I've never been part of these threads before  but I commtted myself this year.  I am pretty good about decluttering and keeping very little but I wanted to keep track and know just how much I declutter in a year.  I have so far decluttered 57 items since January 1st.  This includes a cat house(one of those carpet covered things), some clothing, a set of book ends, a plastic container chapstick came in, some blankets, a barbie or two, etc.  I'm looking forward to getting rid of more.

I'm also having a yard sale in two weeks, so my numbers will go up hopefully as I sort out things for that.

Way to go, those of you getting rid of photos and negatives!  This is by far the hardest thing for me to get rid of.  I'm gearing up to it...

Yesterday, we delivered a bag of about 75 items of baby clothes to a friend.  Woo hoo!!!  I'm not sure whether I should count it as 1 or as 75... but I think I'll count it as 1 because they were borrowed to begin with.

Also, we returned 2 other things we'd borrowed from another friend.  So 3 items yesterday.  Slow and steady wins the race...!

Ugh, my dh's aunt came over today and tried to unload a crate of old books on us. The funny thing is, when I read all the posts about how posters' relatives insisted on giving them tons of stuff, I was thinking, thank God dh's aunt hasn't brought anything over recently. I should have been thinking, hmm it's probably time for another drop off! Most of what she gives us is already at least second-hand and typically very old, so that makes it so much easier to get rid of it. I don't have to feel bad about how much money she has spent or about binning perfectly good stuff. Almost everything she brings over has already been used to its maximum potential!  It's hard to say no because she is easily offended, and she gives fruit from her trees (today it was a huge bag of oranges,) and we'd like to keep getting stuff like that. Today I was able to politely refuse all but two coloring books. She was less insistent than usual because dh was here and he made it pretty clear to her that we didn't want the books. (She doesn't listen to me- she is really old-fashioned and doesn't think I have final say in our house. irked.gif )

recycled:
food storage jar
2 books
magazine from 2005
hs yearbook (well, the pages, I binned the cover)
2 cardboard boxes

binned:
2 wine glasses with cracks in their stems
weird little pump thing
3 rolls of negatives

an 8 X 10 picture I didn't like

586 - the aunt's 2 coloring books = 584

I hit 41 weeks yesterday so the decluttering has majorly slowed down as I get more huge and tired belly.gif Not long now though!!

I did use the constant sitting down as an opportunity to go through my massive amount of digiscrapping files and ruthlessly weed out stuff I no longer liked/used. My mantra was a combination of "just because it was free doesn't mean it's worth keeping" and "just because I paid for it doesn't mean it's worth keeping" orngtongue.gif So a lot of stuff deleted and a lot more tidied up and now easier to sort through. I'll give myself 1 point for the lot.

Also 5 spice jars - cleaned out and recycled.

2 curtain tiebacks + 2 fancy tieback hooks installed by DH so now they are functional and no longer clutter (they have been sitting on the counter waiting patiently since October)!

And 1 attic stairs access rod given to my parents (we had three and they had none!)

180+11=191/2011

ETA: and 1 book sold on Amazon so we can add $12.18 to the running decluttering profit total!!

don't know if this will help, but those with hoarding tendencies (guilty) like to hold on to things until they find the perfect person. I read in a book to kind of "trust the universe" and give the item to a thrift store and let THEM find the perfect person. Maybe DH can think about sending them back to the thrift store someone else can use them. Ironically, we clutter challenged HATE to waste things. Maybe the waste angle will help.

Went through the cabinet in the bathroom while dd had a bath.

binned:
lotion that was a gift that I can't use because I have dermatitis
dental floss that hurts (plastic container recycled)
deodorant that was part of a gift package that wasn't even meant for me but wound up here

Also put a duck bath mitt in my donate pile, I'll add it to the total when that stuff goes out

I've decided to keep track of exactly what I'm getting rid of in a spreadsheet and just update numbers here.

If anyone is really interested, it's here:

I'm up to 34 items! Slow but sure. Thanks everyone for keeping me motivated!

I posted an ad for some of my daughter's 3T clothes (she's a 4T now)- I sold them right away and then got another response from someone begging me for the clothes- so I found myself digging through the kid's closet to find all the 3T stuff I could find. Pretty good motivation to go through the clothes when someone is offering you money for them! lol

+20 kid's clothes items

handful of misc toys/garbage from playroom

deleted tons of files on my computer

book for graphing calculator that I'm pretty sure my ex ended up with 3.5 years ago- which means its moved with me twice eyesroll.gif

plastic storage bag for comforter

1001!

Oh kinda funny, I told my mom about doing this, and how many I was up to.. she paused and then said "well I hope you aren't getting rid of anything I spent money on!"  I said mom, what am I suppose to do? You send us a couple packages a month! I don't have infinite storage space!  She quickly changed the subject.  lol!

Seriously don't worry about how much is left to go. It gets easier and easier the more you do, and it adds up faster than you'd think it would.  The first couple days or weeks are the hardest I think.
