51-55 - Ad Free Magazine (Baby Bug) to local Kindergarten classroom. just slipped them in the mailbox with a nope - hope you can use these. That felt good. They've been hanging around for a few years while I waited to catch the teacher.

56-59. 4 tops - given to me by a friend - for postpartum clothes.

60-61- 2 pair of PJs from same friend that i LOVED - very nursing friendly, but I've shrunk out of them. Really wanted to give to a neighbor but she never called me back. Can't wait any longer!

(and one ugly sweatsuit that makes me feel fat finally left in the same bag, but I already counted it as part of the 150 by Christmas challenge).

I'm going slow, but steady. I have a bag for an upscale store that can be dropped off tomorrow, some college textbooks that an organization will take and some more things that can be thrown out - but I'm not counting them yet.

I took my ginormous box of crap to the Goodwill drop box today.  It felt soooo good to get rid of that stuff.  I can't wait til the big basement purge next weekend.  We've already taken care of some of the "weeding", but I know we can do better!

Yesterday sat with ds6 who was sick in bed. Today I am sick as well. Haven't been able to get rid of anything, but have my eye on several items in my bedroom now that i have spent to so much time awake in here!

Keeping up with the posts though! Way to go. Can't wait to get back to it!

I have been working slowly at this, and most of my energy and efforts have gone toward preparing for a huge consignment sale that is next week, so I'm not counting that stuff until it leaves the house. Right now I have done (at least):

-1 regifted duplicate gift

-4 bottles of expired meds

-1 torn oven mitt set

-6 PB books

-3 journals

-1 broken kids visor

-12 expired membership/insurance cards

-4 bags general trash/clutter, including one lone shoe with missing mate

Ooops-forgot:

-2 pairs shoes that no longer fit

-1 pair tights wrong size

-2 unused toys

-1 pair too-short pants

-14 matchbox cars

Total:52/2011 (ugh-seems so low, but there's more a-coming soon!)

I'm joining late but I think I probably just got rid of 1,000 things.  Though they had been boxed up for months (some of them years!), getting them out the door (and out of my car) is the hardest part!!!!  My resolution is to get rid of something every day so I guess that puts me right here with you all!

Doesn't decluttering make one wonder why we have kept some of the oddest and most useless things!

I know! I don't think I was thinking at all.. just mindlessly collecting things.  Why?!

Also, out of the thousands of things I have gotten rid of in the last couple years, I realized I only kind of regret one.  So 1 out of say, 3000 things.  Realizing this makes it easier for me to let some of the sentimental things go.

Yes! And the truly absurd thing is that I had 'decluttered' the drawer where I found those things once before, and somehow I managed to convince myself they were significant enough to keep.

Came down wicked sick last night and I'm just starting to be able to keep food down so no decluttering going on here today. Hopefully tomorrow but I just saw the kitchen and living room and I think that will take most of the day- as bad as it is I'm just thankful DH had the day off and handled the kids all day and did the farm chores blowkiss.gif

Cleaned in the master bedroom again today - got rid of a ton of junky items that were in totes under my bed, and entire trash can of recycle, and 2 bags of trash.
Counting the junky stuff as 30 items - I am pretty sure it was at least that much.

115 + 33 = 148/2011

Convinced DH to tackle a major project today, putting up wall hangings that have been languishing in corners and on shelves, waiting to be put on the walls.  So that's 7 pieces of clutter eliminated!  And a prettier house.  He also agreed to get rid of a few things, hooray!

In the donate bin:

3 bachelor wall hangings

old trivet

measuring glass (I'm not sure what one is supposed to measure with it?)

In the trash:

stupid toy chair that DD keeps breaking and I keep gluing back together

smelly old incense

a bunch of broken bits of pottery I was saving in order to fix them -- someday --

That reminds me of a story... pertinent to decluttering, really.  My grandparents moved several times in their later years, from house to apartment to smaller apartment to assisted living to nursing home.  And with each move, they got rid of more & more stuff, so as to fit into a smaller space.  Well, after three moves, we were moving them yet another time, and my mother found a box in a bedroom closet, some sort of mechanical item.  A household tool or camera, something like that.  And on the box there was a label in my grandmother's writing: "Doesn't work" with a date, ten years earlier.  And then, below it, in a different color ink, it read, "...yet" and another date, five years earlier.  It had traveled through three moves with them, carrying that little label promising that someday, it could really be fixed.

Say it again with me, everyone, three times now: "We are not destined to become our parents.  (Or grandparents.)"

I'm traveling the world with my kids without ever leaving home and blogging about it -- watch, taste, and share our adventures at TheGlobalStayCation.com!

I think I need to add my count to my signature, I keep forgetting what my number is and then have to scroll through all these pages to find my last post.  Didn't there used to be a way to click straight to one's last post?

I have not been vigilant about this, but today I am going to make a concerted effort to get rid of stuff.  Our house looks like a tornado went through it every day; it hurts my brain to look at it.

ETA:  200 items are going out of my house in about five minutes!  About half is trash, the other half going to Goodwill.

Sorted through lots of boxes in the attic today (we are still unpacking after our house move in October), managed to get books onto shelves and organise storage items like Christmas decorations etc. into plastic boxes with lids instead of their current cardboard boxes. Determined to get rid of all the cardboard boxes, some have been moving house with us since 1999!

Recycled:

14 cardboard boxes

2 bags of glass bottles

Donated:

1 huge fabric Christmas gift bag

1 plastic money box

Magically transformed from clutter into useful item:

1 set of wooden blocks - they are the legs of our futon sofa (it's so much more comfy now)

154+19=173/2011
