How do you label food that you're putting in the freezer? I normally store food in freezer bags, but the inexpensive brand I buy doesn't have a section for labelling. what do you do?

I'd just write on the bag with a black permanent marker, I do this when I package up my burger into smaller packages and only use plastic wrap. Works for me.

I use avery labels and write in permanent on them. I actually recently started wrapping things in butcher paper, and just writing in permanent marker on the package.

Until recently, I've always used vaccum seal freezer bags. This is highly annoying to me to use not to mention the bags get expensive and time consuming.

I bought a giant roll at Costco, and I notice that if I wrap something in plastic wrap or whatever container, and then in butcher paper it keeps out freezer burn just fine for several months.

Not to mention I use it also to tape up my walls for the kids to color on

I also write directly on the bag with a Sharpie.

If I'm storing food in more permanant containers, I tape a piece of scrap paper onto the container with the food details.

This sounds great, thanks for the suggestion. Have you ever tried wrapping the food in waxed paper and then butcher paper instead of using plastic wrap?

write on the bag with perm marker, or write on a piece of masking tape and stick that to the freezer paper/bag.

for some reason a perm marker won't write on a cold bag... and the feeling of writing on butcher paper with a marker skeeves me out (like nails on a chalk board)
