Thank you! I'm going to continue to post for the rest of the year and then I'll join the 2012 thread. :-) Whether or not we make the goal, or how close we come to it, we're all making our homes more harmonious and less cluttered.

Well, I am accepting that I will not make the 2011 goal this year...I will blame it on a 3 week ICU stay for my daughter, a new baby, and the resulting fussy/never-let's me-put-him-down life I've been living, but I made a pretty darn good start in my decluttering mission!! Here's my latest:
-about 80 oz of BM donated-counting as 1 item
-2 prs jeans
-6 receiving blankets
-2 hats
-2 scarves
-4 pairs socks
-2 bars soap (fancy)
-2 sleepers
-15 maternity items
-40 toys
-10 misc items trashed
-1 book donated to work
-8 kids pants to friend
-5 items trashed
-10 old magazines trashed
-5 items kids clothes to friend

118 + 1258 = 1376

I doubt I'll get anything more out before the end of the year, although I do have a tupperware I need to take for donation, so I MAY be able to squeeze that in this week. HOWEVER!!!!! I am not discouraged, and am eagerly awaiting next year and the 2012 challenge as I'll have a ton of baby stuff to get rid of, and will also get rid of the rest of my maternity stuff, etc etc.

Congrats to everyone who participated, especially those who made their goal!!! Happy Holidays!

Kelly, wife to DH, mom to Caden Reese (10-2-06), Tessa Brynn (12-26-08 ), and Maddox Quinn (7-16-11). Fur-mama to Finnegan, Ripley, Raisin (my little kitty amputee) and Kimchi. 748/2011, 2028/2012-I did it!! 2023/2013-Again!!! 404/2014

car toy

3 albums

big pile of papers

I wanted to try for 1500 things, but I can't think of much more to get rid of that we don't really want or need.  And as soon as I count up the new christmas gifts received.. I bet we will be back down to 1400 or so.  My partner said it's good we can't find anything else we don't need, because maybe that means we didn't accumulate much in the first place :) I think that's a good way to look at it.

I am so impressed with how everyone is doing.  I am finishing up my end of year cleaning and decluttering.  I hope to find 1578 things in the next few days to reach the 2011 goal.  By the time I am done, I will have kicked out all of the unnecessary, even if I don't reach that particular number.  I want to start fresh on the 1st with the 2012 .  With new things coming in all year, I will be able to stay on top of things.

Good luck, hope to post a new number soon.

433 gone so far

I have less than 30 items to go~!!! So excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is the 2nd year I've done the challenge & I can't believe the difference my home has made. I'm planning one more year & then I should be in a "happy" place!

I don't know what I was thinking when I aimed to get rid of 2011 things in one week.

Unlike my monthly donation trips throughout the year, this last week has been about stepping out of my comfort zone.  Usually the stuff I take is obvious; outgrown, unloved, stuff that is no longer useful to us.  This last week was about seeking out and targeting the tough stuff.  I had no idea how emotional it could be to sort through a bin of toys.  Its always about the regret. What if I need it, what if I can't afford to replace it, what if they resent me for getting rid of all their stuff.  Well, what if I waste another year of their childhood on stuff, period!

Not gonna happen, especially not now.  Thanks for the inspiration!

Plus, they still have plenty of stuff.eyesroll.gif

Yes it sure is hard getting rid of stuff, I think that people that find it easy to throw stuff out are quite rare!  Especially anything linked with our children..their clothes, toys, photos of them, etc!

And I hear you re the regret thing...but I think the bottom line is that even if you may throw out one or two things that you may miss one day, overall you are all better off living in a lighter house with less stuff, so maybe accidentally tossing one or two things that you may even need to replace, is a small price to pay in the long run!

1 used pregnancy test where i *thought* i saw a line from a really long time ago... apparently i did not ever go back and throw that away!

4 unused pregnancy tests - donated

8 misc boxes/papers/unused stick dippers for pregnancy and ovulation detector stuff - tossed

1 tube of very expired cream

6 random unusable screws - tossed

901 - piece of furniture that I got $75.00 for.

903 - 2 books that went with the furniture.

and I have some stuff written down that may or may not have made this list.

29 baby items,

plus car seat and 2 bases to a friend of mine. Can't remember if I recorded that here or not.

stack of old Christmas cards. I cut the fronts off to use as gift tags. That took awhile.

2-3 more pair of pants and a jacket to the upscale resale shop.

maybe 950?

Starting the 100/month challenge today.

Third generation WOHM. I work by choice.
