Does anyone have simple cleaning rituals? For instance, several times a day I pick up/put away 10 things. I usually do it while my tea water is boiling in the AM. If I am going out, I put the kids in their carseats and run back in and do it. Often, I do it while online as I dislike sitting for so long. I do it again before bed.
It seems to keep the house fairly tidy. However, I do not strive for a perfectly clean house.

I do a similar thing. I will clean the bathroom while my little one is in the bath. One day I will do the floor, the next the toilet, the next the sink, the next the mirrors. Throughout the week, the bathroom stays moderately clean.

I make an effort to take the dishes down to the kitchen, or clothes to the bedroom, or bills to the office, etc., etc. whenever I travel from one room to the next. Even when I am holding my little girl, I usually have a free hand to fill up.

I always try to move the dishes from the sink to the dishwasher everytime to need to make a trip to the kitchen. The trick is to do this frequently and not let them add up to more than a few at a time.

And I am lucky enough to have a great boyfriend that will hold her while I race around putting groceries away, vacuuming, folding clothes, and other things.

this is good. I need more of these Clean as You go things. I'm at the point where a breakthrough for me is actually folding the towels, not just stuffing them on the bar!

Third generation WOHM. I work by choice.

Ya, cleaning as you go works wonders!! When the house is a mess it's way harder to get anything done and so easy to get overwhelmed. I also do a lot of cleaning after my daughter goes to sleep at night. And since she's not walking yet, I can put her in her swing and talk to her as I am folding clothes or cleaning the kitchen! And of course, I get all my internet time as I am feeding her too!!

I do dishes while the boys are eating breakfast or while waiting for water to boil or while dinner is in the oven. I move things from one room to the next as and up and down the stairs often as I go there. I throw in laundry whenever I use the downstairs bathroom. I do alot of kitchen things when Wy is in the highchair (eating or playing). I pick up toys and clutter about a zillion times throughout the day.

After all that my house is still a mess (DH is a terrible slob and a lazy one at that). But alot better than it would be if I wasn't doing these things.

I do one room a day all week, i was trying to do all the vacuuming one day and the dusting one day and it just didnt' work. So do 1 room a day, my bedroom is always done on a day that dh is off work b/c he works nights and i useally do the laundry and clean the laundry room that day as well since they are by eachother. I will do the kitchen another day as with the livingroom and each of the kids rooms and i do both bathrooms in the same day!

As for the toy clutter i have a small bucket in they kids rooms if they want to bring toys into the livingroom they can only bring what they can fit in the bucket and then pick it all up before they can bring more out. It works great as for their rooms we do a pick up the room game with flash lights every night before bath time.

I clean the bathtub and shower while taking a shower

This is just one of the ways that I feed my cleaning madness!

Since I've had kids I've learned to clean as I go (not that I always do). I havent had that just cleaned the whole house coz it's Saturday morning gleaming home in 10 years! It's always OK, never sparkling clean. As long as I wouldnt die of embarrassment if someone dropped in on me I'm happy.

I do the put 10 things away thing and I also throw 20 things away per day apart from just normal rubbish like food scraps. It's amazing the junk you accumulate.

i sure wish i had cleaning madness. i just tend to let things get really messy but i dont want to pass on this bad habit to my daughter so i have learned to clean as i go, or as she eats, goes potty, etc. i shoudl add that this is made possible by two things i learned from MDC - one is - let her eat by herself (so i can do other things during that time) and 2) EC - and in fact my keeping busy actually helps her stay focussed on her job.

also, recently i decided to substitute my morning prayer time with housecleaning. i figure it's the same thing.

relaxed-unschooler mama to dd (2003). hoping for second one. love being a mama!!

I've divided the house into 4 zones and I go tidy/clean 1 zone a day.

I like the zone idea! I might just have to steal it.

This is probably not something you were looking for, but this is a ritual that I do *after* I'm done cleaning a certain room. I light a candle in it. It's my peaceful completion sigh, and then it leaves that room smelling great.
