we have a detached old two car garage behind our house (a 50s ranch) and we've recently decided to sell and move out of the city to a more country area. anyway, my husband has been stacking that garage full of "stuff" for the last five years and it's gotten to the point where i don't even go in there anymore because it stresses me out (you can't walk across it anymore due to all the stacked up stuff). he comes by it honestly - his grandmother is a major pack rat who saves things "just in case", and he likes to, too (and then lord it over me when once a year a 30 cent item he's squirreled away can actually be used
he started cleaning it out yesterday. he's got HUGE stacks of stuff to donate! he's agreed to renting a trailer next weekend to take loads to the donation site and also the dump. he's asked his mom to come watch the kids next weekend so we can really finish this off. i'm so proud of him! this is a huge deal for him
in return, i'm going to go through my baby bins in the attic and pare down on all that stuff i've been saving "in case".
i am really looking forward to not being pinned down by all these material possessions that we never bought (inherited from various family members who have moved or cleaned out) and never use.
i just had to share my exciting news - i've been wanting this for YEARS!
