My total from the other day and today is 83. Not the 100 items I was hoping to achieve, but.. 2 of those items were HUGE! 1 massive sofa and 1 large animal cage gone. :)

Love, love, loving the space!

I forgot to count another 22 items that were sitting in the car boot that DH dropped off today!

105 / 2013. broc1.gif

Going to do a little bit more today. Some sentimental stuff like old school uniforms, baby shoes etc... *sigh* I hate this category.

I'm back from my decluttering for today..

80 items!!!!

80 baby items that I felt the need to hold onto for memories sake, are now going to clothe other little babes this autumn and winter. Warms my heart. It was sooooooo hard at times, just folding that onesie and putting it away into the 'black hole' bag (as I've so aptly named it).. but it had to be done.

And now excuse me while I joy.gifjoy.gifjoy.gifjoy.gif

I'm going to take the road less travelled.. Acceptence and designating a space for DH's stuff worked for me. I came to realize that my husband wasn't on the same path as I was, when it came to simplifying and that was okay (each to their own, right?) In order to not go insane, I told him that as I was mostly responsible for the family home's maintenance and cleanliness, I would organize it as I see fit (this includes any decluttering). He didn't mind and said that was fine. I gave him time to move any thing from the house that he didn't want donated. We also decided to designate the garage as "his". Nothing for the house/family sits there except our deep freezer and he can keep anything he wants there, whether or not *I* want it around. It's his space - His rules. He is also solely responsible for it's cleanliness and tidyness as part of the deal. The arrangement works quite well and as of late, he has been hinting at how he is thinking of getting rid of X or Y, because it would be nice to have the space.. Where did this talk come from? It came after he watched me declutter the house and he realized the value of it.

Obviously this approach won't work for everyone. But I thought I'd put it out there. Clutter bothers me significantly on a physical and emotional level, so it wasn't easy.. but he is his own person - I can't dictate what he can and cannot do with his stuff unless it is causing a hazard (i.e. health hazard or fire hazard).

I also wanted to add: If he refuses to do anything about his clutter and you have no space to designate as his own, then perhaps some practical organization / storage that will contain the clutter, could make the situation a lot more tolerable.

LoveOurBabies : that is definitely a more mature approach. I should probably take a breath and be a little more rational about the clutter issue.

New total : 915 of 2013
Paperwork, china, old lotions n stuff, hubby went through his tool box and garage items

Almost half way there!!!!!

Four big garbage bags packed to the brim, sitting in the boot of the car ready to go. Wheeee!!

I just hit a thousand! I am so excited and just can't believe how much easier it is to keep my house tidy.

And where is all this stuff coming from? I think of I had more time I could clear another thousand in a week. But wouldn't we all like more time.

I keep thinking it would be nice to pack up essentials that were important to us then get rid of the rest! That would be easier than picking through things.

I finally got my husband to help put Christmas stuff in the crawlspace so the foyer feels so tidy with all the stuff gone.

Oh that one felt good. Took one of the boxes of old kids clothes/shoes etc, and sorted into charity bin, give to pregnant friend, keep (one dress I need a bit of time to let go) and a couple of possible eBay lots. Ended with 2 tied bags to the charity bin, 2 bags to my friend and one box gone.

Going to say that was down about 30 items.

Oh and I listed 3 things on eBay, so fingers crossed they'll go soon too.

And I'm not sure is counts, but I chopped most of my hair off and donated it to "Little Princesses" (make wigs for sick kids). It was really long and I fancied a change. Feels really nice now.

So 257/2013.

So we're still getting rid of stuff but Easter happened and for some inexplicable reason most relatives went way overboard - when did Easter turn into Christmas 2.0?! Add in the fact that DD's birthday party is a week away and I think I have to start purging her stuff too :-/. I don't know if we offended people by not bringing Easter goodies but since I started purging, every item I see in the store conjures up not only how much food I could buy with its price but also how much space it would take up and where would I store it. since I wouldn't buy said item for us, I think I shouldn't inflict that upon other people either. I guess I'm saying my thought is to give people space in their cabinets and room on their shelves for Easter lol. Maybe I'm just stubborn and cheap orngtongue.gif

space in their cabinets and room on their shelves .... i hear you there ... we attended our local expat Easter Bonnet Parade .... the newly elected president of our local association asked us to hang on to them until December for their planned cabaret ... that's not what i had intended (takes too much space !!!)

besides, i had to give back to DD2 her furry toy duck i had sewn at the front of my baseball cap & i should think that we will need our baseball caps (without all their decoration ) for the forthcoming summer !!!!

am sure she has a house with a lot of un-used room (children having left the nest) whereas we are a flat living family with young children.... who never want to part with ANY toys (and a room full i'm supposed to purge drastically in the next two weeks ...)
