What types of things to you consider worthwhile to store? This kind of goes along with my previous post about keeping kids clothes/diapers. We have purged and purged our house down to just a small storage room in the basement...but I still feel like it's too much! We are still thinking of a possible move to the mountain cabin (less than 200 sq. ft) so I've been thinking about what is essential.

Right now, we store:

*Sporting goods such as wakeboard, skis, snowboard, etc. (this could be considered garage storage I guess)
*Christmas/holiday decorations...this is my biggest debate. I would be fine getting rid of almost everything. I'm not a big holiday decorator. I am content just buying some cheap white lights and fresh greenery every year and string popcorn and cranberries. I've already gotten rid of our fake tree and ornaments. And the bazillion snowmen my mom has given me over the years because one time I mentioned that I liked them. Oh....how I despise "collections"!!
*Photos...these will be kept. We purged about 3000 photos a few months ago. Pared it down to one small box of photos, wedding album, etc. So much is digital now...we can just store it online and print as needed.
*DD's outgrown clothes and diapers (largest amount of bins!)

Other random stuff, but those are the main boxes.

So, what does everyone else do? What do you consider "worth storing" from year to year?

Not much anymore.

Camping gear
Christmas decorations (these could be purged a bit, now that I think about it)
DH's beer brewing equipment
DH's collection of disks from his college days of playing ulitmate frisbee
1 bin of quilting fabric and notions
My wedding dress (my mom and grandma wore that same dress, so must be kept)
Photos (though less and less now that we have digi's)
Clothes for kids to grow into (I am a big garage saler, so I have about 2 years worth of future clothes for the kiddos). This is 3 bins worth.

It sounds like a lot, but it is really quite tidy on 2 IKEA shelving units.

way to much, we need to go through it and get rid of some stuff.

the wedding dress post made me remember i need to get my dress drycleaned so i can sell it..........it has no sentimentalvaule, i didnt feel good in it, its not the "one" and we are in debt with a creditor now for the remaining balance of it. if we renew our vows, i'll buy a new dress, thats not made for a wedding lol.

- Outgrown kid clothes/diapers (we have four bins of them! I have no idea if we're dong having kids or not and I'm sentimental, so I'm having a difficult time parting with them)
- Hand-me-downs that the kids will grow in to
- Camping gear
- Decorations (about three boxes of Christmas stuff and the kids' Easter baskets)
- Bikes, kayak, jogging stroller, fishing stuff (DH's)
- DH's tools (we have no garage at the cabin)
- VHS tapes and CDs (would like to transfer all of the CDs to ITunes and donate them, but I know DH won't have it)

Gah. :

Wow!!! I have four boxes of photos from our pre-digital era. So many of them are crappy snapshots, but I'm unsure of how I feel about parting with them because even with blur/bad composition, they do capture a moment. I definitely *need* to cull them because at the rate we're collecting photos, we're going to have to take out a storage unit to hold them all and that's ridiculous.

Do you store photos in albums? Scrapbook? (I almost think this needs a separate thread--photos is a huge area of clutter in my life.)
