See, all I needed was a little encouragement.
I just tossed the kitchen stuff that I waited three weeks for someone to pick up and he's never showed.
So,
4 frying pans (they were sitting on my porch because my MIL wanted them. well, she can bloody well keep them in her storage locker after she gets them out of our dump trailer, not on my porch!)
1 rice cooker - gifted to me by a friend, never did work.
2 small pots + 1 lid
2 glasses

And then I cleaned out the toy box of all the "little baby" toys, didn't count but probably 15? Gonna get a table at the next swap meet to try to sell them and all our other no longer needed baby gear. If they don't get sold there I MIGHT try Craigslist otherwise I'll just donate them.

ETA: So that's 25 items for today while the baby was napping 231+25 = 256!

I am so IN! "Decluttering" is my new middle name. I'm just getting started and I'm interested to see how much headway I can make before the baby is born (~8 weeks!).

Now, look at me! After I posted 40 minutes ago, I went through all the receiving blankets and purged TWENTY-ONE blankets to take to the sistercare. Why did I have so many to begin with? I still have a nice stack of my very favorite ones and 21 other babies will have a snuggly, well-loved blanket to be wrapped up in.
I also finally let go of a wallet that I no longer used, but had become sentimentally attached to over its 10-year career and a flat-iron I bought because everyone said I should but I never got the hang of ironing my thick, thick hair for 30-45 minutes just so it would be a teensy bit straighter/sleeker...
So, that's 23 items in my first 45 minutes of the challenge! I've got a long way to go, but what a start!

Ok, it's me again. I don't know if I should be gleefully happy or embarrassed by the sheer excess, but I just decluttered ONE drawer and ONE cabinet in my kitchen and OH MY GOODNESS!! I culled 72 items to be trashed or donated (50 items to donate)!! I went through the children's utensils/bowls/cups/sippys and came up with 72 items that we really didn't need. Wow. I really needed this!
So I'm up to 95/2010 so far!! woot!

Cleaning out the closet was easier than I thought. Get rid of clothes that have crease marks because they have been folded for so long. I had some pants that were hanging in the closet and had dust on them.

4 sweaters
3 pants
5 t shirts

This Salvation Army box is getting full quite quickly.

Checking in to say we've been super busy with school and birthday celebrations and misc. other things this month. DD went through her swimsuits yesterday and one hit the charity pile. She also dropped a pair of too-small shoes in the pile. Other random items have gone into the charity pile, as well. Not sure when I will get a chance to get the pile neatly packed and off to the thrift store, but that's when I will count the items for this challenge.

Meanwhile, in our birthday celebrations thus far, we used items we already owned and now they are out of our house. A dozen balloons, two large picture backs (cardboard used for posters/favors), craft supplies for said posters, and something else I am forgetting at the moment. = 4

Before the big party, DH finally swapped our first anniversary gift from the old frame to the new frame (only had it since Black Friday 2009) and set the "free" old frame in the customary spot. = 1

Does it count if I had DD's birthday gifts since Black Friday 2009 and now they are wrapped and waiting for her to open them in the morning? Hmmmm.....

ETA: The something I forgot was 4 somethings (favors) I have had for eons and FINALLY found a good use for them! = 3

I took all my 260 items (plus some nonperishable food items decluttered from my pantry but uncounted) to a community services center this morning. This is a group doing a great work filling a large need in my community; they give out food and vouchers for their thrift shop and even help with paying utility bills for people living in our area that need the help but don't meet qualifications for government aid. In fact, at this time last year, I was on the receiving end at this center. My husband's job cut hours back, back, back till he was making less than 2/3 of his normal pay and we were barely scraping by, but not eligible for any govermental assistance. It felt like such a blessing to be able to donate back to them close to 300 items that I know will go to families like mine that really need a helping hand.
So, not only have I decluttered these items, they are OUT OF MY HOUSE!!! WOOT!

I haven't reported in for a while, but I've been working on several decluttering projects. My best friend and I had a decade of correspondence that we've kept, with the intent that we'd read it again when we're old. We decided that we'd rather do something else when we're old than read about the sorrows of our youth. We each kept a few of our favorite letters, and the rest became a beautiful bonfire. It was pure bliss to sing together as all those old thoughts, worries, sadnesses were transformed into smoke and ash. By the end we were laughing with joy.

I also re-read and released my late grandmother's correspondence. I didn't count the pieces of the two releases, but I'll say:

607-657: letters

I need to do a massive decluttering. For one I need to organize and its IMPOSSIBLE to organize clutter. Two we are moving to a different country sometime this year or early next year. I don't want to move all this clutter with me. Here is what I have so far
10 pieces of shelving that we were using to store toys
5 fabric boxes that E took scissors to (No idea where she got the scissors, little stinker)
30 stuffed animals that were either unloved or loved a little to much and were falling apart
10 cloth diapers that were falling apart
1 toy we were given for Lexi and never opened (I don't keep toys that have batteries and make noise and this was not only a battery operated toy but OUCH it hurt the ears)
1 children's grocery cart that was missing a wheel
1 toy chest that wasn't being used.
70- pieces of outgrown clothing we didn't want to keep for another child

Total so far- 128

It helps to keep track of the total because I see what Ive done and how far Ive gone. I lost motivation easily so I enjoy seeing exactly what Ive accomplished. I'm also going to keep track of my decluttering and organizing on my blog to keep me accountable.

That's pretty good OkiMom!
And congrats Rere for meeting your goal!

I'm plugging along here, decluttering but not counting yet because it's not out of my house. I've been adding more and more to the "sell" pile for the swap meet. Hope I can find enough room to display it all! (and therefore sell it!)

Rere- awesome job!

Steadily plugging way here...in the middle of packing up my roomie's room to send his stuff across the country to his wife's storage unit (they both are on tour all year long so he was rarely here anyway). I decided to count all of his stuff in the kitchen that I pulled out but anything coming out of his room will be counted by the box...makes sense to me!

1 sweatshirt donate
6 hangers donate
2 pillows donate
21 glassware packed up to mail
1 bread machine to garage sale pile
2 full bottles of cleaner to garage sale
10 random garage bolts/screws/hardware trash

Me my DH 4.5 year old DS and who just arrived on the scene 6/10 Excited to be blogging! Decluttering in 2010: 2010 / 2010

ok, ready to jump aboard. i really didn't think i could possibly purge 2010 items from my house in one year (and have stuff left over), but i now realize i was in total denial. let the purge begin, and i'm totally making myself a counter in my signature to help me see my progress

eta: so i have something to start with i'm going to count stuff i've already gotten rid of, may be a bit of a guess, but it's a start!

1- pair of shoes to my cousin
20 or so paper diapers to same cousin (bought in an emergency when ds was sick out of town, never touched since)
15 or so items to thrift store the day after new years

Katie, mommy to Oliver (2007) and brand new Ava Estelle (2014)!
Decluttering Challenge:  303/2014 items are gone!
$728 made from selling my "stuff"
(I've gotten rid of 3711 items over the last four years on this forum! Last years selling total: $456)
