Joining in here! I have a TON of stuff that needs to go. We're planning a move sometime later this year so I desperately need to downsize. I'll be attempting to take my overly cluttered and messy home to a minimalist move ready stock of basics. If I do this properly I should have way more than 2014 items :(. Getting started today big time as I sort clothes and start cleaning now that dh left back out for work. I want to do some MAJOR work around here and have things much nicer in the next couple of weeks since I'll be alone with the kids as he works off for a month at a time now. I really need this house in better order to manage to keep my sanity with this new schedule.

I did the same when I moved last year and stopped counting at 1200 because it got ridiculous how much I got rid of! It was the most amazing thing.

I'm in a similar boat: moving later in the year and would love to bring the bare minimum for a fresh start and manageable move/unpacking.  I will be moving either when very pregnant or a new mom so it is almost a necessity.

Good luck!

Wow sky you definitely will benefit from getting started decluttering now then! I hauled stuff off to the donation today. I'd already bagged the stuff up before yesterday so I don't have a count but I hauled off 6 over stuffed kitchen bags plus two Walmart bags of Christmas supplies and a Christmas tree. I am starting to collect more items today. I feel a ton better since getting that load out of my house plus now I have somewhere to store the new store I collect until I can haul it off. I don't know what to count the stuff as but I guess we'll say 25 items per bag since I'm pretty sure there's at least that much in each of them but I KNOW there's a lot more than that in a couple of them. So 8*25=200 + 1 Christmas tree gives me 201 items out of the house  today.

20pcs clothing- donated

2prs holey shorts- textile recycling

Excited to be over 15% there now.  This weekend I will be boxing up all the baby clothes/ cloth diapers and giving them to my sister.  They will not be coming back to me since DH and I are done having babies.  Bittersweet to say the least, since some of those diapers and clothes have been worn by all 6 of my littles.

I find when I am counting for a declutter challenge I can get rid of things I would otherwise keep. I threw out a stained tank top (it still worked under something but I rarely wore it) and pants with a small hole two days ago. I had been thinking they needed to go for over a year!

am the same ... have to "think about it" for ages before actually parting with things ....

my goal this year is to try to get to 200 items for each month (... therefore making sure i'll get to 2014 this time !!!)

am ambivalent about writing precisely what each item is (sometimes it works for me, sometimes it seems to make things even harder .....) but printing that grid with 2014 boxes to cross off, that's definitely made a difference already !

At the beggining i thought that listing everything would be really motivating but it turns out most days it's not. At all. Lol

I'm having a hard time finding stuff to declutter and some days i barely make it to 6 or 7 itens. The good thing is that my home is pretty much decluttered and DP seems to be getting the hang of it. I have a slight tendency to stock on toiletries so i'll try to focus on that today.

I'm a list maker by nature.  I big puffy heart making lists :stillheart  So listing everything I'm getting rid of naturally motivates me, but I wouldn't expect everyone else to operate that way.  I also don't expect everyone to read my lists :wink

That said, for me, sometimes seeing other people's lists gives me ideas of things that I can personally go through in my home; things or places I may not have even thought of going through.

Make it your own, keep track of it however you like, just GET THE STUFF OUT!!

I have a journal in my online penzu.com account for writing down the items.  It helps me to write things down, but sometimes I will just say 20 items trashed from xyz.  I use T for trash and D for donate then use the list at the end of the year to calculate donations for taxes.

At work, the 2014 grid helps and the listing would be too cumbersome.

Same here.  It helps me to get ideas and to think, "Oh yeah.  I have one of those too.  Why am I keeping it?"
