I have discovered a stash of 5 vacuums in my hall closet. All of them have been repaired several times and none of them work well--I'd get better results quicker if I crawled on hands and knees picking stuff up!

My question is what should I do with them? I really don't want to shell out more $$ to get them repaired, I'd like to get one new one that works. But I don't want to just put them in the trash either.

Any ideas?

If you put them out with your trash, someone will pick them up. If you add a little sign that says "repairable condition" they may go even faster.

I would also try freecycle as a first option.. then you can add a little info about them. If that doesn't work, maybe you could set them out with the trash like a pp suggested or list them for free in your newspaper? (Ours allows free listings that are for free items)

Donate to a shelter or somewhere that helps family's get back on their feet, they can fix them up and give them to needy people.

Thanks for the ideas. Since ds goes back to school tomorrow at the YWCA, I will ask them if they are in need. If so, I'll cover the repairs so they go to good homes. Otherwise, out to the curb on Tues. with a little sign.

Call your local vacuum repair shop and see if they want them. I just did that for my broken vacuum because I couldn't bear just throwing it in the trash, and I was surprised when they got all excited and said "yes".
