rere, you are on a roll-already over 1000!

I got rid of 10 more items of clothing today, some mine and some baby stuff. There is a lot of bigger toys that will be going to purple heart the next time they come around for a pick up: I see tons more stuff around that I want to get rid of but I don't want to just stuff it into my garage!

We create our own reality.

Even with the small about that I've already decluttered DH is starting to twitch. I couldn't imagine what would happen if I got rid of ALL the stuff I can see, even from where I sit right now, all at once. I think he'd have a heart attack. But really, do we need to have that roll of rags on the desk? The leftover chocolates from Christmas 2008?! The gingerbread house (only Xmas 09 thank goodness). The deepfryer on the floor of my kitchen? The box to it in my livingroom!!!? A box of tools, on top of the dog crate, again. *sigh*

Today I decluttered a ton of paper from the corner by the desk. some to recycling, some to garbage (some of it wasn't even paper in that pile!) and some to a box for shredding.

I'll go with a count of 3 for today.

After going through our old computer cupboards, I found so many useless old software CDs, there were too many to just throw in the bin Finally found a children's charity that takes them and recycles them for cash for them, hurrah! So...

46 CDs - packed and ready to post to charity
2 pieces of fabric - bin
2 plastic bags - bin

and I'm not counting this as the items have already been counted, but yesterday I got 50% though my to-be-shredded pile. It's good to get through that pile! Half of it was old duplicate photos that are now in the bin, and the other half was papers that are gone into the recycling pile (yes our big recycling bin is full AGAIN, I've had to restart the to-be-recycled pile in the utility room until bin day next week!)

Where was I? Oh yes, 778+50=828/2010

oops: had to edit that, seems I can't count

Basically no. And he tries hard to see that what I am ridding from this house is for the good of the family and often for the good of someone else and is not something that we need, want or use.

Which is why I have this for today so far:
-1 food processor (broke the slicer, which is the part that I use and opted for a different model rather than a replacement part) - women's shelter
- 4 bottles of cleaners - shelter
- 2 bottle of shampoo - shelter - inherited from my mom when she moved and is awful on my hair
- 1 bag of baby clothes - to the woman who picked up the stuff for the shelter, she has a new little guy and is off on mat leave
- 1 bag of 3 scented soap (ick!) - to same woman so she can pamper herself

count of 11 for today! woohoo! 43/2010

I don't get to count things, yet, but wanted to check in and let y'all know I've been decluttering little spaces. The items are still here in the house. When they leave, then I'll count. Today, I sorted through all the reusable bags we have. I was at the Anaheim CHA Show over the weekend and was given over half a dozen new ones. We have too many from last year, so it was time to weed them out and hopefully someone else will be able to use them.

I haven't been doing daily updates as we had a super busy week and I hardly came online. The de-cluttering did slide for a few days but I am back on track. Approx another 110 items are leaving the house. I can't believe we have so many individual items just hiding everywhere. It's amazing. My total is now: 761/2010.

My goal for tomorrow is another 50 items. I think I can do it. This weekend everything is going to be dropped off (currently it is sitting all packed in bags and boxes in the spare room) and hopefully I'll have some update pictures too.

Absolutely, I'm the same, I've decluttered 828 items and can't really account for where most of 'em were hiding. The house is still a mess to the untrained eye

Some things I am delighted to see the back of, the two tables we got rid of were driving me mad, others have a more subtle effect, like being able to reach the ice-cream maker now that the smoothie maker is gone mmmm... ice-cream maker, must make coconut icecream!

Today I decluttered another bag full of papers to the recycling, it's not much but every little helps, plus I find with papers the emotional tidy-brain feeling that comes from clearing out a drawer full of rubbishy papers is well worth the work!

I also rearranged the office/play room yesterday evening and in a testament to my decluttering, I found nothing that needed to go. Had I done it a few weeks ago, the to-go pile would have been overwhelming.

Decluttering rocks

828+1 = 829/2010

Went through the cinnamon-applesauce ornaments the kids made, pulled out the broken ones, and stored the ones that were intact. About 10 ornaments thrown out that were cluttering my kitchen counter.

732/2010

I need to get a box or bag together for our weekly drop off to the thrift shop. I have some throw pillows we never used that can go.

I also need to get together the stuff for our landfill drop off. I have 21 cabinet doors/ drawer fronts that we replaced about a year ago that have been collecting dust in our basement. I thought I would use them for something, y'know, cut them down for small projects, but they're laminated, so I've decided to just pitch 'em. Add a disgusting microwave that came w/ our house 2trs ago and an old, broken cordless house phone to that list, too. Oh, and a crib that I think was part of the recalls.

Slowly but surely, slowly but surely. My biggest accomplishment will be when I go through my studio.

I didn't even count, but a rough guesstimate:

- 25 CD cases (empty)
- 10 VHS tapes (porn )
- 10 half-painted ceramic ornaments

and a whole bunch of miscellaneous CRAP. Probably about 30-40 items.

All in all I tossed two garbage bags of stuff and recycled a bunch of paper and boxes. AND I cleaned out the truck and the van! whee!

I sewed up 16 dishcloths today and used up random spools of thread in the process. They matched well enough for dishcloths. I recycled 6 empty spools of thread.

I was up until 3am last night cleaning, organizing, and decluttering the playroom. I forgot to count the things I was getting rid of until about halfway through, but my most conservative estimate is 40 items - games, puzzles, little toys, random things. Amazing how that junk tends to accumulate!

182 + 40 = 222/2010

Oh, can I join? I need to declutter so badly. I want to get rid of everything I don't wear, use, or actually need. I'm preparing to move in a few months and I don't want to drag all my junk with me. Plus, I'm looking to live more simply. I've been meaning to do this for forever, but I keep putting it off. I dread the work of it, but I know I'll be happier when I can finally get organized. This thread has me motivated! But not motivated enough to start right now. I'll start tomorrow.

Pixiemammy, your house sounds like mine! I am only starting to see a teeny weeny bit of improvement now after some 700 items are packed up and ready to go.

So far 26/50 that need to go for today. It's taking a while.. I am a little tired and going at snails pace.

Today my goal is to complete the 50, deal with all recycling which is now sitting outside on our deck in boxes and vacuum the house again.

UPDATE: Got to 42/50 and that's it for today I think. So new total is 803/2010. We are off to dinner now!

My parents called over today and mum & DD had a fun afternoon while myself & dad got rid of all the electrical waste that had been set aside from both households (I think our decluttering is starting to infect them ), and then we went for coffee and cake, an afternoon well spent! All my electrical waste has already been counted here as it was boxed up last week, it is so good to be rid of it!

I can also add from today:

2 brochures - recycling
1 broken bowl - bin (I have got to stop dropping things out of the dishwasher )
1 cardboard box - bin (to wrap up the pieces of aforementioned broken bowl safely!)
1 manky old baking sheet - bin
1 pile of random old jigsaw pieces - recycling
2 random pieces of plastic - recycling
50 bento soy sauce containers - in the post to their new owner
1 tray moldy tomatoes - bin and refund arranged with shop (they arrived yesterday as part of our online shop - they were grossly icky)
and...
4 items - bin (I can't decipher my scribbledy notes as I used a fat crayon to write them down & I can't remember what they were, I can read "4 blah..blah.. blah... - bin" )

So... 829+63=892/2010 Ok, off to make dinner

I'm giving myself +2 b/c I cleaned out my big houseplant. Pulled out all the dead leaves and stems that accumulated in the planter. It was sad. I also clipped a few vines and started another vase w/ clippings to ease the energy draw on the main big plant.

Checking in again....

I took time to go through my pattern box last night, looking for some hand-drawn designs, and pulled out 10 patterns for giving away. Will count those when they leave the house.

Meanwhile, I recycled a dozen hand-drawn designs for items I have made for clients or my family over the years and don't need to repeat. I also recycled a dozen ideas I had cut out of magazines. The hand-drawn designs meant something to me and were far more difficult to part with, so I am counting each of those. The ideas from magazines were easy to recycle, so I am counting the lot of those as one. = 13

I am up to 81/2010, which is 4% of my goal. I have to keep reminding myself... slow and steady gets the job done eventually...

My goodness! I had no idea I had 300 - YES 300 - Plastic shopping bags lurking in 2 kitchen cupboards! I packed them all up and promptly sent them off to the nearest plastic bag recycling bin to be recycled into other products. I am counting each 10 bags as one lot. So 30 lots in total.
Also got rid of 4 individual items from the kitchen and 2 huge bags of paper which is now sitting in the recycling bin (approx 6 lots).

We are also about to shred over 250 documents (25 lots).

My total so far is 868/2010. Off to do some more!

We have an inspection on the 9th of Feb - I will post the update pictures then because everything will be finished by that time.
