Hoarder, deferrer, rebel or perfectionist?

Bit embarrassed to realise that mine is more hoarder than anything, and a little perfectionist too...

I'm pretty sure that I'm a deferrer, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to really look into it.  I'll have more time and motivation then!

LOL! I'm mostly a deferrer with a little bit of perfectionist. DH is a hoarder with a rebel streak. Yep, definitely a problem in the making

I'm a Deferrer for sure.

I like that 20-80 rule a lot: 20% of every job takes care of 80% of the problem, while fixing the remaining 20% will gobble 80% of the job. So true.

definitely a deferrer and to a slightly lesser degree, perfectionist.  I have ADD though so I'm sure thats the first part of the problem!  It was hard growing up explaining to my mom that, no really, I'm a perfectionist!  My room is a mess BECAUSE of that... I have a hard time finding time and ability to focus so I procrastinate til I can do it right.

She never connected the dots that every couple of seasons I'd do a HUGE room cleaning complete with getting rid of things and rearranging furniture and even dusting.  I hate dusting!  but if I was going to clean my room... I was going to CLEAN my room :D

I am realising that my 16yr old DD is a deferrer/perfectionist too. She also does this with her room, about 2 or 3 times a year!

I have the same mix  in my household. Should we start a support group? I've just decided to lead by example with DH. I'm not even going to deal with his stuff until I've dealt with my own. It's working a little bit but I really have to hold my tongue about ANYTHING of  his, lest I activate the rebel!

deferrer to a tee.  i literally think/say, "i'll deal with that tomorrow," like . . . constantly!  and all the things they described that pile up for me, exactly!  weird . . . orngtongue.gif

Total deferrer, with a bit of hoarding. Actually my husband is the hoarder but he'd say the same thing about me biggrinbounce.gif No margarine containers, but I saw wrapping paper, and shipping stuff, to be fair I actually do end up using most of that stuff. I'm going to pretend it's not me and it's really my lack of adequate storage. Is there a category for in denial?

Major deferrer, fairly major perfectionist, and a bit of hoarding thrown in. Hoarding runs in my family, though. In my mom's case, I don't think it's insecurity as described in the article - more a belief that throwing anything tha can be used away is being wasteful. For my part, I think I have a bit of that, and I just...inherited it from my mom and dad.

I'm currrently decluttering. I have five pairs of old pants - torn, stained, unwearable, and some of them are 15 years old. It's making me feel like a wastrel to throw them away, even though they mostly live on my bedroom floor and/or push my usable pants out of my drawers. *sigh*

We should totally start a support group! thumb.giforngbiggrin.gif
Unfortunately leading by example works with limited success. And asking to "please put away a screw driver" or "can we get rid of this box you never open with the stuff from 15 years ago" totally activates the rebel. lol.gif

I SO get you about activating the rebel. That whole - you have 3 days to open this box or I'm getting rid of it? OMG the drama! My husband is actually a better organizer than me - he would have to be with that amount of stuff - but he keeps so much!

I'd have to say the perfectionist. I don;t wanna even try to organize something if I can't get it just right.

Another perfectionist-deferrer! My problems  with clutter started after moving in with DH, as I wasn't in control of our stuff and surroundings like I was on my own (I was minimalist even then). So it was like, it's never going to be perfect, so why try.. I totally procrastinated cleaning because it wasn't going to be good enough. And DH hated cleaning because it always made me mad. Getting DH into decluttering and minimalism a few years ago  ( we both read Karen Kingston's Clear your clutter with Feng shui, and it was really great though I'm in no way into feng shui!!!) was the turning point, but there were some serious lapses of judgement along the way too. We are now finally at a point where I'm confident that this is solid!
