Yum! ^^^^ I've been craving bbq ribs for weeks. Might have to make it happen.

Tonight was baked potatoes with all the toppings, and steamed broccoli

Well, yesterday was screwed up. Some of us - cough cough - fell asleep in the afternoon. By the time I needed to make dinner, I just threw some stuff together: frozen fries, stir-fried bok choy, cucumber salad, and DH had leftover chili.

Tonight the wraps with buffalo chickpeas and whatever veggies I can scrounge up. Will probably make some rice, too.

Anyone else on a food budget these days? It's been working so far, but I have had to retrain myself not to just run out and get a few things. The cold weather and snow is helping with that! I am keeping a list on the fridge. New budget week resets tomorrow, whew. I'll go to TJ's and make the pizza tomorrow.

Oops, nope! Maybe pizza this weekend. DH just brought home tamales from his tamale guy, so we'll have those tomorrow.

I'm trying to reign ours back in. I reviewed our discretionary spending for last month and was shocked. We need to be smarter with our money, so I'm buckling down again. Though I do confess it's a tiny bit nice that we have the money, after years and years of struggling. But it's not a sound financial strategy!

Husband made soup at my request, as Little Man is sick and I've got the beginnings of it. And it used up some veg in the fridge - potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, celery and mushrooms, Plus a diced ham steak or a little flavor.

We were getting careless, and it's one of the few discretionary spending categories, so I'm cutting back. Also I'm not sure where my income is going right now. I freelance and invoice a lot of euros, but the exchange rate is way down right now due to the strong dollar, so I'm effectively doing the same work and getting a lot less for it On the plus side, we're been eating mostly vegetarian, so that keeps things in check.

Yes I budget $600 a month/$300 every two weeks. that includes diapers for two kids, toiletries etc. I make an occasional pickup in between, but with the baby here I haven't been too much!

That's about what we end up spending, too, for anything that one can buy at the grocery store. I keep feeling like it should be under $100 a week like my mom did, but I think I have to accept that's just unreasonable.

That is my goal minus toiletries, but we're not there yet.

Same here! Under $400 for the month, including toiletries and household items is always my goal, but it's hard to get there. Even with coupons and clearance and sale shopping.

Tonight husband made chicken and rice soup. Still sick!

When you guys are mentioning under $100/wk. and $400/mo. - for how many people? I have two adults, a middle schooler, and a high schooler, and I'm not hitting $600 yet.

I'm feeding 4 right now (until baby is older) on $600 a month like I said that includes toiletries and diapers for two kids and I feel like this is just enough. If I didn't have toiletries and diapers included in this I probably could do it for $400 a month. I spend about $70 a month in diapers alone. I decided I'm going back to a regular coffe pit and getting rid if the keurig. Those k ups add up. I also would like to do some more vegetarian meals.

That's why ours is so bad. We've got 2 adults and a toddler!

Some kind of soup on the menu tonight - probably potato.

Mmmmm! on both counts!

Went shopping yesterday and bill was in the neighborhood of $160. I think it's plenty for the week. And, wow, Aldi had some great stuff - fingerling potatoes, herbed goat cheese, coconut milk, etc.

Meal plan for the week:

* Roasted potato bowls (we topped the roasted fingerling potatoes with black beans, salsa, etc.)
* Vegetarian pho soup and edamame
* Vegetarian lo mein (might change this to something with rice and tofu) and frozen dumplings
* Vegetable and goat cheese pasta bake
* Tamales (alternative for DD2: black bean tacos)

Tonight probably the tamales so those don't go bad. We have more in the freezer for later.

I love aldi
We had leftovers tonight and kids had Annie's man cheese. Kids are aicj with influenza and they don't have big appetites. Praying the baby doesn't get it as he's only 7 weeks.

Is it just me or does everyone have the flu right now!?

We're mostly on the upswing from it at our house. Cincinnati chili tonight to celebrate our return to real food.

Yesterday for Valentine's day we splurged on NY strip steaks from our local butcher. We made baked potatoes and steamed broccoli on the side. LM vehemently refused all of the above and elected to have cinnamon oatmeal, yogurt and applesauce.

Husband is working, so LM and I will be having clean out the fridge leftovers - the rest of my Valentine's dinner (the steaks were huge!) and LM will get macaroni and cheese, plus whatever kind of fruit he wants. And we'll have a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. :-)

Tonight is kale, sausage and potato soup, tomorrow corned beef with mashed rutabaga and saut?ed red cabbage. That's all I've got for the week so far. Darned snowstorms keep messing with my meal plans.
