(I've never tried this recipe, can't vouch for it)

ok, let me see if i remember the story...

the word for persimmon is kaki, ok?

Torangi (tiger) was hungry one night and decided to go down from the mountain into the village and find something to eat. He smelled a nice fat ox and thought that would just hit the spot. So he started prowling past the farmer's house to get to the ox when he heard a baby crying.

"What a horrible sound," he thought. : "I wish the mother would get that baby to shut up."

The baby's mother was trying desperately to get the baby to quiet down; she had been singing and soothing and jiggling and joggling and trying everything she could think of but the baby kept crying. Torangi heard the mother saying "ssh ssh please don't cry, please stop."

"Please stop crying," she said, "or else you'll wake Iri (the wolf) and he will come and eat us!" But the baby kept crying.

"Iri," scoffed Torangi, "what a joke. Who could be scared of that mutt?" Then he heard the mother pleading with the baby again...

"Please stop crying," she said, "or you'll wake Kom (the bear) and he will come and eat us!" But the baby kept crying.

"Kom," laughed Torangi, "give me a break! No one is scared of that flea-bitten rug." Then he heard the mother's voice again...

"Please stop crying," she said, "or you will wake Torangi! He'll jump through this window and eat us!"

"That's more like it," thought Torangi, "that'll shut the little brat up for sure."

But that baby kept crying!

"Please stop crying," she said, "look, here is a Kaki!"

and the baby stopped crying!

Well, Torangi froze in his tracks. "What on earth is this Kaki," he wondered? "A creature more fearsome than Iri, more frightening than Kom, more terrible than Torangi himself? What kind of monster could it be?" Torangi stood in the shadow of the farmhouse trembling. "The Kaki must be nearby," he thought, "I need to get out of here!"

He started to tiptoe away, as quietly as a cat can, which is very quiet as you know. He was so quiet, in fact, that the robber didn't hear him - the robber who had been creeping past the very same farmhouse to go after the very same ox. And Torangi was so preoccupied looking every which way for the awful Kaki, that he didn't see the robber. So he tiptoed right up against the robber ... *bump*

The robber saw Torangi and screamed! :

Torangi heard the scream and leapt into the air! :

The leap threw the robber into the air and he fell on top of Torangi's back. Terrified, he grabbed onto his fur and hung on... he didn't know what else to do!

"The Kaki has caught me!," Torangi thought. "He is on my back, his claws are digging into my flesh! He will kill and eat me for sure!" In a panic, Torangi tore off into the night, with the screaming robber hanging to his fur on for dear life.

Torangi ran and ran and ran and the robber screamed and screamed and screamed until finally, deep in the forest, the robber grabbed hold of a low branch and swung up into a tree, into safety, away from Torangi.

Feeling that the creature had finally left his back, Torangi finally stopped running. Licking his fur, he thanked the spirits that he was able to escape with his life. He was a lot more careful in the village after that. And that is how a piece of fruit terrorized the fearsome tiger.

And the robber stayed away from the farmhouse.

And the ox stayed in his happy home.

And the mother and the baby got some sleep.
