I have so much clutter I'm not counting. My goal is 1- 30 gal black trash bag leaving my house a day. It can be trash AS LONG AS it is not our regular household trash. If I am gone ALL day I am allowed a grace day. (Although I'll still try to do it. But usually those running days I'm exhausted.) I have had 2 successful days. : Yesterday I cleaned off my desk and filled a whole bag with trash and the day before I did a laundry marathon and I pitched the rejects into a bagfull for Goodwill.

So your mission is to make sure I stay on track. Thanks!

Katie, mama to Katherine 19, Christian 17, Johannah 15, Nicholas 10, Genevieve 8, Matthew 5, Andrew 11/16/09 10#6oz home waterbirth and madly in love with  my husband, Scott

No problem!! Want me to find something else freaky I threw out?? Breastpump parts? sample packs of nature tampons? over 50 purses? wedding gifts that were never opened?

the list goes on and on....

The problem I'm having now is all this gone and I don't see it! With the yard sale I got up in the storage and cleared out a whole bunch. I went through my closet and got rid of my summer clothes that dont fit. But it has not made an impact on day to day life. I can't stand it! I want the clutter gone gone gone gone!!....

sad

I was just talking to my husband this weekend about simplifying our life. Getting rid of stuff we don't need or use recycle as much as we can. I will tell you it becomes overwelming and I get a little frazzeled. I would love other moms in my area who are good at organization I am not. I can trade Yoga for some help. Aroma Yoga mom to three Cadyn, Roan, Brynna we live in Western MD. Oh ya count me in I think this is a great Idea Thanks.

*REALLY, REALLY* late, but I would like to join! I've been *trying* to declutter/deep clean my house, but now that I've found this thread, it might make it easier! I'm working on DD's playroom now. I haven't got a count, but I will post when I do. I'm going to the mission tomorrow with what I've got so far.

what about if you just work on one (visible) room at a time (maybe starting with your bedroom, so you have a little refuge of clutter free bliss??)

I've started in on decluttering my kitchen counters- like putting away the condiments and such that tend to live on my counters (had to toss stuff out of the cupboards first), and so when I clean my kitchen it actually LOOKS clean and like I actually got something worthwhile done. I also decluttered a little bay window we have over the sink and only put pretty things there- plants and some little decorative items, it makes me smile not to see accumulated junk there! Still need to do more in there, but it's agood feeling to have something to show for your work!!!

Welcome to the new mamas! I really admire that you're jumping right in! I was wondering, with 68-ish? days left in the year, how many items that would be per day to make 2008, and it's only like 29-30! (no holidays off though, lol) And that's if you're starting at zero, so if you've already got some decluttering under your belt, you're way ahead! Go mamas!

thewaggonerfamily- how's it going with the bag a day??

anyway, my stats: last count 1619/2008

24- kitchen decluttering- old spices, random stuff out of drawers, magnet
3 stacks of paper clutter (how do you count your paper clutter, I'm not going to count each page!? although that would boost my count pretty quick! )
=27

1850/2008

We had to move all our office furniture to get the carpets cleaned and the walls painted, so all the files came out of the filing cabinet so we could move it. I'm sloooowly going through them before they go back in and culling a bunch of the old paperwork. So...

7 files paperwork decluttered and recycled
plus freecycled/donated/trashed
1 popcorn popper
1 bag of popcorn kernels
1 bug zapper shaped like a tennis racket
1 hand blender
1 bubble blowing kit
1 plastic container
1 poster
=14

new count- 1864/2008

I'm going to try to help DD1 go through her toys since she just had a birthday. Other than that, it's the filing cabinet and DD2 seems to have just gone through a growth spurt. The garage is a huge project, but I don't know if I'm gonna be able to get to that. We'll see...

I actually did more decluttering today, but it's still in a box in the living room so I don't think it counts til I get it out of the house I can't believe I'm going to make it... the crazy thing is, if we were to really move, there'd be more to get rid of! yikes- how can we own so much stuff???

Thanks for posting StoneFence and loveandmore- it's nice to see the thread still alive!

I consolidated and recycled extra plastic spice jars. I have so much room in that cupboard now.
