8 things from the bathroom
1 ratty old dog toy

Plus I pulled dozens and dozens of items to sell or donate, and put together a big box of FFS stuff for someone. But I'm not counting things until they're actually OUT.

My goal: 250 items.
So far: 50 items -- just went thru the house to finish filling the third bag. Mostly baby clothes & books so far.

How many baby clothes should I keep?
We're not sure if we want to have another baby. Should at least keep the super cute high quality stuff. Donate the hand-me-downs and so-so quality items. Would hate to have to start from scratch. How long to hang onto these things?

This is always really hard for me. We *know* we will have more kids...at least one more, at least, because I'm pregnant...so we do have to keep some things. It seems that every time I go through baby clothes, I take out more to get rid of.

Once, I took all my baby clothes, dumped them on my bed, and went through them as fast as I could. I had four piles on the floor: (1) definitely keep, (2) definitely toss, (3) unsure, (4) missing pieces (this is where I tossed a single shoe, when I wasn't sure where the mate was). When there were no more clothes on my bed, I bagged up the "toss" pile to donate, without giving it a second look. I sorted through the "missing pieces" pile and made matches if possible; everything that was still unmatched after I sorted the entire pile when in the trash, because it was unusable. I folded the "keep" pile and sorted it into large Rubbermade tubs to store in the attic (sorted by age group...0-6m, 6-12m, 12-24m, 2t-3t, etc.). I sorted the "unsure" pile AFTER I had folded the "keep" pile for storage, so I could clearly see how much I had for each age range. If I was unsure about a 2T sweater, and my 2T-3T box was very sparse, I kept the sweater. If I was unsure about a 0-6m sleeper but my 0-6m box was bursting at the seams, I got rid of it.

This process was not as time-consuming as it sounds. The trick, for me, was to do it as fast as possible, and go with my first instinct.

I didn't make my goal for January (maybe because I didn't start counting until about Jan.21st), but want to give this another whirl for February. This really keeps me honest about actually driving to the Goodwill with bags of stuff and actually listing things to be sold online. If I don't have a monthly goal I'll just procrastinate.

Okay, goal for Feb. is 100.

Cleaning off my desk. Halfway there, and 80 items gone!

OK, that's more of a : than a : . I had a LOT of crap on my desk -- disks, cds, papers, toys . . . I didn't even count the fiddling little stuff I got rid of.

Halfway there!

Someone picked up our old paneling!!!! It was about 5 shhets of it, counting it as one. But, they also took a lamp that was susposed to go to another freecycler today Has that happened to anyone? Of course that other freecycler said they would be here in teh morning, and it is noon now, so I guess you snooze you loose? I really want to know what people want with old panneling though. Okay, I want to know why people want more than half the stuff I put on freecycle...:
So adding two to my total and hopefully the other freecycler comes when I am gone and doesn't look too hard for the lamp...

850/2000

Got rid of some extra baby stuff. Extra sheets, lap pads, mostly random things. Also more stuff from the kitchen, bowls, strainer, pans and also some out of date meds and extra health type stuff to donate. Also, OT but I organized the closet in hopes of finding a place for everything. I made a space to put the diaper bag and carrier so they aren't just floating around the house all the time.

900/2000 I'm rounding again b/c I'm tired of losing count.

I got rid of 50 items today. Man that felt good and I did not really push myself to get that done. I got rid of several pieces of outgrown clothes, some kitchen do dads and paper which is a downfall of mine.

I am reading a Feng Shui book about decluttering your space and now I have 3 focus areas to work on.

50/350.

was 35/300

now 95/300, got rid of 60 books and vhs tapes for thrift store. I can already think of the things I will get rid of tomorrow: magazines in my night stand, sold some stuff on ebaY that I need to mail, return 2 things to Wal-Mart (there goes my 8 days since I've been there, I swear I am not going to shop, just exchange), need to work on some office boxes that still aren't unpacked (6 months after moving in!!!!!).

I'm going to try for 300 items in February. I want the entire apartment decluttered and organized before the new baby gets here, so I need to get going. Not to mention I need to get the baby clothes washed and find somewhere to put them, and I'll have three dozen diapers showing up on my doorstep from my mom when she finishes them :

I just went through our filing cabinet! I'm one of those nut cases who likes papertrails, so I was throwing away bills from 2+years ago: Anyway, I also got rid of tons of my undergrad music stuff, I'm going back to school for nursing in May, so it isn't likely I'll need that stuff! SO I didn't count every little piece of paper like I intended, so I'm conservatively going to give myself 150 items, (I know there were many many more!) SO I'm almost half way done! Maybe I'll finish my closet tonight!!!!

I'm in! Can I do this in conjunction with the Kitchen Challenge? I'm planning to purge a lot during that...

My goal...hmmm...is...

-10 bags of "stuff" (anything) to be given away

-4 bags of clothes to be given away or sold for cheap

-5 bags of papers to be recycled or shredded (I know that sounds nuts, but I am a major paper collector, a habit I'm desperately trying to break!)

I'm in too! I already decluttered a bunch when dd1 came around a couple of years ago, but a lot of it ended up in storage where it really isn't used or needed. So, here we go! I'm reusing all the clothes for dd2, due at the end of March, but there is a lot to do still. Mostly dh stuff that I will try to sell on ebay or craigslist. Not sure about the numbers yet
