I was looking at the 2011 thread and I thought it was very inspirational... but then I started thinking that I wasn't sure if I even owned 2011 things.  On further thought, we probably do.  For clarification, I'm not counting things like, individual sheets of paper, or toy blocks, or food items, or things like that.  But I couldn't even begin to estimate how many things we DO have.  Does anyone have a rough estimate or anything?

I'm going to actually count, I think (yep, I'm bored, and our apartment is small and we're paring down).  I think I'll do one room a day.  So for the moment here's my tally of the living room:

2 bookshelves

7 wall decorations

2 rugs

1 chair

1 cat condo

2 stools

1 throw pillow

2 plants

1 printer

2 vases

4 lanterns

1 stereo

1 drum

1 folding chair

1 modem

211 books, not counting library or kid books, yeek

1 power surge thing

1 electric kitty piano

2 felted dolls

2 file folder things

Grand total - 244

(without the books: 33)

Amazing how even just from looking around our room, which actually looks pretty empty when you walk into it (for lack of furniture I guess) I can already see a lot of things that I'm going to start paring down tomorrow in anticipation for our newest upcoming move in 3 weeks...

I'll do some more inventory-ing tomorrow.  I'm not sure if it interests anyone but it's pretty eye opening for me, despite how minimalist we seem compared to what we've seen friends, family etc. have, we still have so much!

Anyone else can feel free to join in IF you feel like counting things. :)

Oooh, cool idea.  I think I'll join in!

1 futon

6 pillows

1 afghan

4 bookshelves

1 plant

1 radio

12 framed photos

2 tables

3 lamps

5 pieces of pottery

2 wooden boxes

3 figurines

1 vase

3 candle holders

1 rocking chair

2 dolls

3 rugs

1 framed poster

1 metal wall art

1 cube organizer for DS's toys

21 toys

1 foam mat with alphabet

1 bin of little toys

1 dog bed

Not counting all the little toys that stay in the bin or the books, I have 78 in the living room. Total with books would be about 278, but DS just got up from his nap, so I can't count ATM.

Oh gosh..don't know if I wanna post on this thread yet...since we are in the process of minimizing stuff at the moment....but I guess I'll tackle the living room.

1 couch

1 loveseat

4 pillows

1 throw

5 hoops (2 adult size, 3 child size)

1 wall print

1 lamp

1 digital photo frame

1 dvd storage box

1 wine cabinet

1 picnic basket

1 bookshelf/entertainment center

1 TV

1 DVD player

1 XBox360

1 charger for XBox controllers

1 teddy bear

2 binders

2 storybooks

4 cardboard DVD storage boxes

4 storage cubes that fit the shelves

Up on the plant shelf I also have:

4 canisters

1 tray

2 decorative plates

Total of 43 things...

I'm not counting the wine bottles or wineglasses in the wine cabinet. Nor am I counting the cables hidden in one of the storage cubes...and I'm still in the process of weeding out two of the storage cubes of the papers inside them and the final cube full of cookbooks. Three of the DVD storage boxes are actually empty though, and the final one just has loose recipes to eventually sort through.

Despite my not counting the interior contents of a few things though, it will soon not matter...as the TV, DVD player, XBox, and assorted cables and accessories will soon be sold and the bookshelf either moved to our home office or sold as well. Some other stuff will be weeded out as well. Then we will simply have:

1 couch

1 loveseat

4 pillows

1 throw

5 hoops (2 adult size, 3 child size)

1 wall print

1 lamp

1 digital photo frame

1 dvd storage box

1 wine cabinet

2 decorative plates (inherited from DH's grandmother, so can't be weeded despite my not caring for them)

Grand total will then be (not counting wine bottles and wineglasses)...19 items!!

Married to my computer geek since 11.04.06. Mama to our little dude Bug (born 7.14.09, peanut allergy, asthma) and our rainbow baby girl Sweetpea (born 4.14.13). Forever missing my angel babies--Riley, Paisley, and Waverley!!

Decluttering my life...

This would be an interesting experiment, but in the time it would take me to count things, I am sure I could get some more decluttering done so I think I will avoid the urge to count!

Also as I reached over 4000 things decluttered last year and this year have already gone over 1000, I think this house is still a bottomless pit of stuff.....yikes2.gif

ooo fun!  I'll join in :D  Wait... do I have to include the closet?

Living room:

1 wool area rug

1 couch

1 loveseat

1 table

1 music player

4 remotes

1 tv stand

1 tv

2 lamps

1 child sized chair

1 dvd player

1 wii

1 wii fitness board

1 cable box

1 motem internet thingy

1 vacuum

1 wind chime

2 curtains

3 blankets

(26 items)

The closet however has:

2 dead laptops

1 dead printer

1 new printer

1 rug cleaner

10 hangers with an assortment of stuff off them

20? dvds.  don't feel like counting...

4 wii acessories

3 wii games

1 basket

(43ish items)

69 or so items total for the living room and the closet in it.  I didn't feel like actually going through the closet but that is probably very close to the truth.
