totally commiserating about the yarn ...although, in a way, i consider my "investing in so many skeins" a months ago ... as a way to help me meditate //process thoughts whilst knitting when i have hard times about this or that event in my life ....

hoping to finish a pram/car seat blanket tonight (same two very large skeins mentionned a few weeks back, have already got out of them a baby cot size blanket done/finished)

Hi everyone....I desperately need to jump on this bandwagon. I've needed to declutter for ages now and it's become overwhelming. We tried having a huge garage sale....sold only four items. I found a place to donate clothing and it goes directly to the local community free of charge. I donated four skirts there and they seemed really nice. So, I'll be heading to them with more stuff. We had about five extra plants that we couldn't find room for in our garden....put it out in front of the house free....people snapped them up Put out 2 of my daughter's barbie type houses in front for free....NO ONE wants these things. Ended up in trash. Now to get rid of books!

So far: 15 items for 2015

I mainly sell books on Powells.com, there are a few other sites out there but most of them are more textbook focused while Powells is everything- like a regular bookstore. In fact it's been so long I can't even remember the other sites. The biggest downside is that in order to sell them you have to type in the ISBN of each book. They'll tell you which they'll take and for how much. Shipping is free if you print off a shipping label. I've taken to typing a list of ISBNs and copy & paste the list to the site. If I'm not in a hurry to get the books out of the house I'll re-input the list a few months later and see if they're taking any new ones.

Thx. I took a look and it seems like you have to set up a paypal account??? Do you just put them in a regular box for shipping?

I cleaned out the attic this past week and got rid of a TON of paper. We had taxes and all kinds of paper going back to the last century, old utility bills, expired licenses, etc. Must have gone through a thousand sheets. Now to tackle the office which is WORSE!

During my cleaning I found some things that needed to be chucked: one bra, one old threadbare pair of pants, a totally stained mattress pad and 3 old wire hangers.

The attic was boiling hot, but we had a lot of memory land pictures, too.

Yeah I think to get money back you need a paypal account, you can also do store credit & get more which I usually do. And yes you just pack in a regular old cardboard box, tape the packing slip on and send it off at the post office. I've never had any problems from Powells.com but I did have my last shipment stolen in the mail on the way there. Also for the post offices sake (and my own) I keep the boxes small, books are heavy!

Yarn folks, I'm kind of a yarn fiend myself but I tend to only crochet around holiday times. Do you always buy new yarn, or will you use stuff that's been in storage for an eternity?

I try to use what yarn i have first but if the yarn I have doesn't fit the project I buy new. That said sometimes I dig through and get rid of some (usually gifted stuff that has no appeal to me).

I've met my goal of 2015, with 6 months left I'm debating whether to make a higher goal (to what then?) or to start on next year. I've been decluttering further but having a goal motivated me to toss rather than keep. Thinking maybe I'll do a second round through the whole house room by room. This place is strting to stay clean by itself!

I crochet all the time, i tend to thin out my yarn via my yarn club and donate to others what im never going to use or the leftover bits to the kids of one mom in particular. STuff thats been around for ages? If its stuff that all acrylic, id donate it, now if its merino, silk, alpaca etc- the really good stuff, id use it no doubt.

That's my thought....my yarn is pretty cheap and it's gotten stuffy from many years in the closet. I'm trying to gauge whether or not people would even use it.

Have you found that the more expensive materials are not as strong as acrylic? I rarely use expensive wools, but I did make some blankets for my children. It's only been a couple of years, but the wool is breaking and the stitches are coming out. I've done a number of repairs.

yes indeed, i now always use acryclic for babies & children .... so far only one mom came to me .. about 12 years after i made the blanket, still very much used as a comforter by her son, so that i would do a few stitches on one side ...
+ i like the fact that they can be tossed in a washing machine at 30 or 40 °C (= with most family laundry loads) after a quick rincing and soaping to get rid of vomit/urine/poo or mud ....
AND acrylic dries quickly too !!

now, i've just tossed 4 expired food items from my pantry, so that's 4 out of my 6 for the day ... i MUST make an effort to post "something" every day so as to get back in the habit ...
