"Quick breads" are pretty easy to make, taste yummy, and often freeze well. Soda bread, banana bread, and applesauce bread are all quick breads. Make a few loaves at the same time and freeze some. They make great gifts or munchies for all those holiday moments.

Check out http://southernfood.about.com/od/qui...ad_Recipes.htm for a bunch of quick bread recipes.

Freezer meals...I like to grill up and slice chicken breasts (put the raw chicken in a bag with some lime juice as a marinade). They freeze well, thaw quickly, and can be used to top a salad, tossed into a tortilla for a wrap/fajita, chopped into eggs or quiche, served over rice or beans, etc. Chili is another great freezer meal and mac/cheese or lasagna work well too.

I love baking but do not freeze too much.
As the pp mentioned quick breads freeze well. Also, pumpkin roll is a nice fall or winter desert and it freezes pretty well. PM me if you want the recipe. (In case you’ve never had it - like pumpkin cake or bread with a cream cheese filling. You roll it and cut in into spiral slices. It looks much more difficult than it is.) I also have some no-fail easy desert recipes that can be whipped up with items you can store in your pantry. I keep the items on hand and if I know someone is stopping by I can make them the same day or the night before.

regarding cleaning & lists - we've been out of town so I really need to catch up!

Thanks for the ideas for freezing stuff (more ideas welcome, too!). I'm making lasagna tonight for the first time. Hopefully that will go well!

As for the rest of the Grand Plan... hopefully I'll get the porch done tonight when DD wakes up; we can do it together. I placed wanted ads for things I'll need this season (decor, rugs, outdoor stuff), and have gotten a couple responses already. We are also going to tackle the garden area as well. Unfortunately, I need DHs help for some of this stuff, and he's sick and working tonight, so no help there... We'll see how it goes!

My carry-over list is getting out of control!! I'd love to knock out an entire week.

Week 5 – Master Bathroom
• closet purge – (It’s really part of my bathroom.)
• clean light fixtures
• clean & organize cabinets
• organize linen closet
• remove wall paper – this is ambitious
• paint – also ambitious
• replace countertop – completely delusional
• scrub and whiten floor grout
• wash window
• turn older towels into rags

Holiday Prep and Lists still pending
• make & freeze a few holiday goodies (I actually prefer baking during the holidays – it is part of the whole mood.)
• make & freeze a few holiday meals
• go through purchased gifts and figure out what remains to be bought
• prep gifts needing to be shipped
• drop off donations
• make Christmas eve menu
• take card photo

Carry–over items:

Week 1 - Front Porch
• sand & paint the front door (This was last year’s project!)
• replace burnt out light bulbs in house lights and landscape lights
• split daylilies, iris, lambs ears, & coral bells
• trim woody shrubs – will have to wait until late Sept
• install new ‘fish’ landscape light purchased at an art fair

Week 2 - Living Room
• vacuum the drapes (I’ll take them down & have cleaned when we paint)
• dust ceiling fan

Week 3 – Foyer/Entry
• dust mirror, pictures, bench, chair and desk
• wash the windows
• scrub grout ???
• I’d like to paint the oak parts of the staircase black – but I have too many partially completed projects already
• clean light fixtures

Week 4 – Master Bedroom
• closet purge – (I’ve been doing a lot of this but want to eliminate even more.)
• clean light fixtures
• detail dusting
• wash dog beds
• organize drawers
• vacuum & air out rugs
• wash windows

Kid's room... sigh. I suppose I should be happy since the nursery is pretty small, decluttered, and 99% of the time unused but after thinking the bathroom would be easy because it's so small...and still not being done...I'm not sure I can handle another "small" room.

On the slow-but-sure end of things we took down the front door and stripped it! So we're closer to getting that item crossed off the carry over list. And we've decided to paint the bathroom floor so that's my excuse for not mopping/sanding in there!

Week 6: Nursery
--wipe down walls
--vacuum and mop
--empty closet DONE
--empty under bed space DONE
--weed through dd1's clothes and "restock" for winter DONE
--go through dd1's books and see what to rotate DONE
--repaint window trim
--put up window film

And the carry over/done list:
Week One: Front Porch
--wash down porch pillers and railings (sorry spiders!) DONE
--dump and refill dd's sandbox with clean sand (and no "china" toys) DONE
--remove garden produce (super sized zucchini must be processed!) DONE
--clean porch chairs and table DONE
--remove dead stems from hanging ivy plants DONE
--install new porch light fixture (has been sitting in a box on the porch for months)DONE
--finish painting porch ceiling (has been half done for over a year) DONE
--sand & stain front door (another "over a year and still not done" job)
--find a new welcome mat

Front Garden:
--trim holly bushes DONE
--remove dead stalks from hostas DONE
--tie up climbing rose DONE
--secure loose downspout

Week Two: Living Room
--organize dvd collection DONE
--remove visible clutter, organize shelves DONE
--dust shelves and remaining "nick nacks" DONE
--wipe down couch, armchair, ottoman, side tables DONE
--clean windows and glass on the entertainment unit DONE
--clean molding and woodwork (ick, I hate doing this!) DONE
--paint dd's toy storage dressers
--install anaglypta ceiling paper
--clean out ceiling lamp shade
--wash curtains and steam clean rug DONE
--mop floors DONE
--wash bamboo blinds DONE
--reduce dd's toy collection, organize her books/art supplies DONE

Week Three: Foyer/Entry
--frost glass in the front door DONE
--clean woodwork (ugh) DONE
--clean staircase, especially between the spindles DONE
--weed out summer shoes/"dead" shoes from shoe tray DONE
--vacuum rug and upholstered benchDONE, mop floor
--organize dd's art table DONE
--clean windows DONE
--repair holes in wall (made when we re-wired)
--cover ceiling with anaglypta
--change seasonal decorations on our "family welcome altar" DONE
--find proper homes for the clutter that washes up in the foyer DONE
--hang some sort of art on the stairwell wall
--replace broken window pane (cracked in corner)

Week Four: Master Bedroom
--rearrange beds (one queen for DH, dd2, me and one toddler bed for dd1) DONE
--rearrange furniture DONE
--dust
--clean woodwork
--vacuum and mop
--empty closet and stock with "winter clothes" (the closet is dd2's) DONE
--go through dresser and restock for winter (the dresser is my stuff) DONE
--move dd1's bed rail DONE
--clean windows
--wash curtains
--remove window a/c unit DONE
--winter film windows

Week Five: Bathroom
--dust from the top down DONE
--wash shower curtains
--remove nick nack clutter DONE
--weed out expired/old/unused products DONE
--purchase or make new towels DONE
--scrub down walls DONE
--scrub tub, toilet, sink DONE (mostly, need to get the sink better)
--finish painting trim (unfinished for more than a year)
--paint floor (forget the sand/stain touch up idea...floor paint it is!) DONE

Half way through the kids room right now. We completely cleared it out and put everything in the craft room. Oh my gosh they have too much stuff. We have rearranged the furniture and cleaned/vacuumed everything. Now we are in the process of sorting everything. It does not go back unless it has a home (either container that goes on shelf, or space on shelf for it), it is working, they play with it, and finally mommy and daddy agree to keep it. It is taking forever to sort through all the little stuff they have.

Sigh... my first week back to work after mat leave kicked my butt! Plus we want to sell our house so we worked on a few "big ticket" fixes around the house. I feel like I'm running the red queen's race...moving as fast as I can just to stand still!

DH is going to watch the girls for an hour or two tonight while I do a speed clean through the "nursery/guest room" and hope for the best.

Plugging away on the carry-over lists. DH has thankfully found himself some motivation (he asked to go to a letterboxing gathering, to which I said "we'll see how we're doing on the list"). Woo-hoo! Now things are getting done in a hurry, for us both.

I have too much housecleaning to-dos to list here, so here's my Christmas prep update: Everything is planned and budgeted, etc. I am in the process of needle felting some food for my younger siblings (ages 2-13), and I'm a bit ahead of schedule, which is good. Also, today we're felting sweaters to use for making slippers for family.

And! DH has been so excited (me too!) about using our foodsaver, he made some delish curry pork and veggies yesterday to freeze. Tonight: chili. We've never made meals to freeze like this, and we're LOVING it. Speaking of freezing food... can you freeze brownies?
