I am getting up there.  Trying to decide how to reward myself when I reach 2014.  I think I will give myself a crafting day where I don't plan to get anything else done the whole day.  I am not good at relaxing so this will be a treat.    I have been counting little things as 1, but I find that motivating and have discovered a lot of the clutter is trash (not gross trash but papers and packaging I don't need to keep).  I will probably reach 2014 before I feel I have finished the major areas and things I want to go through before baby gets here, so I plan to start over again.

Does anyone else have a reward in mind when they reach 2014?

off to a slow start, but i had a baby in january, so i'm giving myself a little grace ;)  -- i am proud though that i am giving up recreational spending for lent. i've never given anything up for lent, but i thought this was the perfect time, since i'm on very limited income with maternity leave, and it gives me renewed focus on getting my stuff up for sale!

We rented a cargo van this past weekend and completely decluttered our back deck and more of the house.  For some reason we kept most of the boxes from moving into our home, 6 years ago :dizzy  We're talking over 200 boxes!!

We also trashed a mattress/ boxspring set that was in our shed for 6yrs from the previous homeowners and some landscaping junk left from when we regraded our backyard.

250 itens gone this past weekend

Just wanted to check in and say that I'm still decluttering, just not counting the items anymore. Surprisingly, I found it started to work against me in recent weeks and I would sit there thinking of how many items I had wasted instead of how many items I no longer had a need for. So I just stopped. I now look at an item and decide if it's worth my precious time and effort in taking care of. I find most things aren't, unless they have an immediate payoff (such as a tool, much loved piece of clothing, favorite toy etc). I've packed a lot of stuff up to go.. about 5 full garbage bags worth. They're all going to various places - animal shelter, general donation, daycare etc. The house is looking better each day and I'm happy with my progress! :)

Still putting things together and listing items to sell.  The nice thing about decluttering is finding stuff that you've been looking for, like my favourite pair of sunglasses or the freezer packs for DS's school lunch and snacks!  Also been putting away items that should have been put away ages ago.

Instruction manuals--good declutter!  I'm going to try and find the instruction manual online when I buy new things and save it in an email holder that way I never have to keep the actual manual.  I find they really add up to a big pile that rarely gets used--but there is that what if I need it?  in the back of my head.

Starting to pick up speed again, so much to do before the baby is here both in terms of clutter and other preparations (due in 2.5 months!).

22 items, mostly easy to identify trash--consolidating baby items to more permanent containers/homes so got rid of 2 cardboard boxes, paper trash around the house including the bottom of the entry closet.  I have a pile of baby items given to us by my SIL that she said to consign if we don't want (crib bumpers, decor that is not my style, non BPA-free stuff) .  Not sure some of it is consignment-worthy because of updated safety recommendations.  I will be getting rid of it one way or another, but will count it when it leaves the house.

haven't posted in ages,

have been doing better at decluttering a little at a time (= with less anxiety)

and also had 2 or 4 longer dedicated sessions with papers& clothing (+ it helped that i lost weight and donated bigger clothing too !)

so i'll give myself a credit of 125 (which is lower i'm sure than what i did but since i didn't keep track precisely ...)

so that brings me to a total of

425 out of 2014

and i've updated my paper version decluttering chart (i like the visual effect of keeping track on paper, i can see that i'm nearly a quarter done for the year ....)

hoping to tackle a lot more in the next few days ....

I reached 2014!  I counted each little thing, but that was most motivating to me.  My goal was to reach 2014 by June so I am happy about the progress in numerical form.  I feel like I need to get rid of 10 times 2014 still.  I would probably feel better if our condo was not stirred up with a room redecorating project that required pulling all the stuff from one room into another.  lol   At least there was less stuff to move around though!

To work:  23 pencils, 20 packs of pens, 4 professional books,

Donated:  20 composition notebooks, 14 books, 2 small toys, 1 mini accordian file, 4 brag books, shake flashlight

Trashed: 37 things

2036/2014

$187.56

starting over again tomorrow...new goal is 2014 by December with more stuff/less obvious trash than before.

Thanks, Isa.

I began the new set today.  I am aiming for at least 1 out of every 10 things to be a substantial item rather than receipts, packaging, and similar obvious clutter.

So far...

1 old pillow

9 trash from the bedroom and bathroom
