3.  broken photo carousel, trashed. This one hurt.  I've been wanting to fix it for 2 years, but never did.  Plus, the photo covers are yellowed.  It was junky, but I miss it!

ETA: I've started packing books and DVDs already. We have SO MANY DVDs!! I can't really foresee getting rid of any. DH really likes his movies. We do need a bigger storage system for them. Hopefully I can figure something suitable once we move. Ideally I'd like a dresser so I can put DVDs in the drawers and TV on top. It'd be nice to get them out of sight.

The best thing I ever did for our DVD collection was to invest in some binders w/ DVD sleeves (think a grownup version of baseball card sleeves).  It is so awesome, we have them separated out into kid and teen/adult movies (not THAT kind of adult!) so all the little kids have to do is flip through a couple dozen pages and they can find exactly what they want.  We did the same thing with CDs, back when people actually bought CDs.  winky.gif  It save SO much space!

I did this too!! We have at least 400 DVDs. I bought a book for just the kids, a book for us and organized it by genre and a book for games (Wii, Game Cube, etc). I've gotten rid of all of the cases. The only DVDs on my shelves are part of series, like X Files, Start Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.

I haven't been the greatest at counting. I'm still at 190/2011, I guess. I need to do more and post more because I can never find my last post!

I'd like to give this a shot. Not sure I'll make it to 2011 things, but it sure is a good goal, and I'll be happy with even half that.

We have a huge pile awaiting garbage day (well.. it's been waiting a while) sitting in our basement. Once that's gone it'll be much emptier and I'll have more room to get around and find more. I've already gone through the kids old clothes for donations but I'm having a hard time letting them go since we're not 100% sure this baby isn't a boy.

I'll start keeping track of what I can get rid of and see how it goes! :)

I held my breath this morning and dove into the fridge. 43 expired sauces, leftovers, and mystery items composted and recycled. Yay! And I cleaned the shelves. Still have the produce to go but I generally stay on top of it pretty well. Now I can have a fresh start on meal planning too. joy.gifjoy.gif
So the new total with
4 dolls
4 doll outfits
43 old sauces and leftovers from the fridge

is 241!

Yay!

Ooooh!  Me too!  Me too!  I could easily been up to at least 500 by now if I had been keeping track, but I have so much more to get rid of that I will start from 1 and I WILL get to 2011.  I am moving next week and am tossing/recycling/purging/donating like MAD, MAD, MAD!  If the guy who is supposed to come for my white water kayak comes tonight, I will have the following gone:

1. White water kayak

2-4. 3 spray skirts for kayak

5. short sleeve spray jacket for kayaking

6. dry top for kayaking

7. throw bag (kayaking)

8-9 two paddles

10. set of paddling gloves

So, after filling a garbage bag with all sorts of random clutter from my desk, I realized I am not going to be able to do this challenge.  I will definitely get rid of 2011 by the end of this month alone, but I just can't commit to keeping track of what it is.  I am in such utter chaos with my move right now that keeping track is just one more thing to stress out about.  Good luck to everyone on your de-cluttering journey!

thanks clutterwarrior I should have thought of that but it was late and i have pregnancy brain on top of that. i got a start on the clothes- did the first go through and got rid of just over 50 items. i didn't realize i had that many clothes never mind just ones that weren't that hard to let go of. i was thinking of trying to get down to 7 of each thing ie 7 pants etc but i don't know- between kids, cooking and do the farm chores my clothes take quite a beating. of course i never notice till i'm in a store with better lighting. i bet people aren't really surprised half the time i find random bits of hay stuck in my dreads hours after actually handling the hay -and getting back from town whistling.gif

I second the binder with sleeves idea.  You could save even more room by putting them all on a hard drive, and using your computer to watch them if you have a decent monitor.  My computer screen faces the couch in the living room, and is a nice flat screen.  You just need a dedicated hard drive for them all :P  Probably I lot of people want their TV still though.. but it works for our family :)

I also never go new clothes shopping and it's super hard to find my fit and style in consignment/used clothes stores so I'm reluctant to get rid of my clothes i haven't worn in a while- cause some day i won't be nursing.any ideas?

I know what you mean about it being hard to find clothes.  However, I decided I probably will never go back to the stuff that's not nursing friendly.  It's been almost 2 years of wearing low cut/v neck shirts, and now anything else feels weird.  So I am ditching everything else.  But I guess it depends on if you need those types of clothes for work or something.  Also if you plan on having more kids, then it could be a long time before you wear what you did before having little nursing kids.  I got rid of most of my maternity clothes, they were getting thin and faded anyway.  I was cycling the same couple tank tops at one point for months and months.  But I also don't really plan on having anymore kids anytime soon.

I guess you just have to decide how long it will be before you can wear them again, and if it's worth it to store them for that long.  Maybe keep the 3 different sizes you mentioned, but toss anything you don't love or that doesn't make you happy to wear?

Its been 5 years since I wore my non maternity/non nursing friendly clothing. Half way through my 2nd pregnancy I took a look at them and decided it would probably be years before I ever wore them again so why keep them. Who knows what my body shape will be when I stop having children/nursing since every pregnancy changes me, even when I drop all the weight. Also, fashions change, I change etc so who knows if I would even WANT to wear them.

As for the number of clothing, having young kids I tend to end up dirty a lot. I dont' like wearing dirty clothing even around the house so idealy Id like to have enough to last through 2 outfits a day for a week or 14 outfits. Then a couple outfits for church or if Im going out somewhere nice. Right now I have like 5 outfits total and I have to do my laundry a couple times a week to keep up with it. Everyone is different when it comes to how many outfits would be good. How many do you think you go through in a week? Do you/would you like to seperate your outfits between "at home" and "when you are out"? Do you go to church or out regularly where you would want something nice to wear?

If it doesn't stand out as clutter ... maybe start thinking in terms of how minimalistic you can go or want to go.

Maybe this list will give some ideas?  http://www.becomingminimalist.com/2010/05/06/101-physical-things-that-can-be-reduced-in-your-home/

12 misc toiletries from my bathroom

1 halloween decoration - the last one in the entire house! yay!

2 razor handles

8 misc toys, 1 play firehat, 1 pillow

3 old ballet costumes, 2 old soccer jerseys, 1 tshirt from my middle school

30 books, 11 stuff animals, 8 baby toys

1 toddler chair

1 salt shaker

1 play piano toy

9 beanie babies, 9 balls, 1 frisbee

2 binders, 1 big plastic organizer, 1 pencil holder

Re-homed:

WiFi signal locator that needs a battery

Pin

25 or so articles of maternity clothing that I don't like or doesn't fit, given to a friend

Trash:

1 old candle

mini cassette (we don't even have a mini cassette player!)

1 jar lid to a glass-jar candle

I also got rid of the boxes from DH's and my wedding rings.  This was difficult for me!  If I had asked DH, he would have said "we can't get rid of those, they're from our wedding rings!!!"  But they're just jewelry boxes, nothing particularly fancy.  And it's not like we need them for anything; they're just taking up space in a drawer.  So I threw them away.  Making true headway on the clutter now!!!

That's very understandable. You are still doing the challenge though, so don't beat yourself up or anything. Counting doesn't really matter, as long as you get rid of stuff, which you are obviously doing! :)  Good luck with your move!
