Tomorrow is trash day- there is a mountain outside of our home!!! I set aside as much as possible to give away and/or sell, but there is still so much trash! Oh well, I know I should feel bad about the trash, but I am so glad to not have it in my home anymore, I just don't :

You know - I'm just sort of going through the house like a mini tornado. I feel like I should have some plan, but at least I'm getting rid of crap, yk? Last night I got a hankering and cleaned out the cupboard where I keep my Tupperware-ish stuff. I had a bunch of glass jars in there that I recycled, some lids that I tossed, some things that I don't use anymore that got tossed. It felt good. All in all I had:
1 bag of trash
1 bag of giveaway
1 bag of recycling

19 items are sitting in a trash bag in my car waiting to go to the consignment store today.

The best part is that most of them are toys that make noise...so I'm decluttering AND making it a little quieter!

I am at almost 300 items for my garage sale-my goal was 100! I'll count them as soon as they're out of the house...hopefully by this weekend. I haven't even started on the big stuff yet like furniture.

Add to that a box of baby stuff for my best friend. I'll count that before I give it to her.

I finally got around to finishing up my linen closet and is sure is pretty. Now I need new linens to go in it : I also managed to start to clear off all of the paperwork my spare bed in the office. But that is a neverending project that DH always complains about... umm.. maybe if he knew how to file he could do it himself as it is mostly his little ziplack baggies full of recipts!
Anyways I can bump my total up by 54 more items and one of my project goals is completed (the linen closet) and have the kitchen left (half way though) as well as the bathroom cupboards. Oh and I went through DS winter clothes and am donating whatever didn't get used at all so that's another 12 items.

173/500

ETA: I cleaned out the junk drawer and got rid of 47 items... all junk, imagine that.

When I told DH my goal of 10 bags to Goodwill he, without any prompting, went through his closet and pulled out a bag's worth of clothes to get rid of!!!

I think I need to up my goal to 15 bags. That makes me at 5/15, but I have 4 more bags packed and ready to go in the garage and I haven't even tackled the crafts closet yet.

I went through my old recipie magazines and cut out all the ones I wanted to keep and recyled the magazines, but I still have to file the recipies into my recipie binder.

Mostly sane mother to twins.

You can count it either way. We all pretty much make up our own rules to fit our own situations. My advice-count each one. It'll make your count go up fast and motivate you to keep going!

Yesterday I got rid of 198 items that are going in my garage sale. I brought them over to the house where the sale will be, never to return to my house! I have 42 baby outfits plus some other things that I haven't brought over yet. Then I filled another bag with sale items plus a coat and a sleeper. My original goal was 100 items in the sale, so I am VERY happy!

Then, I started assembling a box of baby stuff for my best friend and I have 10 items in that so far, but can't count them until I give them to her. All in all, it was a pretty productive day.

DH is even getting into the swing of it. I challenged him to find 25 items from the garage and 25 from his closet for the sale. He so far has about 12 from the garage...plus he's thrown out over 40 things! I'm just not going to tell him that I get to keep ALL of the money from the garage sale!

So far I'm at about 700/2007 for the year.

DH and I have been SO productive over these last few days! I lost track, but I know that I far surpassed my goal of 300 items gone.
I had so many old billing statements, broken toys, ripped books, etc. that just had to be tossed.
I filled up a HUGE box of things for our yard sale that we should be having in May sometime and freecycled a few things just to get them out of here even faster. It feels awesome

I took all of the expired vitamins and supplements DH has collected over the years to the pharmacy to have them properly disposed of and containers recycled. 16! of them! Most looked like they were still 3/4 full and very very expensive! Good thing I wasn't around him when they were purchased, at those prices I would have rammed them down his throat daily! Most expired before I was in the picture too!

I'm so excited! I got another half to 3/4 car load full of stuff off to St. Vincent de Paul today. And I also have two medium containers and a large trash bag full of stuff for the Vietnam Vets to pick up on Tuesday. WooHOO!

If this keeps up, our house is going to be rather empty. I can't wait!

I have one huge bag (one of those bed in a bag bag's) and 4 boxes full of garbage headed to the garbage.

I'd like to change my goal though, I just want to make sure that my room is as decluttered as I can get it by the end of the month! i've got a good start and all my clothes are now hung so I'm on my way.

Krystal- I keep all of my Mothering magazines, but that's it. It's the only subscription that I have but other magazines seem to make their way into our house and I read then recycle them.

2 broken VHS movies tossed out
8 or so into the yard sale box
lots of outgrown clothes into the yard sale box

DH went through the cupboards and gathered all of the tupperware that we're trying to get rid of. Most were totally mismatched.. I can't believe we've held onto them this long :

Over the past few days I collected one bag of trash and one big giveaway item. Today, I found 7 bigs things to throw away and three bags of trash! As for magazines, I've been going through them, too. I went through all my food magazines and pulled out the recipes that I want to try and tossed the rest, I got rid of all my other magazines except my craft magazines. It sounds like I had a ton of magazines, but I didn't have too many!

don't feel bad ya'll i have at least 3 big rubbermaid totes full of magazines . some are at least 15 years old. i have years and years of music mags. parenting mags, mother earth news, real simple etc. the last time i did a major magazine pure was just about 10 years ago.

i did the same thing i'm doing now wich is pulling out the articles i want to keep and collaging the words and images. (i call myself treasure mapping but i haven't properly aligned it with the stars (laughing at myself mind) )

i am so proud of what i did yesterday . i went to the flea market and what didn't sell i actually took straightaway to good will. a whole truck load of stuff. and my gagrage looks so much nicer and i don't have to do another yardsale or fleamarket trek anytime soon!!!!!

OK, I made another Goodwill run yesterday and I am now 16/15 on my goal of 15 bags to Goodwill. I have a small house, which keeps me "honest" about the crap I can keep. I'm still amazed, though, at how much random junk has been tucked into corners.

Mostly sane mother to twins.
