That totally made my day. Thanks!

I'm nowhere on the challenge. I literally don't even remember what my goals were. Even worse I hit a yard sale and a rummage sale AND a Big Lots-type store today, 'decluttering' my wallet of about $45 in the process. :

Bad, bad, bad.

Resolved: to do better this weekend.

Decluttering SAHM of three. Going for 2011 items in 2011.

We just got a couch from Goodwill for the LR. So the old couch goes to DS1's room, one chair goes to the tv room to be set up in the basement, and the other stays I think.

But first ds1's room has to be rearranged so we can fit the couch there.

There also are three desks that need to be moved from room to room.

The reason I listed all that is that for all that to happen ds1's room will need to be decluttered. As will the basement and garage.

Then there are two closets that need to be done.

I'm writing all this to hold myself accountable

you know how your junk drawer is vital but could kill you if you actually needed anything out of it? well i cleaned it! it looks great! organized all the screws and bolts. put everything in little itty bitty baggies to keep them from flying everywhere during the move and threw out old car seat info and hand books about products. if i were to count every screw, bolt, or nail i threw away i think that would be cheating so i am going to guess around another 100 items thrown away.

70 more baby onesies, outfits, bibs, etc.
12 more misc. items

New total: 1159/2000 items
2 boxes of food
1 garbage bag of clothes
1 large box of shoes

Heck I may hit my total just out of DS's clothes DH's aunt & uncle spent way too much on their little one and give us all his "used" clothes. Doesn't look like anything my DD's ever worn. I swear this kid has never worn the same outfit twice. We had over 60 onesies just in 6-9mo size. Yikes!!!

I was good *and* bad today. I went to another rummage sale : and found an amazing four-piece maple wood kitchen set for $40. The church nursery school was upgrading! I couldn't pass it up! It was for a good cause! Why are you looking at me like that?!

So, that was the bad.

On the good side, I went down in the basement and cleaned up the laundry area, throwing away 25 items and preparing at least 75 more for donation Tuesday or Thursday. I set aside another 35 items for my sister but I won't include those in my count because they are still here.

So, 100/100. Time to reset the counter. Let's say 250 more.

Tomorrow we are re-arranging the dining room to accommodate the kitchen pieces. This will involve a lot of decluttering in and of itself. Although I shouldn't have purchased the kitchen, it definitely makes my heart go pitter-pat to look at it and see the kids playing with it, and we will definitely be getting rid of some junk to make it fit, so it's all for a good cause, right?

Right?

What's hard for me is actually getting the things I've decluttered OUT of the house....

We have all that free stuff sitting in a "free" box in front of our house (which is legal and very common in Vermont) but we live on a low traffic street, so no one has taken any of our stuff.

And my DH has snuck out and brought three items back in.

The Salvation Army has announced they aren't taking anything else right now, so I have a big bag of clothes riding around in the trunk of my car...where to take it?

WOooohoooooo!

13 shirts
1 pair of shorts

Goldfinch - It was for a very good cause, and hey, you are decluttering to make room for it, right? (I'm so helpful I know!)

VTmom - Any Goodwills close to you? I also donate clothes and stuff at a local homeless shelter, anyplace like that or a women's shelter? Too funny that your dh is sneaking stuff back in!

2 more shirts

I am in late, but I am in!

6 person family.
Two story home.
5 bedrooms.
A ton of storage space.
Many, many unpacked boxes.
More junk drawers than useful ones.
Stacks of clean clothes, stacks of old mail.
Pet messes...
... and CLUTTER!

400. That is my goal. Trash and free section of Craigslist, here I come!

If I MEET that goal before the month is over, I am making a personal challenge to do 100 more items. If I can do that, then I am rewarding myself with several packs of nice new plastic hangers.

....

to replace my empty hangers from giving away/trashing old clothes, never worn clothes, jeans where when stepped in we can't right away tell which is a leg hole and which is a hole in the knee, etc.

New hangers to replace the old ones. Empty hangers for me to fill with NEW (thrift store is fine) clothes that LOOK nice and help me feel less like a lazy slob (right now I LIVE in sweats, shirts with holes and stains, etc).

36 items from my closet

New total: 1195/2000 items
2 boxes of food
1 garbage bag of clothes
1 large box of shoes

Still working in there. I posted a lot of stuff on freecycle but I'm not sure I want to wait for people to pick up stuff. Everything I've decluttered so far is on my front or back porch. Very aggravating!!

Gathered 20 more items for donation.

Mamas, do you count it when you put it in the bag or not until it's actually out the door?

I personally count it when i resolve to get rid of it, when i move it to the car/garage/other holding spot, and again when its gone (not all in the same month though - but if its a holdover from last month yes)

This month I'm working on papers so this month I'm counting every single piece I touch. Like if its an unopened piece of junk mail and I toss it without opening it then its 1 but if I have to open it and file a portion of it then the paper filed is counted as 1 and the enveloped trashed is also counted as one.

But really whatever keeps you motivated is the way to go.

Last night I started out working on my "temporary files" trying to clear them out, and move those things to the permanent files. Here are my totals:

4 files created
2 files deleted
2 files merged (from 4 to 2)

80 papers filed!!!

15 papers trashed

that makes 103 papers handled last night and I'm down to just 1 big box to go through. Its a massive improvement looks wise too. I am so proud of myself.

I'm at 280/2000 for the month. I may revise my goal. It's funny, I really had no idea how many papers to shoot for all I could see was these two big boxes. So far its been lesss than i thought. And way less intimidating now that I've started.

I had been putting this off for way too long.

100 items for the rest of the month.

(I went through a massive decluttering this summer, so, I'm not sure I have a lot left to declutter! And I took out a bag of stuff this weekend).

Goal is 150 -

Today I've been working in the bedrooms. Sent to Freecycle or given away: 20 baby outfits, toys, play jewelry, 3 of my dresses, 3 purses, lots of misc. old art supplies, maternity clothes, etc. Grand total = 56 items cluttered. Only one small bag of trash to the trash can.

Tomorrow, I'll be working on my desk -- lots of paper to recycle there!

1 electric breastpump and accessories (sterilized, packed, to be mailed tomorrow to expecting friend).
22 odd socks. Some are very odd.
2 old ratty pj pieces. Ripped, stained...an embarrassment all around.
4 plastic cups (trying to rid of plastic - I'm almost completely purged of eating/drinking plastics)
3 sippy cup lids (no bottoms!)
1 sample can of Isolmil advance soy
5 baby utensils (to be sent to above friend)
1 random plastic bowl

Sooooo...39/100...unless I want to be sneaky and count all the breastpump accessories individually...then I'd probably hit close to 100!!!

I'll post some on freecycle, and then what doesn't get claimed...well, it's getting tossed. I'm not generous enough to hold onto stuff for months just to find someone who wants it (although I take bags to goodwill of anything I can, but, I'm thinking that 3 sippy cup lids aren't exactly in high demand)

DECLUTTER: 10/100 items

1. Home office - desk
2. Home office - filing cabinet
3. Home office - 2nd desk/floor/closet
4. Our bedroom
5. Our closet - Started...
6. Bathroom closet
7. Rubbermaid bin in DD's room
8. Bureau in DS' room - DONE
9. Living room shelves
10. Pantry
11. Washer/dryer area
12. Kitchen cabinets

First 10 items all clothes from DS' bureau - some to a friend + rest to Goodwill. In our town Goodwill + Planet Aid both have bins in the Wal*Mart parking lot so you can drop stuff anytime - don't shop there, but drop in the bins frequently. Only drawbacks are no donation receipt + large items do not fit in the bin opening.

So, last night I had a complete freak out about my life. I can no longer stand to live with all my stuff. It's sort of making me crazy. In addition, I want to try to move to a smaller house next year and I'll never convince DH we can do it if we have to move ALL THIS STUFF!

I'm having a yard sale this weekend and what doesn't sell and can't go on ebay/half.com is out of here. Donations, trash, I don't care, but it's not coming back into the house.

I'm starting today. I'm gathering up everything I can find and it's going to the garage for the sale. And I'm starting with the towels and linens from last night's post!

My goal is 500 things by the end of the month. I'll post later today with how I do, counting up the sale pile as well as the trash.

0/500
