our" money)

9/9 - No spend, ate at home!

9/10 - : Normal budgeted groceries, plus a few household needs (dishwasher detergent and rubber gloves). Largely stuck to my mealplan list and came in under budget. Spent $5 extra on wensleydale w/ cranberries which is a special treat for me. and I broke down and bought pregnancy tests. (Wahoo I'm not pregnant!!!) Did eat all meals at home and it would've been a great day to eat out... had a dentist's appt. and had to run all over trying to arrange babysitting!

Meeting my Goals:
6/18 No Spend
10/28 Eating at home
3/5 No drive days
2/15 no drive besides to/from school (and strictly along the way stops)

9/9: $6.50 for support hose & $10 for Dr visit
9/10: $53 for meds and vitamins
