There certainly is a gadget for everything! shrug.gif It's kind of hard to describe, but it was certainly an unnecessary item!

First off -1 wire cooking rack that DH removed from the donate box "to grill steaks on when the weather is too cold to use the BBQ". You win some, you lose some!

desk lamp

hair brush

umbrella

2 plastic rings

stack of papers-shredded

small plastic container

Ok, I'm not counting things until they leave the house so I have huge piles around my front and back doors currently happytears.gif

But here's what's actually gone:

1 old washcloth that stank

1 huge fake flower that was falling apart

1 expired teething gel that my mother gave us and we never used

1 broken toy piece

1 expired diaper rash creme

1 huge heavy broken candle holder

and recycled

1 outdated map of Canada

total: 7/2011 so far.

Today's additions:

Handed down to friend

-15 items of clothing outgrown by DS and DD

-1 kids book

Took to work:

-2 containers of Xmas baking since there are about 9 of these hanging around

-newspaper from 1976 to show off then recycle

Freecycled

-pkg preemie diapers

New total:  26/2011.

Didn't do much decluttering today - recycled 4 old spice jars (with expired spices in them) and listed 11 dolls for sale - hopefully some of these will leave my house and help with the clutter.
New total with the spices - 186.

I think deleting over 8000 emails is a huge decluttering accomplishment.

That is great...well done.

One thing I am doing this year is just being more frugal....over the last week I just had the urge to go shopping for something for myself, so instead of buying something new, I foraged in op shops and got some really nice vintage things....so if I end up getting rid of them one day, I haven't spent much either!

Late last night, we went to a party thrown by a friend who collects scrap metal for a living.  We brought with us 18 bags of aluminum cans that we'd been collecting for him.  It was an astonishing amount of stuff to get out of the house!!!  And our friend was delighted.

I decluttered my huuuuge stash of art supplies and got rid of a lot of useless stuff. It was so much, I didn't even count I just tossed it. I was trying to sort through it quickly just to get it done, plus Super Wiggy was all "Ooh, let me have [insert item here] that!" and not everything in there is necessarily child friendly! But I cleared a ton of clutter, I promise. I was able to condense another box and a large bag of art stuff into my designated art boxes thanks to the extra room, so there's less clutter surrounding my desk now.

I was totally inspired by the discussion earlier about decluttering email, so I started in my unsubscribes -- 3 email lists in one blow!  Woo hoo!  And more to follow as they arrive...

*small handful of business cards & receipts from old purse

*little tabletop X-mas tree

*bottle of sauce from a friend

Really have to agree with that statement!  That's excellent!

Cleaned off the top of the microwave and trashed     recycled  some old junk mail.  The top of the microwave was hard, there were these little things for items that need to be "fixed" but have been sitting there, in some cases, for YEARS.  Recycled a book that Charlie tore up, kept thinking I'd tape it, and decided it wasn't worth it.

And 7 brand new pens that didn't work... No wonder the package of 10 cost me $0.25... It's not worth spending money on stuff that doesn't work just because it's on sale... wash, rinse, repeat!

Tomorrow a friend should be coming to help go through the last couple outgrown clothes sizes!

Friend came and help... My living room was COVERED in stuff...

Boxed up 4 large boxes of donate items. Friend guesstimated 40+ clothing items in each box for 180+ items.

Then I organized the clothes into sizes and bins and they are waiting to go to the attic!

It has opened up a huge closet space in the girls bedroom and in the playroom closet! Now DH and I can go through the playroom and declutter, organize and simplify!

Cleaned out a kitchen drawer somewhat, things now fit in it!!

30 items trashed or recycled

6 for the thrift

3 clothespins hung on the clothes line

4 nails nailed on the wall to hang up my pretty new vintage cast iron owl trivets (old trivets went into trash, part of count above, they were ugly, these will never get ugly as they are already black metal!!)

Dropped of boxes today full of stuff!

Donated to fundraising book sale:

69 books

Gave to midwifery clinic:

tons of old issues of The Birthvine (journal I'm now editing) - probably about 50 but I"m going to call it 5 items since it's like 5 huge books

Gave to friend:

more old issues of Birthvine - will count this as 1 item

Took to consignment store:

12 items clothing

Trashed:

5 items expired makeup

Recycled:

2 old catalogues

New total  120/2011!

And I also agree about email decluttering.  I did that a couple of months ago and it's so pleasant not to have to delete so many emails.
