Books are so tough...I keep my very favorites, ones i really liked, and ones dd likes, loves or I can see her liking when she is ready.
I appologize to the ones I don't like and tell them they will be appreciated more in someone elses home.

#13 I threw out a jar of pickled garlic that I hated, but kept because I didnt want to waste them. I keep trying them in recipes but nothing makes them tase good.

Echoing the question about bringing stuff into the house- do we take away form our 2010 list, or does it matter?
My vote is for does not matter if it is necessary and has a place/purpose.

Went through the box of wii stuff and am donating all the game cases. Various pieces of crap in the trash. Now all the controllers, guitars, etc. are all in a nice bin in the tv table.

I just went through all our craft stuff, which also had an entire collection of old party supplies - decorated paper napkins, plates, cups. I had planned on using them all one day, but that day never came.

So, a nice good sized bin full of stuff we don't need and haven't used...all GONE.

Also, a wooden box that housed cards from birthdays and holidays from 10-15
years ago. I didn't even go through them, just chucked 'em. GONE!

2. Tackled a pile and recycled most of it.

I've got two books requested on my swap sites. I'll count those once they get sent.

I may be able to combine this with my 2010 house goals. I will go through a room a month cleaning it from top to bottom and repairing/replacing items, as needed, and decluttering along the way (as detailed in the 2010 goals thread). Counting tends to bog me down and stress me out, though. Yet, being accountable on threads such as this motivates me. (The 2010 goals type threads typically fall by the wayside sooner than counting threads.) We'll see which effect wins out as being the most productive for me!

Since the underwear drawer has been so popular I decided to have a look in mine last night.

14 pieces of underwear gone

and this morning I finally got rid of the coffee bag that had more kitchen fuzz on it than coffee in it.

My attention span is a little short so I will try and stay on the challenge this year. I am going to start counting from My the challenge total because I have been on a major purge since Dec 26th.

That is a great idea. Most of my books are certainly not being appreciated.

I'm also going to resolve to not bring any more new books into my home until I have my current stash and reading list under control.

Went through my bathroom cupboards and found to be trashed (all expired, old, unusable):

19. Hair volumizing spray
20. Mystic Tanning foam
21-22. Victoria's Secret lotions
23. Clinique lotion
24. Mary Kay perfume
25. Lancome cream
26. Desitin
27. Victoria's Secret body powder
28. Bath & Body Works sprays
29. Bath & Body Works lotion
30. Biore nose strips

The smell of those lotions and sprays almost made me gag. :Puke

2 - a rug fragment that i'd been holding onto for some strange reason
3 thru 26 - 24 pairs of underwear

hooray! feels good to get rid of stuff. it's a small start, but it's a start (i normally hold onto EVERYTHING).

i could have written this but replace girls with boys. yes i LOVE hand me downs...my oldest starts with them and they get passed on to the younger two...one good thing about getting many pieces is they don't get worn out so quickly and keep in good shape for #3 ...but it is 5 of us in 900 sq. feet condo...short on space...the trunks of our cars are outdoors toy bins ha ha

i have a hard time getting rid of old toys...new toys that we received get re-gifted no problem...but I have some old toys that i can't let go off...don't know why...

Decluttered some old cds yesterday that have moved house several times with us and never been unpacked (until now)

41 CDs to 2nd hand CD shop
5 CDs posted to new owners
4 broken CD covers into trash
1 old pair of spectacles recycled in spectacle charity bin
1 glass jar dropped & spectacularly smashed all over kitchen floor (not exactly decluttering, but it is gone from the house now so I'm counting it )

Nothing is out of the house yet, so I am not counting it. However, we went through the game cabinet last night and some other children are going to be thrilled with 2 puzzles, 1 card game, and 2 board games (all outgrown and chosen by DD).

I have a designated spot in my side of the master bedroom closet for charity items. We all put things there as we decide we don't need them for whatever reason. I hadn't looked specifically in that bag since the 100 items by year-end challenge. The current bag was half full before adding the items last night.

Okay, today was like Christmas all over again with a few new things I treated myself to. I bought a new pair of running shoes for the 10K training I started today, and I received a new book and a new laptop bag that I ordered online. So, for the new shoes, I'm letting go of a bunch of old shoes. For the new book, I'm getting rid of some old, unneeded books. For the new laptop bag, I'm getting rid of old purses, totes and bags that I haven't used in YEARS.

31-37. 7 pairs of shoes to Goodwill
38-41. 4 purses/bags
42. Sunhat

The books will come in a bit. I need to think good and hard about the ones I should let go.
