Finally beating this flu. Was up & about today, but took lots of breaks while getting the house back in order. Also decided to count the things that I add to the "maybe donate" bin. When it is full, if I think I want any of those items I will have to subtract them to my yearly count to keep them and I think that will make me really think about it first.

garbage or recycle bin:

busted pen

large bag of bags (these were sent with dd to the grocery store)

expired badger balm

donate bin:

gladware 3 pcs

puzzle

tupperware shaker

puppet

strap with snaps on it

spatula

doll

tea infuser

leapster

books - 14

ornament

wrapping paper rolls - 4

wicker garbage can

container with no lid

soap dish

scented soap

rain ponchos - 2

pillow case

dog brush

paint stick

jars - 2

Additionally went through my knitting stuff. I took my first lesson about 3 years ago, only finished one project which I didn't even like. I started quite a few more than that, though! I ofcourse jumped in and bought tons of supllies from the most adorable knitting shop in our town too. Took several of their classes, always went too fast for me. I would keep taking them even if I hadn't finished the last classes project. Turns out I really don't like knitting. I want to, but don't. I would rather read, do yoga, cook & bake, and ofcourse travel. So now it's time to move on. I will finish (with help of a friend) the 2 felted animals that I promised my boys oh about 2 years ago. The rest of the stuff was binned to give to a friend from our synogogue that loves to knit. It is actually very freeing to admit this.

straight knitting needles - 6 sets

ciruclar needles - 5 sets

crochet hooks  - 7

misc items - sm bag

skein of beautiful, expensive yarn - 18

cabling hooks - 2

gauge tool

project started on needles - 3

bag thing to hold started projects

New grand total = 179/2011

I'm counting things as I box them for goodwill even if they aren't actually out of the house yet - they are contained and waiting for pick up.  Had our first pick up yesterday and there was an enormous mountain of stuff - felt so good to get it gone.  And now I have already started another huge pile.

me too! Five old college textbooks to send to Better World Books, one of which is worth $10, the rest, I was lucky they would take. DH and I must have entered like 20 of my old books but they wouldn't even take them, they were so old. My graduate books are less old and they took those. I'm not counting them until they are gone. I have 3 packages to take to the PO.

76-77. Two magnetic Important Info pages that I get when I buy the same calendar year after year, but I still use the first one. Given to 2 friends along with some binders from work.

I have a pick-up coming tomorrow but I don't want to count anything until it makes it out the door and on the truck. I'm hopeful. Trying to sneak some of DDs old things out of the house.

Diana, I'm so inspired by you, getting rid of stuff from your wedding!  Fortunately, we borrowed most of our wedding things, so we don't have a lot of wedding memorabilia cluttering stuff up.  But DH is absolutely opposed to getting rid of things from our wedding -- too sentimental, KWIM?  Today, I finally boxed up all of the wedding cards we received, plus a few other little things (a couple of our wedding favors, our guest book, etc.) to store until some future anniversary, when we will (hopefully) look through them nostalgically and then get rid of them. :)

I completely reorganized our bookshelves today -- it was a HUGE job.  I have three big piles for DH to sort through when he gets home, and the "giveaway" pile I'm not counting until it's out of the house.  But here's what I managed so far:

Tossed/recycled:

1 shredded book jacket

1 destroyed pop-up book (those are just a ridiculous idea, IMO)

1 envelope of old photo negatives

2 cases for books/DVD's we no longer have

11 old magazines

Woo hoo!  It feels great to get that shelf under control, finally.

I'm traveling the world with my kids without ever leaving home and blogging about it -- watch, taste, and share our adventures at TheGlobalStayCation.com!

Ugh, I'm so sad, I just cleared instead of submitted.  :(

I'm at 394/2011, I had it all listed out and now it's gone.

Plus 1 tidier dining room, and 1 tidier dining room.  Plan: to continue working on the playroom, it still needs a lot of work.

one idea for those sentimental cards is to turn them into an ornament. cut the pictures on the card in a circle (make all the same size) then fold the circle on three sizes making a triangle in the middle. glue the bent up sides together making a hollow ball. it's easier than trying to describe it:)

I made one from wedding congrats cards and another from ds's birth congrats cards. I put them on our solstice tree. we enjoy them now instead of having a shoe box full of cards we never look at.

Okay, I'm in!  Whew, that was a kinda hard commitment for me but I saw someone's post about tackling the cabinet with old jars and plastic kitchen stuff  and that did it!  I HAVE to clean out that shelf (which has turned into 1 1/2 shelves!)
