You just slice however many strawberries as you need, one plastic containerish. Or 2 cups hulled. I mash half and leave the other half sliced. Then pour about 1 cup sugar over them. Just let them sit and they will get syrupy on their own.

mama to DS1 10/04 and DS2 9/07 and brand new DS3 5/29!

I usually bake a boxed angelfood cake! For the strawberries, slice them up a whole container, I really like to use fresh for shortcake & I sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar, cover & refridgerate for severals hours. Yumm I want to come to your house tonight!

We always just put sliced strawberrys on angle cake with whipped cream. No need to do any mashing, lol.

Mama of three.

My mom makes the best strawberry shortcake. It's how I grew up eating it and I was so surprised the first time someone made it with angel food cake. We use really big biscuits. Take some berries and add a bit of honey or sugar and let them sit on the counter for a while, so they make their own juice topping. Then you cut the biscuits in half when they are cool and you turn them cut side up. Put some berries in the bottom, then a biscuit, then some berries with juice so the biscuit has something to soak up, then some real whipped cream (NOT FROM THE CAN), then a biscuits and strawberries and whipped cream!

And, when you eat this, you must eat it for dinner and eat nothing else.

We used to do the biscuit thing too...but we layered sugary strawberries, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream between them! And it WAS dinner-lol! I was going to make this today for dd's birthday. Of course I have to make GF biscuits and dairy free ice cream...not the same thing at all. Ah, well.

I use my fav scone recipe for the shortcake part of my strawberry shortcake. I just cut them in half and fill with some of the strawberries. Then I ladle some more strawberries over the top and top it all off with some fresh whipped cream. For the strawberry mix, I just mix a little sugar with them after slicing and let sit for a while so they can release some of their juices. I also like to mix some blueberries with my strawberries for some extra color and flavor.
