How about cabinets with doors?
If you found something you liked, it could then house all the items you mentioned, and there'd probably be space on either side for candles or baskets or something pretty that you love.
Another idea was an aquarium but I wasn't sure if you'd want to go there lol
A large mirror or stained glass window (backlit)

That isn't what I was picturing either! I can see how you use it to collect things. I would totally use that like a table! If you have small things like candles or pictures, I can see how they would just get pushed aside to set stuff there. I think you need something to give it height, like a vertical mirror or piece of art, and then something substantial like a sculpture or bowl that will take up a good portion of it so you aren't tempted to "use" it!
