Ok, this is just to share and probably totally useless to everyone, but I had an exhausting day with my toddler today and by the time DH got home and took over (me crying over the dinner I was making was a good indicator of my day), and dinner was eaten, I was ready to do something just for me.

My house is in CHAOS right now. I am decluttering a lot and preparing for a garage sale, but in spite of having less things it is pretty much a disaster with very little in it's place & every surface covered in stuff. We are doing some home renos, and building new storage areas, but in the meantime things are pretty chaotic.

So to get back on track... once I had some time to myself, instead of crashing in my chair with the computer or book in my lap like I usually do after a rough day, (or throwing everything we owned out onto the curb for other people to deal with, which was tempting!) I ran around the bedroom like a whirlwind and loaded up my "give away", "throw away", "put away" boxes. My loose clothes that were scattered around the room (not counting 1 clean bin) are all put away, all surfaces are cleared off and wiped down for the first time in months, and I could actually take a deeeeep breath. It was lovely! Now I can sit down, read my favorite new blog (zen habits) and feel good about the clean surfaces in my bedroom. :

Tomorrow I'll have to empty those bins so I can start again...

Apparently having a few clean surfaces and one nice room was all the inspiration needed to catch the organize/declutter bug! I've flown through my house the past couple of days, reorganizing bookshelves, clearing off surfaces, throwing things out and filling up "sell" bins. I think I just needed to see how nice an organized less cluttered area could be in order to see how much I didn't like the rest of the house! It's been so easy to keep the clear surfaces empty, and put anything away that lands on them, since there is extra space after decluttering. I have a long ways to go but every day am seeing a huge difference.
