Hey there I started meal planning a week ago, this is my second week. Today I got an idea to keep a record of what I make weekly and so I can mix things up and keep track of what worked and what didn't. I also am planning to add a new menu item weekly, so that I can always have something new to cook. Does anyone else do this? If so do you also have prices of items in a book or the same book. I am trying to streamline shopping, cooking etc...And budget at the same time. Any ideas would be great. TIA

I've been doing meal planning for about 2 years now. I find it much easier to keep a master list of meals that I cook in my home binder. That way I just look at it when I'm doing my planning. I also search for new recipes each week online, in cookbooks, through friends, etc. I'm on a cash envelope budget system for groceries, so I have to be very mindful of costs as well. Since I do all the shopping each week, I have a pretty good idea of what things cost in my head. I've been thinking of keeping a price list, but haven't started yet.

When I look at the sales ads, I go to my meal list and try to choose to make meals with things that are on sale. A lot of times I will stock up on things we use quite often, such as meat when it is on sale. This helps a lot with the budget side of meal planning.

Anyway, hope this helps! Keep at it, you'll see you spend a lot less when meal planning and it makes "what's for dinner?" a whole lot easier!

Yes I keep a record of what we eat on my food blog, that is mainly what it is for. I have just started to do a price book, so we will see how that goes.

I've started doing this too, and I find it hugely helpful. (My list isn't very long yet, though, so it's just a Word Document list!)

Well I got a notebook and started writing my weeks down, I have been a major sale shopper since DD's birth because of my being a sahm and no longer having my income. I am really liking the meal planning thing, I'm only doing a weekly one. My DH likes to get in on the process so he knows what we'll be having and have input. So far it is working very well. I am keeping track of my receipts for food. This month we spent a little more than average, but there have been a couple of bigger buys that could not be passed up, so I stocked up. Thanks.

Yes. Every recipe I've tried that we like goes on a list sorted by what meat is in it. I try not to do the same meat more than one night in a row so that's why I have it like that.
