We are moving to a smallish (1200 sq ft) home in a few months. We have been living with family for a while so this will be our first place for just us: me, DH & 1 yr old DD. I want to use the space wisely, only have necessities, and a minimalist type of decor. We have to buy almost everything, all furniture, everything in the kitchen, all appliances, dinner wear, towels, whatever. We don't have anything. This is fun to plan but also a little overwhelming as I'm not sure what we need. Does anyone know any blogs or websites specifically geared towards minimalist living/decorating/setting up house, or something along those lines? I've been searching but mostly only find photos of minimalist design in rooms, not ideas and personal stories, such as "my house contains this and that".
Apartment Therapy is one of my favourite sites for inspiration for living in small spaces. It isn't all minimalist but there are a lot of creative ideas for all sorts of styles.
I won't label her minimalist because she and her son share a very small home and she needs to fit their necessities in that home but I love her organizational ideals and clean decorating style.
I second apartment therapy. Especially check the "Small Cool" contests from past years. These are pictures from real people homes and there is a lot of inspiration to be found. I found also the house tours so useful.
http://www.rethinkingthedream.com/ This family sold their big house in the suburbs and got rid of a lot of stuff (kind of the opposite of what you want to do). I loved reading the earlier posts while they were going through the process.
1200 sq ft is a great size! We just bought a 900 sq foot home and it feels just right!
