I was away for last weekend, then my computer crashed (hmmm, do I get to count throwing out a hard drive tower as decluttering?) so I've not been decluttering so much. Also, the yard sale that was supposed to be today was canceled. So, I'm going to add 150 items back in, b/c they are back in the garage. However, I'm going on a purge in the coming weeks, so I'm not saving anything for a future yard sale. If it can't be ebayed or donated, it's getting chucked. I can't live with this stuff anymore.

I sold the bike trailer and entertainment center that were sitting in the garage. I freecycled a box of kids clothing, a box of toys, a bag of my clothing, some shoes, a box of dishes and silverware, a steam cleaner, sleeping bag, broken microwave, old camping stuff and a box of misc crap that was scattered all over the place. I took an old exercise machine and a broken TV to the dump. I would say that my total so far is about 50 items.

I hope the things I have listed on craigslist sell soon, otherwise the will be freecycled too.

I also have a big box of books, cd's and dvd's to sell to the 2nd hand bookstore.

5 books
9 magazines to recycling
1 wineglass broken (I didn't want to be rid of it but figure it still counts! )
1 ancient travel kit trashed

total for month - 27/155

Still haven't made it into the back bedroom to declutter, but I've been slowly chipping away at papers in my office.

ETA - 3 more books, 3 catalogs to recycling, two packages (book club) returned to sender (gotta work on hitting those reply-by deadlines!) Updated total:

I'm going to jump on this bandwagon! For October here is what I plan to get done:

Organize Pantry-started
Organize all of dd's clothes, put in dresser and hang up in closet
Bag up all Goodwill items an take them to Goodwill
Fold and put away all of dh and my clothing
Bag up all Goodwill items of ours and take them to Goodwill
Go thru dd's books and toys and make a bag for Goodwill
Empty box of blankets and put in chest and closets
Organize my curio

Holy Moly that's a lot to do in 2 weeks but I'm motivated!

Doula mama to artistic DD and monster DS. #3 on the way!

Update on what I've been getting done:

- I took a pile of unneeded things to the swapshop yesterday, and came back with only one small thing.
- My last round of ebay auctions have all ended. I hardly ever ebay stuff, so this is it for awhile.
- Made enough money on ebay to order a Scooba, so I can stop fretting about my horrible, awful kitchen floor and my proven inability to clean it
- Finally went through my INBOX piles and reduced the pile to one smallish drawer in my desk. My goal is to reduce that further to a small desktop box. One thing at a time.
- Pared down my Paperbackswap.com bookshelves and took unwanted books to swap shop

Still to do this month:

- Finish decluttering yard and gardens before winter comes
- Finish all shed and garage decluttering before it's too cold to work in there!
- Move clothes for storage to the shed
- Vacuum out the shed
- List remaining good stuff on TP, Craigslist, Freecycle (and follow up and get them out of the garage)
- Motivate DH to finish mucking out old office (which is now boys' bedroom)
- Prepare for roll-off day (first weekend in Nov our town subsidizes up to 1000 lbs at the dump for a $25 coupon - we have lots to get rid of)
- Declutter laundry room

my yardsale did not go well. What little money I made, I spent on my sisters stuff. But i do have winter clothes for kellen now and I have a chest of drawers for him.

Some of what didn't sell is in the back of the car waiting to go to goodwill and the rest is boxed up semi-sorted by size and waiting to be sold. I put an ad in our local free classifieds. I may not make very much selling by the box but maybe it'll be gone anyway.

I cleaned house yesterday and in the process decluttered a bit as well. I'm going to say 10 things de-cluttered.

Wow, you all are doing so well. I've been collecting things to get rid of, but not much has actually left the house Still, I made a little progress:

Roomba virtual wall
Bunch of old makeup
30-ish old magazines
Little cup of broken mussel shells
Stove guard
7 items of women's clothing (I'm counting individually since I had to go through and evaluate them all

TOTAL GONE = 12/200

Waiting to go to Freecycle/donation box:

20 items of women’s clothing
2 bags of stuffed animals and innumerable little doodads and toys
Shirt to return to Sears
Shoes to return to Target
Box of toiletries from my hall closet

I'll post an updated total tomorrow!

Well I don't have any new stuff really gone but I got DH to haul away a whole truckload of stuff I'd bagged up and set on the porches. Yeah! Maybe now I can recollect and start cleaning out/decluttering again.

I got rid of our dining room table and chairs last night! We were given the set by someone in our church, and it was very generous of them and nice and we have used it for two years, but it was just not my style and too big for our apartment. Sold it cheap on craigslist to a family who needed it, great for everyone. We are using a smaller table and chairs now (that I already have and just like better, even though it means ds has to sit in a folding chair because there are only two chairs that match the table). Moving the small table into the dining room cleared up space in the living/play room. It just makes me feel so much better about our home. I can't believe how big a difference it is making to me. I have been feeling very down about our apartment, because it is desperately in need of paint (and we plan to move in less than a year, so I don't want to paint it) and the carpet and cabinets are old and not very nice-looking. But now I feel like I have really done something to improve things.

My next goal for this month is to post some foreign language books to the trading post (I don't think Russian grammar would sell well at the church rummage sale). This post should put me over the limit to see the TP!

Since my last post, I've been trying to do a little here and there and I got rid of about 50 things. Some paper clutter, some garbage in the fridge, 8 soups that got really gross, a ton of ketchup, mustard and salt packets (82 actually, but I didn't count each one, only each category), a ripped pjs of DS', some clothes of mine, and other assorted nonsense. No matter how much I purge, it never feels like enough.

The week started out slow only 25 items by Wed. But I cleared out 65 items in the bathroom. Tossed out old lotion, makeup, brushes, books, magazines, ect. Which brings my total from 308 to 398. I still have a long way to go but I am seeing a light at the end.

We've decluttered so much that I'm not sure what else I can get rid of! This month is "organize my master bedroom" month, for me. We re-arranged it last night, and organized my craft area. So I guess my goal for this month will be to:

1) Go through my old portfolios and start getting rid of stuff. I'd like to slim my collection down enough to fit into 1 portfolio. I currently have 4 or 5.
2) Go through my fabric and get rid of the stuff I know I'll never use. Get rid of tiny scraps. Cull it down so I can get rid of my beast of a shelving system, and keep it in a few baskets that look nice on a shelf.
3) Clothes! I have so much that looks like crap on me! I need to let it go.
4) Computer stuff. For some reason, we're hanging onto 2 keyboards, an extra mouse, and who knows what else. I have it all hidden away in a cupboard right now. Out of sight, out of mind. But that cupboard could be used for more important stuff. Like the pile of books currently stacked next to my bed...

I'm aiming to get rid of 100 items. Far less than my old goals of 1000 items or more per month. But because we've decluttered so much, I really don't have much to work with here!

I'm making some progress.

2 files of papers, 1 recipe, 1 magazine, 12 scary pantry items, 2 old cheeses, 2 cookie sheets, 1 shirt, 2 bottles of dipping oil received as gifts in the Stone Age, 1 wedding cake topper hand-made by me and falling apart.

That's 24 for yesterday. I hope I can do more today, the month is almost up!

This is an awesome thread! I am new to the challenges, its late in the month, even later in the year, but I am motivated! I want to declutter my bedroom this month by

* cleaning out the closet
*cleaning out the dresser
* hitting a consignment store
*donating the extra clothing

I am not sure about the # of items, it looks like 2007 items for this year is the goal, can I just sit in for the ride?
