Springshowers and Clutterwarrior; they're in cahoots with the unnamed individuals who put a rubber octopus in DH's lunch bag and a tiny plastic cupcake in my shoes :-p

OLD TOTAL: 326

Pulled out 31 small kitchen items my girls asked for and mailed them out along with some Halloween candy. :)

I am still collecting stuff for donations in a large box, but progress is very slow. I'm just tired of dealing with the massive amount of stuff in this house.

NEW TOTAL: 357

729 things gone & $286.75 recuperated in 2014
2852 things gone & $2098.11 recuperated in 2013
3445 things gone & $2201.34 recuperated in 2012

These last few weeks I've gotten rid of so many random, small, useless items. Mostly trash, but some to donation or recycling. I've lost count of how many things have gone, but I'm going to put it at 30 (it's most likely double that at least). I'm finding myself just speeding through the decluttering and organizing right now as christmas is around the corner and I really want to have this house prepped and in good order for christmas. We've not had a "christmas" at home for two years now (due to remodelling) and I refuse to make it three in a row. We have not finished remodelling.. we've been on the tail end for several months now. Just waiting on the big clearing out of stuff before we can lay the floor. I'm going to make it happen this year! I must. :nod

Tonight we're going through 13 year old (rolleyes.gif) dinosaur computer boxes and prepping them for the recycling plant tomorrow. :)

This weekend I plan to:

Finish filing/shredding/recycling every last paper. Believe it or not, we still have papers lurking around here.

Pack away the contents of those three boxes sitting in my lounge room

Get rid of those dinosaur boxes

I need to get back on the wagon! The house is driving me nuts, the hand me down bomb went off throughout the downstairs and the toys are getting ridiculous. I need to ditch an ikea chair in the worst way but hubby is sentimentally attached. It takes up a third of our family room and simply catches clutter but never gets day in. Any ideas?

Pack away half in bins to "rotate toys" and put it out of your way for a few months. He will see how much nicer it is and appreciate how he doesn't miss the toys.

Even better pack away even more to rotate in 4 lots or something and see how great a clear space feels. If you have that much you probably need to be extreme to make a difference.

Save actually giving some away for another day.

I've completely (well, almost completely) decluttered my wardrobe! I must havd 50 itens in it now or so (dp has way more than i). Now i'm following Springshowers advice and tackling the paper monster. How can it get so out of hand even though i'm always decluttering?

Right now i'm starting to panic thinking of the gifts we'll get and all that huge amount of stuff that seems to crawl into our home around the end of the year....

200 out of 590. Need to speed! Today i dont work so i'll try to declutter some more stuff!

i need to start again on Monday when the kids return to school

had an un-expected eye operation early September  & other medical appointments in October

.... on Thursday afternoon i was franctically searching for a screening test letter i had received a few weeks beforehand since i had to visit the doctor for one of my children (kill two birds with one stone) & it took me one hour ... i saw some mis-placed-not sorted mail from last May

... i thought i had that one in good order with a concertina upright file with 10 different color pockets, and usually i do put away mail that need to be filed in it quite straight away .....

obviously, every time there's a little something that upsets me, all my poor little organisational skills crumble away for a while

so now, i have two months left of the year to make it to 2013 ....

Is there any other place you can put the chair in the mean time? I would remove it from the immediate area for now and re-evaluate at a later date. I hope you get the hand me downs under control soon. :Hug

Congrats LoveOurBabies!

Part of the agency where I work is doing an altered book project with their kids so I got to give away all of these small items that otherwise I would have put into the trash.

60  little items to the book project - these included: decks of cards with missing cards, figurines to games no longer played, dice, half sets of dominoes, miniature Halloween decorations that have seen since been replaced

5 magazines donated to book project

1 windchime

1 tupperware container

18 items of clothing - all to the goodwill

Congrats LoveOurBabies!!!!!!

I'm at 1,486 and I feel like I don't have much left to do. Then again, I've avoided the unfinished section of my basement due to my fear of spiders.... I'll have to buck up and go through that stuff if I want to hit 2013 smile.gif

I haven't posted in FOREVER.....but I've been diligently working on purging. I'm going to give myself 400, though I know it's well over that--I'm probably 'done' for the year, but not going to stop! Going to make it a point to count the rest of the year!!!

Another 11 pairs of shoes have left. I was completely lacking in energy and motivation this week, so not much had been done (and nothing on my list from last week has been completed).. but I was so sick of staring at that shoe corner and went a little ballistic on it!

I also rid myself of a broken pot, a broken christmas ornament and some other misc items that I can't remember now. I'll just count it as 3.

Today was semi-productive! I got rid of another broken (had intended to fix) display as well as over 150 papers (shredded and recycling). I also put 16 books in the 'get rid of' pile. Woohoo!!!!

I'm not done yet, but I had to document my progress before I forgot :lol

OLD TOTAL: 357

Threw out 28 items (sample creams, pens, mugs, cups, other random things)

Donated 106 items (kitchen stuff, clothes, shoes, toiletries, alarm clock, router, etc)

NEW TOTAL: 491

I am really lacking motivation here. There is a whole room full of boxes I need to go through and I keep procrastinating on getting started. I have been reading a book on clearing clutter an online friend has recommended and I get all excited to get to it while I am reading, but then walk into the room and kinda freeze. I just need a plan of what I want to keep and how I will store it. *sigh*

The only thing that motivates me is a deadline. What would you like to use the room for? Is it a guest room? If so, perhaps putting the week before christmas as a deadline would help. I feel for you mama. If only I could post pictures of how my house was for the first year that we lived here. We had narrow pathways to get from one room to another. We also had two mattresses to sleep on. The rest of the space was taken up by boxes and furniture. I was pretty much at wits end with zero motivation to even start purging/sorting/packing. The only way I got through it all and purged practically 3/4 of the home's contents was through setting deadlines. I wanted a particular area cleared by christmas/easter/a child's birthday and would work on it that way.

Good luck mama! I know you can do it :thumb

I've made more progress and are becoming ruthless with decluttering. Items I thought I "couldn't" part with are sitting in the donation bag. I know it's cliche, but it's incredibly freeing to give it all away.. I am blessing someone else AND breaking free from spending my days accumulating and caring for possessions.

I feel like dancing :joycarrot.gif :joy

22 items gone and 97 papers I no longer have to stare at.
