I want to give a housewarming gift to a couple we know who are about to move into their first home.

Their current apartment is not cluttered - they're pretty great about not having clutter. I don't want to add to it. I asked and they said they don't need anything.

I sometimes like to give a nice, plain pillar candle as a housewarming gift, but I have never seen a candle in their current apt, so I am guessing they don't use them.

They are both away a lot for work. So, no plants or pets.

I can't afford a restaurant or grocery GC. They are staying within the same neighborhood.

What can I give them that is tasteful, frugal, and not clutter?

A meal that they can enjoy in their new home - inexpensive, thoughtful, and doesn't clutter.

I always appreciate practical things--maybe a pair of potholders in the color of their new kitchen (old ones do wear out), or I really like the ideas of consumable things like the wine or the meal. Perhaps a gift certificate for a free movie from the local rental place? We did that for wedding gifts one summer--gave Blockbuster GCs plus some microwave popcorn...a "date night in" kind of thing...we had a little budget but it worked.

Maybe some new towels? either 'winter' theme hand towel sized for the kitchen or bath or just basic colored for the kitchen. I can never have too many kitchen towels.

A bottle of wine or a nice bottle of olive oil. Maybe in a new home they plan to cook more?

If they are moving somewhere with outdoor space how about a plant or two. Here it's the right time of year to be potting spring bulbs or a pot of herbs would be nice.
