Ugh.. Don't know where DH put the rest of the cars and trucks we got from the thrift shop today.. I know he put them somewhere DS can't see them which is good, but it means I can't count them till he wake from his pre-New years Eve party nap..lol.. unfortunately my shopping total for today.. (not counting the items I am excluding since they were replacements for damaged items) is 12 so far!! that means at an extra 5 items for every 1 items brought in, I need to declutter an extra 60 items this week!!! <grimace> Thank God groceries aren't included!! lol

One major exception I'm also giving myself is some time in January I will HOPEFULLY be getting together with one of my friends to get more hand me down clothes for my son and for a friend of ours as well.. this will be several sizes worth of clothes and once my son has out grown it we will be passing it on to our friend's son who is almost exactly a year younger than our son.. So I know what comes in will be going out.. we've also been able to let other people borrow the clothes at other times, so it's been an ongoing cycle of blessing..

Off to try to do a little bit of decluttering before we leave for tonight's party!

Not a bad idea... I told DH, we were going to keep some of the extra vehicles for rainy day surprises (when DS gets antsy from being inside too long and on my nerves) or for our diaper/restaurant bag, as something he only gets to see/ play with when we are out at others homes or out to eat, or waiting in Drs offices ... to help keep entertained..

So I did not do any decluttering last night. But tonight will be a better night. I am sure of it.

That is the quote of the the day folks. When riding the decluttering horse, if you fall off you get right back in the saddle. One day missed doesn't mean failure. That just means that tomorrow is a new chance. Happy decluttering folks. We are starting the New Year off on the right foot,or might I say the right saddle.

Continuing my list from the other day...took a mini vacation from decluttering:
145-155 miscellaneous mismatched kids toys from toy shelf, treasure drawers and play kitchen area.

I'm done!
I'm starting a new decluttering challenge for myself on New Year's Day. I may just stick with the 5 a day rule for the entire 2010 year.

Yesterday we shampooed the carpet, then got the brilliant idea to have a party last night. So I spent the day cooking and didn't have time to get rid of anything :-( I will make up for it today!

Didn't post yesterday, but managed to clean out the fridge/freezer/spice rack and get rid of anything I don't want to eat in 2010. I'll call it #105-110.

Just went through the kitchen drawers and let go of:
111. Strainer
112. Chopstick set
113. Four wooden spoons
114. Two mugs
115. Thermos
116. Knife
117. Nutcracker
118. Colander
119. Extra set of measuring cups
120. From my tool box: rusty nails and bits

Wow! You mamas have been rockin' & rollin'! Am I on the right thread for the "5 a day in 30 days" decluttering challenge??? I see many of you mamas are up into the hundreds already and I'm just getting started today!

Please point me in the right direction if I'm in the wrong spot...just seems like I'm way behind!

1. Various disposable pull-ups (I didn't buy them...my SIL gave them to me a long time ago and I won't be using them; I can't just throw them in the trash!)

2-8. Infant toys, rattles, etc.

This is just a start! I'll be donating these items to my daughter's Mom's Day Out program.

You are on the right thread. You can set your goal as five a day or as high as you want to go. You jump right in here.

12 pairs of undies that I hated. I like one specific kind. Why do I ever buy other kinds? Pondering...

That makes me 68/150 I THINK. My puter is being onery so I can't go back to far to find the answer.

Happy New Year. I am so happy to have found "my people".

I'm such a goof! I didn't realize the challenge started on 12/26! So, I'll just jump in like ya said and still try to reach 150 items by Feb 1. Surely I have enough crap here to let go of!

You're absolutely in the right spot. Come on in and make your life lighter. Warning: decluttering can be pretty addicting, hence all the over-shooting of the five-a-day goal.

Out the door this afternoon--the BIG stuff:

120. Coffee table
121. Roll of roofing paper
122. Roll of metal stuff
123. Four plastic deck chairs
124. weed-wacker
125. tomato cages

I'm glad you found us too! This is a much more gratifying pastime than shopping. I wonder what I'm going to do when all my stuff can fit in a small box? Maybe I'll convince my friends to let me declutter their stuff. For me, saying goodbye to all the stuff that isn't truly part of my life is giving me so much clarity on what I value...making it seem truly possible that we can sell our home and relocate near my family. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hoorah! Freecycle person just picked up #126: electronic keyboard and stand

We had friends over today in our small house and I was crazy getting ready -- I superfast threw away at least five things that have been lurking on the kitchen counter because I needed the space. It was great!

I am mostly lurking and not keeping track of my decluttering quite as carefully as I should, but I wanted to post that I have made great progress on my pantry! I can now actually find things I might be looking for in it, and items are organized by category (baking items, beans, dried fruit, nuts, etc.). It is wonderful!

I think I have decluttered 50 things so far since Dec. 26, but I'm not going to stop when I hit 150 or on Feb. 1!

I have told so many people about this challenge and am keeping them updated on my Facebook and they are being inspired by me...and I am inspired by all of you!!
31 - Shea Butter.
32 - Paint Pot of a colour that looks horrible on my wall....I am not sure why we kept this tester paint so long.
33 - Discovery Toys Catalogue. Christmas is over!!
34 - Rebecca Eckler "Toddlers Gone Wild."
35 - Little Jar of Bubbles that got all spilled out, but we kept for some reason.
36 - Plan Toy Catalogue.
37 - Tummy Ease. I am going to send this to my cousin who has horrible morning sickness.
38 - A printer. Yes, I said that. A Printer. Now I just have to figure where to drop it off.....
39 - A Sony Cybershot Camera...for Sale!
40 - 2 plastic coat-hangers. (I am a wood fan).

40/150!!!!

This is an amazing accomplishment for me!

Spent today going through some old cooking magazines and cutting out the recipes I wanted to keep. Put them in a 3 ring binder and recycled 14 magazines!

14 magazines
10 clothing items
6 Christmas items

forgot to look at my total, but I'm staying on track! woohoo!

Thanks! I've decided to also take part in the 2010 in 2010 challenge, so I'll be working on these challenges together. I can't wait to get rid of the clutter and live without so much "stuff"! Now, off to find my junk of the day!

Oh, and I like what I saw one mama write...about how a decluttering addiction is more fulfilling and gratifying than a shopping addiction. While I still love my shopping, I need to get rid of all the "stuff" that's clouding our home, and I'm looking forward to living more minimally.

well so far today I've managed to get rid of 32 items, a little bit of trash, but also some of DS's toys.. I'm proud of that especially since toys is the hardest thing for me to get rid of! (books are a close second, but those are easy in comparison!)

12/29--27/5
12/30--37/5
12/31--0/5
1/1--5/5
