When meal planning, do you have a list of main courses to choose from? My husband & I just made one the other day, and it was very helpful this week as I made my meal plan. I can see this making things much easier for me from now on. I would like to keep adding to the list, so I was hoping others have a list like ours & can share. Here's ours:

stuffed bell peppers
sloppy joes
chicken spaghetti
chicken & dumplings
baked or pan-fried chicken (on its own or for sandwiches)
hamburger steaks
taco soup
bean soup
chicken tortilla soup
white chili
vegetable soup (with or without hamburger)
breakfast burritos
taco salad
baked ziti
chicken fettucini alfredo
crawfish fettucini alfredo
shrimp fettucini alfredo
cheesy bacon chicken (on its own or for sandwiches)
crawfish etouffee
chicken & sausage jambalaya
black-eyed pea jambalaya
Mexican casserole
hamburger/potato/onion hash
chicken & rice casserole
pot roast
venison (fried, roast, etc.)
chili dogs
breakfast for supper
English muffin pizzas
crockpot tacos
Italian chicken pasta
tilapia foil packets (lemon pepper or parmesan)
red beans & rice
grilled pork chops
grilled pork loin
drunk chicken
kabobs (steak, chicken, shrimp, veggies)
homemade chicken tenders
fried or baked catfish/white perch
grilled shrimp
Natchitoches meat pies

That's all I've got so far. Any additions are welcome!

fried chicken
grilled chicken
chicken strips/nuggets
chicken noodle soup
monterrey chicken
sweet & sour chicken
chicken casserole

finger steaks
chili burgers
taco salad
taco soup
chicken fried steak

pork chops
ham steak
sausage hashbrown casserole
sausage rice casserole
sausage patties

fish (usually trout, but whatever we have)
tomato soup

clam chowder
chili dogs
penne in vodka sauce

I'm sure there's more and these are just main dishes, not sides.

I don't have one, but it's a great idea. I was reading along your list, and thinking that it all sounds so good. Y'all eat many of the same things we do.

I used to, now I just go search on my blog LOL . I will have to try to get a list together and post, it would probably be easier to navigate and meal plan from than the blog is.

I acutally don't have a 'master list' although thats a good idea... I just have a spreadsheet w/ the days of the week and what we had for dinner and what I'm planning for the next week or two... I color code them so I know basicly what it was (chicken, fish, beef, venison, goat, lamb, vegetarian, pork, turkey, leftovers, pizzza...)

That's a really good idea.

Do you guys add to your list or do you stick with tried and true favorites?

DH (the adventurous cook in the house) is always coming up with new yummy entrees, so I think we'll add things from time to time. I try new recipes every now & then and will add anything we like.

I don't have a list, I keep my meals in a 3 ring binder. I put the receipe in sheet protector. When we meal plan, we sit down with the binder and take out the meals we want to make for the week. After the week is over, those meals go into the back of the binder so we don't repeat too often.

I used to work from a list but it was hard for me to feel inspired when looking at a list. Now I write all the meals I make on index cards, and then look through them. I like seeing them one at a time instead of in a list, it helps me recall the flavors instead of just seeing a sea of words, if that makes sense.

I have a binder, too, with copies of my "greatest hits" recipes. On the index cards, I write if the recipe is in the binder, or online, or what cookbook it's in.

I page through the index cards to see what I want to make that week. Then after I use the cards for my grocery list, I magnet them to the fridge. That way I can look through them again to see what sounds good to make tonight. I put them in order of what produce will go bad the top card might be something with fresh produce, and the bottom cards use frozen produce.

This is my old list from a few years ago...I'm vegan and mostly grain free now so I don't eat a lot of this anymore though.

Potato leek soup
Tomato gniocchi soup
Tortilla soup
Miso soup
Lentil curry
Winter warmer soup
Corn chowder
Roasted yellow pepper soup

Rice Meals:
Fried rice (veggie or pineapple)
Thai red curry
Chinese green beans stir fry
Sushi rolls
Rice and beans
Baked orange tofu with broccoli and rice
Moroccan tangine couscous
Kazakh plov
Broccoli and parmesean risotto

Pasta Meals:
Pad thai
Stir fry with noodles (peanut sauce, rice vinegar soy sauce, orange soy sauce)
Pesto pasta with green veggies
Broccoli alfredo casserole
Spaghetti with bean balls
Vietnamese spring rolls
Pad see ew

Chick pea salad sandwiches
Grilled cheese with tomatoes
Swiss, tomato, and dill sandwiches
Spicy corn quesadillas with mockamole
Chile cornmeal crusted tofu pitas
Maple pesto paninis with fresh mozzarella and tomato
Roasted veggie wraps
