you spend 14 hours decluttering someone else's house!

I had a situation where one family member was moving in to another's very, small, very cluttered home- and trying to make space to fit everyone

Even tho the home is tiny, there is room for the people-- it is all the CLUTTER that is the problem- and I mean true clutter like PILES of baby clothes and baby blankets- when the youngest is 4yo
Keeping toys the KIDS don't want- when there is barely space for what they do want

Hanging onto yucky broken furniture because 3 out of 4 drawers work

Having no place to put anything- yet coming across Empty drawers (in the furniture that should be gone anyway)

Sooooooo easy when it is other people's stuff (yet still can be overwhelming).....but you have all that objectivity

Anyway, I have been working on my own clutter, and I am really going to try to take an observers stance on it....
pretend I don't know it cost x amount of dollars or was Such a great bargain or free...
or that so and so gave it to me...
or that I *always* wanted one of those-- yet I Never use it
or that the kids used to love it or play with it- yet could care less now

Let others have these items and actually get some benefit from them, more than I would by hanging on

etc etc etc

Yes, this exactly. Once I realized that my hanging onto things that were useless to me was preventing someone else from enjoying them, that made a huge difference for me.

I wish I could find a way to make myself be more objective. I'll bet that would help.
