Pretty cool, but not particularly accurate for my area. In NC it said only "apples, peanuts, and sweet potatoes". They left out all the greens that are at area farmer's markets this time of year as well as many other goodies. Here's what just one single farmer was bringing to our local market yesterday (Jan 2): "carrots, radishes, japanese turnips, bulls blood beets, tatsoi, baby bok choy, kale and collard greens, spinach, sorrel, parsley, Brussels sprouts, green and red heads of cabbage, beauregard sweet potatoes". I don't know that we see any apples this time of year. Not sure why that was on the map except there are some good keepers. Apple season is really a little bit of August, most of September, a bit of October and sometimes there are some early June apples. It's not really peanut time of year, either. It really is collard time of year throughout the South. The map has it listed for Alabama and Mississippi, but everywhere in the South you'll see collards and other winter greens this time of year. Poor Tennessee and Virginia got left out of the map completely! They said they're dormant!

Cool idea, but not enough info on it. For really finding out what's in season I recommend going to your local farmer's market weekly!

It makes me miss living in California. They have so much more than Washington right now.

That is pretty neat. I can't wait for spring when mine doesn't say "dormant" though

This image is along the same lines and also a neat idea...

I love Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, too. Although she doesn't have seasonal map on her website she does have tons of info about eating seasonally and locally.

Also this one about local foods and distance:
