Anyone else do this? The goodwill store I like is about 40 minutes away, so I hate to take all that time and gas to go unless the trip is really worth it. What i do is every other month or so, I set a date with myself to get out there. Then I'm so motivated to go through and declutter everything, get the stuff out of my house, because I don't want to go unless my trunk and backseat are full of donations. I'm planning to go sometime later this week, so I've been a decluttering maniac for a couple weeks now

Just wondering if others also have to give themselves a kick in the ass like that sometimes or is it just me?

I am also into giving myself a kick in the ass . I also set a date and out it goes. I found that like you- I would do that but sometimes the stuff would sit in my car so now I call a place that comes to me to pick it up. I do it every quarter and every time I always have a pile. The sad part is the drop off for good will is literally 3 blocks from my house but I still arrange a pickup or it will not get done.

My neighbor also does this and there are times when I would piggyback off her pick up. I would shout at the guy to come over to our house and they would take my stuff then and give me a receipt. :

I do it by calling the Salvation Army, and setting up a date from them to come. I better be ready when that truck pulls up.

having a date definitely makes a difference. i'm trying to do some mega decluttering in time to donate my stuff to the garage sale benefitting the animal shelter that i am involved with. i have about 2 weeks. without a deadline, my to do list never gets done.

on a side note, the one problem with this method, versus taking a bag to the charity once it gets full, is that you have to look at all the stuff hanging around in boxes and bags for a couple of weeks. ick. i wish we had a garage.

Oh see I'm GLAD we don't have a garage! This crap would *never* leave my posession if we did :LOL I've heard of having the pick-ups scheduled too, but I don't think we're in the right region? It's so far to any of the major charities, I don't think they'd hike their butts up this mountain to get my couple bags of clothes, y/k? But of course, there's also the fact that I like to poke around the store : I know, I know, it's just more stuff to take up space! But I'm still losing the pregnancy weight and seem to constantly not have clothes that fit. No way am I paying retail for something I'll wear for 6 weeks and then it's too big.

Actually that's another reason I try so hard to get the stuff OUT. As soon as something is baggy on me, it's gone. This way when the numbers on the scale start to creep back up I have to do something about it, because I can't just pull out the 'next size up wardrobe'.

We've also decided we're moving in the spring/summer at some point. That's some motivation I tell you! Now when I look at anything, I can ask myself, do I love it enough to box it up, move it(taking up valuable truck space), unpack it, find it a home at the new apartment, and deal with it all the time again? Much better to get the tax receipt.

Anywy I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who has to set arbitrary deadlines for myself in order to get this done. It's always nice to know you have company in your habits I guess.
