Hi!
I would love to hear some new meal ideas for eating away from home. We'll be staying in a hotel for a few days and visiting 2 amusement parks. I need to feed 6 and it needs to be able to pack easily in an ice chest. I won't have access to a microwave so cold foods are best (though I will use the coffee pot in the room to heat up water for oatmeal, soup, etc)

What are your best tips for feeding your family while on a vacation?
We love to travel but I need some new food ideas

TIA

Well - we only go camping or to a beach house (with a full kitchen) - so our vacations are different...but for a hotel vacation with little cooking options I would do the following:

PB and J
Bagels and cream cheese
Wraps (can carry chopped veges like peppers etc and wraps for vegetarian or lunch meat for meat wraps).---would simplify with just mayo or mustard or dressing (whatever everyone will eat - so you don't have to bring all!).
Maybe pre-cook and serve cold the first night - fried chicken/potato salad
Could also pre-make chicken salad for the wraps or serve with tortilla chips.

I might also consider hitting a grocery store for hot foods one night or having a really yummy big breakfast out one morning (like a breakfast bar spot). Good place to fill up before a fun-filled day!

Have a great time!

We do a lot of cold cuts, and sunflower seed and butter. We also like to bring a ten dollar toaster with us and have toast, bagels, or english muffins with sunflower seed butter or cream cheese and jam for breakfast. Though we DO also do oatmeal often, as well.

We will also check out whether there is a microwave available in the lobby, and if there is, we will precook noodles (which can be warmed by running them under hot water), and then heat the sauce up in the lobby nuker.

We do also make pasta salad for picnics. We use LOTS of fruits and veggies, as well...sliced, diced, and ready to go! Too, we keep dried fruit, crackers, and cheese on hand...and we tend to carry large quantities of water along with us.

Mama to two awesome kids. Wife to a wonderful, attached, loving husband. I love my job-- I'm a Midwife, Doula and Childbirth Educator, Classes forming now!
