I'm in! We need to simplify, baby.

Ds and I just took two trash bags of stuff to our local thrift store. A bag of women's clothes and a bag of toys. I'll call that 40, 20 each.

Plus, I have thrown out a ton of paper in the past few days. So, another 20. That means I am at

60/2008

I don't know if I will hit 2008, but it will be interesting to see just how close I get (in a way, I would prefer to NOT get close, since that would mean I didn't have a bunch of extra stuff, right? )

I think I was at 61 in 2008.

I recently brought 2 bins, 3 phone books, and a stack of papers to be recycled. 1 bag of donations, 1 pillow, and 2 packages have been mailed/dropped off. 3 big boxes have been trashed. I also gave away 4 of DS's too small shirts today.

SIL came by today and got her baby items. I threw in some more baby stuff (3-6 month summer stuff NWT I recieved as gifts that won't be the right season...Aldria is in 3-6 months NOW ), a bassinet (moses basket), a pack of diapers and a pack of wipes.

Gave 7 more clothes and a coat to BIL

20 more books to goodwill (WHY do I have so many freaking books??) 10 movies/DVD's, 5 CD's, 4 games, 3 magazines...other various trash.

And 50 hangers to my mom. LOL

Today was an 'off' day because Aldria was REALLY clingy today...didn't get NEAR wha I wanted to get done, done.

Tomorrow I will do: The bathroom (especially under the sink) and the kitchen (Goodwill some knives, other dishes that we don't need, possibly goodwill some small appliances after washing them...DH has a sandwich maker that he NEVER uses...thats gone...we have a waffle maker that never gets used, a small food chopper we don't need) The only stuff I'm keeping is our toaster oven, toaster, and food processor for making baby food in a few months.

believe I'm up to 775/2008 once I throw out the appliances...

This weekend I'm tackling my closet. I have probably over 50 magazines taking up valuable space that I need to get rid of.

LOL, I think I need to lower my declutter #...I bought a pair of winter boots and mittens for James (in my defense he had neither)

Decisions to make: I have 2 purses...1 is my 'Mom' purse it doubles as my diaper bag for short trips...it's HUGE, it fits all my stuff and the kids purse. This purse I must keep. Then I have my 'cute' purse. This purse I use on the VERY rare occasion I would manage to go someplace that required a purse (the mall, etc) without the kids...since Aldria is so little this won't happen for a year+ So do I pitch this purse?? The problem is I really like this purse. It's just a cheapo one from Target, but it's really cute, it is JUST how I like it, and I'm really picky about my purses. but I don't *need* it, kwim?? So do I keep it or pitch it?

I did my dd's room. I got a full trash bag! I can't believe how much trash I've collected over the past few days, that we've just been living in.

I didn't count, because that's not working for me. I took pictures of my progress. Looking at them makes me feel more productive than counting. Dh thinks I am insane!

So far, I've cleaned out my spice cabinet, reorganized the rest of the kitchen cabinets, pared down and organized my hall closet, cleaned up my laundry room, relocated the arts and crafts to a more usable space, cleaned the entire third floor (storage eves, toy closet and main space - which acts as a playroom), the bathroom vanity, my dd's room, and cleared the hallway and both stairways of things "on their way" to where they belong. I've made more progress in the last few days than I have in 8 years, I think.

Next on my agenda is my bedroom...which is going to be the hardest/most time consuming. Its where I have more than twenty 30gal storage bins with a decade worth of clothes for 7 people - except they've been dumped out and picked through, and thrown around. : I am planning on gettting that done this weekend - starting tonight when dh gets home from work, and finishing tomorrow.

Then, I need to do my porch. It's where we keep our shoes, and other than that nothing actually belongs there. But its the first place people dump stuff so its a huge mess - my cousin's hunting gear (no guns or bows, just clothes and boots. ), things that are on the way out to the donation place, or are supposed to be in the car, or given back to someone who left their things here, etc. I'm putting it off because it is super cold out there.

The only thing left after that is the basement. And I need dh's help with that, we've agreed to make it a weekend project to do together, when it warms up in the spring. I don't know if I'll make it that long, though! I'm on such a decluttering kick!

I'd probably keep it. I'm picky about purses, too - rather use the diaper bag than have one that isn't "perfect". It doesn't take up much room to hang it on a hanger in the closet, under a coat or something and you know you'll use it. Not like a wardrobe of clothes in size 4, after having a couple kids...

Well I'm at 499. I kinda cheat at counting. LIke a box of books is 60. I counted 1 box at came up with 73, so I figured 60 made it fair that I didn't count. Or I freecycled a ton of candles- I rounded that to 10. Some things count by themselves - which is why I'm not at 500 yet.

this is fun!

So what counts as an item? Anything that isn't garbage? How about broken toys etc?

I think I may try to do this. I am living in a state of chaotic clutter and I can't handle it anymore! Hopefully the late start won't hold me back

You only have TWO purses! Keep it! We all deserve cute things we only use once in a while... like Christmas decorations or a special necklace.

(3) things sold on eBay and shipped!
(5) pile of coupons and papers to recycle, newspapers & magazines sitting around
(22) product packages, Pieces of felt, toy, cards, old sticker sheets, certificate not needed
(2) old class ring of ex husband, old wedding band of ex's father
(8) brother's class ring, old brooch, earrings, husbands old watch.. Sssshhhhhh!!!
(8) cheap class pin, ring, stray battery, stray earrings, and lighthouse pin and charm
(20) kids' clothes

Total so far today: 488/2008

I don't expect anything else to go out the door today as the baby really doesn't sleep without me and the one sling I have isn't working for us.

Broken toys count! Anything like a dried marker and a broken crayon I count because it's clutter. I don't count papers unless it's a stack. I did count a couple of bills I paid because they were old bills in collections that I paid off so they will no longer clutter my house or my mail box.

I count anything I throw away, give away, sell or set in the yard sale pile for spring.

Now that I finally decluttered that cursed closet I moved on to another storage room in the basement. I really can not believe how much stuff/papers/broken toys/etc. we have managed to accumulate over the years.

My new total:

180/2008

and what kills me is that I have barely made a dent in the storage area plus there are tons of computer parts in there that dh will have to tell me if they are garbage or not. Goodness only knows when I will be able to grab him for that task.

oh, wait, my sister picked up her box of ds's outgrown clothes. Which brings me to:

200/2008.

Are we allowed to count all the science experiments growing in the fridge in our decluttering totals?

I know! We have WAY too much crap. It's unreal the amount of JUNK we've managed to fit into our space. No wonder I'm so stressed and annoyed and overwhelmed. It's awesome to get some (most) of it GONE.

One thing I am having a HUGE issue with is James' books. I donated like 2 boxes full...but I want to keep the rest. We still have way too many, but I love having books for him. He loves to read, he'll sit there and 'read' books for hours (he's only 3 he can't read)...and it gives me a nice variety because he wants me to 'read it again' 10 times a night before bed so it keeps me from going insane reading the same 15 books over and over and over. LOL

Working on that I suppose...

I tossed 7 prs of dd's outgrown underwear and DH sold 1 crib and 1 crib mattress on craigslist. the crib has been with us for 7 years, and has been used for a total of 3 months... what a relief to get that out of the house!

DH is installing flooring in the girls room while we are away, and I asked him to put ALL the toys, dress up, etc, in bags in the garage. Once we get back, I plan on going through and hopefully getting rid of the majority of the stuff they have. Books are a problem though. I have such a hard time parting with books although they have so many the bookshelf is almost too overwhelming for them to find something to read...
