Inspired by Annakiss!

It's so, so much easier to keep clean now. I can't believe it! The kids still have a lot of toys but not as many as their friends. Since I reduced the toys down to just the things they enjoy most, they are playing with them more.

Also, turning off the TV has helped everyone. I don't waste as much time and it's making the house stay cleaner. I clean while I listen to NPR. When I had the TV on I would find myself sitting down and watching it in the middle of cleaning. So that has been a big factor in keeping the house orderly and clean.

I love it! So bright and uncluttered. I like the tile throughout as well, it's not common where I live (most people with hard floors have wood here).

We also cover the TV...I just think they're ugly, but it also cuts down on DS asking to watch it. It is actually in a corner, behind a chair, with a throw over it. The only time he watches TV is if he happens to pick out a video at the library--then usually sometime that week he will get a chance to watch it, if he asks to, but our library has a 1-week limit on videos so often he doesn't watch them at all before they get returned (he usually forgets to ask).

We are still paying off the tile, and will be for another two years. But totally worth it as far as keeping things cleaner and helping with allergies. I actually wanted Pergo-type floors but dh insisted on tiles because he had tiles/marble flooring when he grew up in India. Now I must admit it feels very cool in the summer but it's brrrr! in the winter. Luckily our winters don't last long.

Throw rugs? The kind that are small enough to throw in the washer could work well--we have them in our kitchen, and they have non-skid backing so it's not a hazard for little ones.

Wood floors can get chilly too but a little rug next to the bed is nice.

Yeah one would be nice getting out of bed, and one in the bathroom, too. We have one small area rug in the livingroom and it gets so dirty with kids that I have to shampoo it about once a month.:

I recognize IKEA everywhere! Love me some IKEA. Can't wait until a store opens in my area.

Oh, my DS was looking over my shoulder and when he saw your daughters room he said, "oooohhhhh, I wanna move in there."

Yep it's from IKEA and we got it on sale for about $100. The crap is in the garage. We have reduced it down to about half so far.

Beautiful
I love your bed! and the wall color is the bedroom. My bedroom is the worst room of the house. Everything is shoved in there. ugh I want a lovely calm peaceful room like yours.
You are my inspiration for the day, thank you.

I love your house and it seems like you live such a clutter-free life. I have that much stuff in each room it seems! Argghhh.... I love your place though. How did Annakiss inspire you? To show off your home or to clean and organize it? What was it like before it got so tidy and clean? May I ask, what are the security reasons you mentioned for not using the front room? Your house seems so nice, is it not in a good area? Or do you just not like the idea of having the children far from your bedroom? By the way, I've seen tons of queen beds offered up free on Freecycle, not to mention dressers and other furniture, I think you might be able to easily and freely furnish that guest room, if you haven't tried already. (assuming you are in the U.S...and I didn't check to see where you are...)

Darshani, it looks wonderful! I've seen bits and pieces before, but never the whole of it. I'm so glad I helped you to declutter and organize (and post your tour!). It looks like you have very little "stuff" and like it's really liveable. Way to go!

I read this Too Fast and thought it said "but not as many friends." I thought you had decluttered some of their friends!

I noticed your TV was covered with a textile. I have wanted to sew a cozy for my bedroom tv because its presence is intrusive. Did you sew a cube or did you just drape a textile over it?
