I'm on the 2008 for 2008 but a monthly goal is a good idea too!

I am having a hard time finding enough time with the baby to do decluttering, so I am going for another 100 in January. We will see if I can get that!

I have 505/2008 now but I am slowing way down because of time and things to declutter. A lot of the things I am decluttering are for sale, so they don't go away very quickly, you know?

So 0/100 for the remainder of January.

Hubby went through his closet and we are up to 90/2008. A slow and steady train for us. We try to do a little bit of decluttering everyday. Even if it is just five minutes or a drawer.

Oh I forgot, I did part of a drawer yesterday and we are up to 96/2008.

I am going with the motto - Slow and Steady wins the race!

I did one of these challenges a couple years ago, but have decided it is time again. However, I have been better since then about not holding on to stuff so that I don't need to declutter so much . . . or so I thought. I don't know if I want to keep track all year long to go for the 2008, but we'll see.

I started today with our little mud/storage room. We don't use that door and so it just gets piled up with all the crap we want to hide. I managed to knock out 127 things just from that tiny room! 104 of that went into the trash or recycling. 7 into my "to sell" bin and 16 into "donate". And one bag of rocks just got emptied back into the outdoors. (However, I'm sure they'll find their way back in.) I didn't even count each and every thing . . . such as the bag of rocks that I counted as "1".

Total so far today: 602/2008

Goal for the rest of January 40/100

I feel bad counting the clothes for my January goal so I am not going to. I am only counting 5 of the clothing items I took from closets and the rest were in a bag and a box given to me recently, so I will count them only in my big total.

57 - clothing
3 - bake pans
1 - pkg coffee filters
14 - dog toy bin stuff
1 - tupperware
3 - saved newspapers

- lamp and camera, bag & components
- 2 returns today
- another bag (counting as 3) of stuff returned yesterday

I'm calling it 9. I have to get moving, I feel like I'm just skimming the surface and not getting enough accomplished lately.

I started on the 2008 for 2008 but since I'm not so hot on counting items as I get rid of them I'm going to go monthly.

So far

freecycle
8 T shirts
5 baking trays and 1 pan
1 bouncy castle listed on freecycle (gone)

charity
13 items of clothing
1 marble run
1 photo frame

bin/recycling
30 old pairs of socks
1 broken coathanger
1 very old pillow
1 old cracked mug

and 1 bag clothing (20+ items) sorted for rags. (not sure if that counts as I'm still keeping them but we do use the rags so...)

We did DH's upper desk cabinets last night.

- 8 books
- 5 items for donation
- 23 trash items (including pamphlets for recycle)
- 12 dead pens!

Also for donation:
- 3 new photo pens

I have some stuff listed on Freecycle, hopefully that will go this week too...

We're planning another desk cabinet clean out for later today, then the cabinet goes out too!!

Today I went through the monster stack of artwork on the top of my fridge. Of course both girls were at school. I'd say I cut it down by 2/3 keeping only special or especially interesting pieces. I didn't count each piece of paper, but it was probably around 100. Do I count that as 100 or consider it just 1 for the paper grocery sack it filled?

Aside from the artwork, my count stands at 143/300 for January.

I'm at 274/500. DD's birthday was this week so that set us back a bit. Both my parents were in town and I swear the kid got 25 presents. Ugh. I did get rid of one thing of hers for each new item that came in, but it still seems like too much stuff!

I have a big laundry basket of tiny plastic balls outside that are getting nasty from the weather. I'm going to try and pitch those tonight.

LOL anathasam, I think it's great you're still going after you met you goal. That's why I have to set mine high, because otherwise I quit as soon as I reach it!

I am here!

Today I did a lot of decluttering in our basement, which is damp and mostly houses our tools and crap from old projects the previous owners left. I got three huge boxes of said crap out to freeze and wait for trash day. I also went through ALL our tools, which were previously DH's domain but which I am now claiming as mine also. I am reminded of Cindy's Porch and her phrase, "Shop at home first!" Yeesh, it's a good thing I did, before heading to the hardware store looking for things to use in my next big project, which is painting every room in the house. I found everything I needed except primer and paint. Also some other interesting things that I'll be able to make good use of later on.

So that was my big accomplishment today.

Last week I started sorting our photos, really getting down to the FOR REAL sorting (LOL) where I put all my photos out on a big table and sort by date and ruthlessly toss the ones I'm not keeping. I plan to cull through a few more times before moving on to the next phase, which will be...sorting them one year at a time, writing on the backs, and putting them in album pages chronologically. Maybe I will get it done in Jan-Feb. Eventually I also need to look at what I have in digital photos from when I got my digital camera (2 years ago, maybe?) and print the ones I want to keep and put them in albums, but that's less critical than dealing with the bins I've had in storage all these years. Boggles my mind.

Uh, what else? Keep maintaining/decluttering our main living space, bit by bit, and collecting things to go out for donation. Work on the basement space more, before the spring thaw floods our basement and brings the moldy smell (ick). Sort my sewing stuff and work on vaporizing my two tubs of mending that have accumulated over the past ten years. (!) That's enough for this month! Wish me luck!

Spring will bring warmer temperatures, just right for working in the garage and shed. Time for that in a few months. But I am excited thinking about it, so that is good!

I had to dig to find this thread today!!

Thrift store donation:
-- vcr w/remote
-- bag of baby clothes
-- 6 vintage wineglasses
-- man's jacket
-- camera bag
-- baby monitors
-- bag of misc household stuff (calling this 12)
-- wall hooks (2)

Much more that I absolutely cannot remember now. sigh. I'm going to count the entire donation today as 30 items.

I also gathered some stuff for the animal shelter, but I won't count that until it's gone.

I'm at 407/500.

Oh wait! Nope, I'm way higher than that. I gave away 20 diapers, 2 covers, and 2 dresses that matched with the diapers.
So 431/500 I switched the bedrooms around last weekend (turning the bigger into playroom/office and smaller into sleeping quarters) and I need to switch the closets tomorrow, so I should meet my goal decluttering then.

I did 53 today.

8 pairs of overalls in the give away pile (DD doesn't wear overalls, why do I have them for her??)
4 mismatched shoes that have been missing their mates since I moved from Kansas in May.
Baby socks that are way too small for my everg rowing baby.
And a few other things.
So,
460/500.

i feel like i've made a lot of progress in that area even though most of it has just gone to the storage...at least my daily livig space is clean and clear, yk

we have a lot of stuff we're holding onto for the day we get our own place, stuff that doesn't fit here in my mom's place

also filled a box of stuff today to take there

i actually convinced kurt to get rid of a couple of pairs of pants
