Isn't it pretty?  Thank goodness the gigantic mirror was falling off the wall.  So glad we took it down.  And the painted cabinet took forever but turned out really well.

It looks like your FB photos are set to private (or friends only...)   I'm looking forward to seeing them, though!  :)

AAACK!  I'm technology challenged.  How do I fix?

Ok, think I fixed but not sure.  Can others see now?

Thanks everyone.  Painting the cabinet was easier than I expected and turned out so much better than I hoped.  If anyone is thinking about it, I say go for it!  You won't regret it.

Wow, that made a HUGE difference! The room looks so much more "now" than it did before, and much less builder-grade. Fantastic. It really makes me want to get into my bathroom!

It looks great!!  Have you thought about painting the frame of the mirror to match?

LOL.

I purposely bought a black frame to tie in with the black granite so the granite wasn't the only black thing in the room.

I gotcha : )

We are actually getting ready to paint our kitchen cabinets!  I'm really not looking forward to that project, but I know how much I'll love it once it is done!   I can't imagine having my kitchen torn apart for more than a couple days!!!!   Any tips or advice?  Also what products did you use?  Thanks!

Oh gosh, doing a kitchen will take forever!  It took me about a week to do the cabinet because I did 5 total coats.

Here's what I did:

First I took off all hardware and got the drawers/doors off.

Lightly sanded and cleaned with Simple Green. You can do a fancy degreaser that is smelly and hard to work with or, just sand and use Simple Green unless there's a lot of build up on the wood.

Did a primer coat of Kilz (the original, oil base) with a cheap brush because I hate cleaning oil primer.

Let dry then lightly sanded and did Simple Green again. Though this time diluted.

Did 4 fricking coats of my cream trim paint. I just use Semi Gloss Behr. I did add Flotrol to the paint to help with brush strokes. This also thins it out - without I probably would have been able to do 3 coats. I did very thin coats, let dry at least 24 hours between coats. I sanded after the first coat then said to heck with it and just painted. Paint WITH the grain.

I had originally planned to do 2 coats of poly but I really liked the finish of the semi gloss and only had satin poly on hand. Since this bathroom gets very light use I decided to risk it. For a normal use bathroom (and especially for a kitchen!) I would have done 2 coats of poly, sanding lightly after the first coat.

I used my angled 1 inch Purdy super duper brush.

I let it dry about 3 days before reinstalling. I also bought new felt bumper pad thingies for the inside of the drawers/doors.

What did you do on the inside of the cabinet? I'm working up the nerve to get started on the bathroom cabinets, all of the trim in the house, and the kitchen cabinets. It's a little overwhelming. I do have the paint chip picked out, though. :)

I didn't paint the inside.  It is just the bathroom after all!  LOL.
