We are in the process of setting up a studio in our basement. Currently we have the sheetrock up and are ready to put in cabinets but I am not sure what I want...the room is 14x11 and the only thing in there (that will stay) are two small chest freezers. Other than that, I need to put my potters wheel down there and I sew, scrapbook, stainglass, bead, etc. We will be plumbing in a sink. The space where the cabinets would go are two walls that are 6' and 11'. I was thinking of going with all low cabinets and then putting up some magnetic strips over the lowers to hang kid artwork. I thought about building in a desk for sewing but I sew a lot of quilts and it is nice to have room to push them off the flat sewing surface if needed.

So....does anyone have pictures of your craft space? What do you like/dislike? What do you wish you could add?

Thanks!

This is supposed to be my craft/sewing table. I can easily move the computer out of the way. My fabric is in a basement closet at the moment. I need to bring it all upstairs.

Damn, I need to move to Kentucky. Awesome house and yard! We would have to be Google founders to afford that in the Bay Area.

No pictures per se, but I wanted to share something we did due to necessity that I have really come to appreciate. My "sewing table" is actually a counter that comes up to my short ribs. The sewing machine sits on that and I stand while I sew. #1. It takes up less space as the counter does double duty for my dye work and sewing. #2. I suspect its more ergonomic-I'm not hunched over sewing, but rather, everything is close to my face so I can concentrate on details and yet my position doesn't leave me with a crick in my back. I thought it might be awkward to sew that way at first, but the transition was pretty easy-as long as your machine has a long enough cord for the pedals!

-Just my two cents.

Thanks! We moved here from a 1000sft rancher with unfinished basement on 0.03acres. I felt bad about how much we sold that little house for!!
