Must admit I find it quite tedious listing stuff on ebay. but I am feeling motivated this year to recoup some money and get more minimal round here at the same time, so I am going to persist.

Yeah I definitely admire your patience and persistance - listing things to sell, taking pictures, shipping, it's so tedious that I never do it anymore.  Often my partner picks things out of my get rid of pile thats headed out the door and he puts it on his desk to list an ad for. Then it sits in the office for months. I certainly don't feel like I have time to list ads.  I'll only do it for things worth over $25 or so.  Anyway, the point is I wish I had your patience.

Just made a Goodwill drop off!! YIPPEE!!  Luckily Goodwill is less then 2 miles away which makes drop offs easy.. I'm doing a HORRID job of counting items as I throw them away or put them in the donation box so I'm guesstimating 20 items added to those boxes I already had..

Grand total: 260/2012

Thanks...I went off listing things on ebay at one stage, after listing some things for 99c and they actually sold for 99c! I was heartbroken posting them off, but you have to take the good with the bad. I no longer list anything at 99c after that!  What has helped is that it is now free to list things for sale, and you only get charged if your item sells. So I don't feel restricted by working out what is worth spending money listing. Plus I don't work outside the home, so I have the time, and we really need the money currently, so needing money is a strong motivator!

Random trash x10

Items from first aid kit x2

Foggers

Bunch of ancient coupons (counted as 1 item)

4 knitted soakers mailed out

Stuff from files x6

Tacky hat

Disliked hair clips

Sudoku book

374/2012

I went to Staples to turn in an ink cartridge for recycling (I count clutter when I assign it to go out, not when it actually does, so this was part of an earlier purge that just never made it out). My husband said he was going to ask me to get dry erase markers, but now he didn't need me to because I had given him two I found when decluttering yesterday. Win.

I also got rid of my notes from a Lit Crit class I took in 2003. Now having completed a completely unrelated advanced degree and getting a job in my field, somehow those don't really seem so relevant.

Starting late here, but better late than never, right? We have a 5x10 storage unit that needs to be cleaned out and we're moving sometime this year. I need to start purging!

Today:

15 pieces of clothing

5 cloth diapers

1 Christmas ornament (I found it on my bathroom counter, where it's been for weeks.)

1 hair straightener

1 broken computer mouse

8 hangers

1 laundry basket

1 box to put it all in!

Posted some textbooks for sale last night on craigslist.  Hoping some of them sell.

Goal is to clean out the bathroom vanity today.  I have stuff in there I haven't touched in 4 or 5 years.  Needs to go!

Inspired by this challenge, I listed a diaper cover on eBay and it sold today. I listed a few mire things yesterday.

Threw away some things from the back yard so I'm up to 65.

I'm still enjoying my decluttered top draw!!

So I made it through the drawers of the bathroom vanity and I decluttered:

tossed:

2 old sponges

2 venus razor plastic "hang in the shower" containers

expired activated charcoal

21/2012

On their way out, but not in the total yet:

ebay:

18 hair clip claws (why did I have so many when I never wear that kind of thing)

Took photos of 7 different dresses (3 still with tags on) that I am going to work on listing on ebay.  Money, money, money!

In the last hour I've added another 22 to the pile.  Been a slow week so far, but we got new towels for Xmas, so as soon as they're in the dryer I'm going to sort through the old ones and add them to the pile to go to the animal shelter.

DS starts therapy on Tuesday, and we'll have a therapist in the house 5 hours a day 5 days a week moving forward, so I'm hoping that will give me more time to do other stuff, if DS will let me out of the room.

I've really been struggling with where to take stuff too.  I finally discovered there's a local non-profit that'll take donations of kids stuff for needy families (they don't charge the families), so all the kid clothes and toys are going there.  Most of the rest will just go to Goodwill.  DH is getting on my case for not just throwing more stuff in the garbage, but I really feel badly doing that if it can be used by someone else.

I am struggling as to what to do with my craft supplies.  Goodwill seems like a silly place to send that stuff.  Anybody found a good place to send it?

In my town there is a place that uses craft supplies for kids with disabilities to create art.  Schools might also be willing to take your supplies.

Set of fabric markers

Stuff from files x8 (today, my student loan/financial aid documentation from undergrad)

Disliked sunglasses

Trinkets x4

Random trash x1

Novelty baby bib & spoon (a present from a well-meaning friend)

Magazines x14

Crappy plastic folder

Crappy hangers x5

410/2012

I gave the fabric markers to my church's Sunday school program, and this might be a good destination for other art supplies (someone asked about this upthread).

I have noticed a shift in the way I approach things to keep and things to toss. I used to keep so much stuff on the grounds that it was perfectly good and I might use it later, but now I'm realizing that there are plenty of "perfectly good" things that I don't actually use, or if I do use them, I have way more than I need. I don't need to keep the cheap plastic hangers that come with clothes from the store when I already have lots of better-quality hangers, for instance. When my husband gets done putting the baby to bed, I'm going to ask him how many wooden spatulas we really need.

Good point....we need to put ourselves first, and stop providing a resting home for 'perfectly good things'.

I had to LOL about the spatulas, as we have a few too many also...and now I prefer to bake using the non wooden-handled ones, that I can toss into the dishwasher.

Cleaned out the shed yesterday woohoo! But actually discovered that everything was just really badly thrown in there, so once I fixed things back on shelves etc. I didn't have a huge amount to declutter :)

30-ish random shed things - binned

1 item ticked off mental clutter to-do list (clean out shed)
